Swoon Thursday (13) Dragon Mated

Our lips crashed against each other, soft yet firm, the kiss deep and hypnotic. His tongue swept across mine before sliding deliciously into my mouth. I was drowning in sensations, the taste, the feel, the scent, the warmth. Being wrapped in Braxton's big body was like being home. It was everything.

Waiting on Wednesday (13) The Wedding Pack

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katee Robert
continues her smoking-hot series about the O'Malleys—wealthy, powerful, and full of scandalous family secrets.

Carrigan O'Malley has always known her arranged marriage would be more about power and prestige than passion. But after one taste of the hard-bodied, whiskey-voiced James Halloran, she's ruined for anyone else. Too bad James and his family are enemy number 1.

Hallorans vs. O'Malleys—that's how it's always been. James should be thinking more about how to expand his family's empire instead of how silky Carrigan's skin is against his and how he can next get her into his bed. Those are dangerous thoughts. But not nearly as dangerous as he'll be if he can't get what he wants: Carrigan by his side for the rest of their lives.

Why am I waiting?

We were introduced to these to in the first book The Marriage Contract and wooziers the chemistry is off the chain. I have to know how they get together.

Such sweet words, too bad the wrong guy is uttering them to her. So I am biased- just wish she was with Zavien.

Exclusive Excerpt: Playing the Witch's Game

Exclusive Excerpt:

She threw his bathing suit at him. “No looking.” She whirled away from him.

“Oh, I’ll be looking. Lots,” he murmured.

She tried to make sense of the two pieces of cloth that must be a swimsuit. She peeled off her pants and underwear and shimmied into the bottoms.

“Is that a Celtic tattoo on your ass?” he asked.
Her head whipped around to find him staring at her butt. He leaned closer to her and squinted. “Or is it a tribal tat?”
“Shut up.”

She yanked up the bottoms to cover her drunk sorority dare ink, not that the bikini covered much. Thank God she’d waxed this week.

Seconds later a woman stuck her head in. “You two ready? We’ve been waiting, like, forever.”

Jen yanked down the bathing suit bandanna top. Nikolai grabbed her hand.
She adjusted and squirmed to get the suit right as he pulled her outside, barely having time to get her chest properly aligned before they were out the door. After one look at his suit she completely forgot they were no longer in the changing room. She blurted out, “They gave you board shorts that go almost to your knees and I get this?” She plucked at the skimpy two-piece. “An eye patch and a bandanna?”

“Obviously the nice lady underestimated your assets.” He leered at her C’s that were one breath away from a complete spill out of the A-sized bandanna top. “I guess we’re headed somewhere tropical.” He flashed an annoying smile. “I would be glued to the TV every day if you wore that. Hell, I’ll probably have a hard time walking the entire time we’re doing this show if you’re wearing that thing. You’re like Tropical Bar—”

She pointed a finger at him. “Don’t you dare say it. If you utter it, I’m so far beyond kneeing. Now I’ll fist your nuts in a wad so tight that you’ll squeal like a choirboy for the rest of your life.” She plucked at the top again. “If I bend down I’ll flash the entire world.”

He said hoarsely, “I’ll be right there along with the rest of America holding my breath to see it.”

Playing the Witches Game Synopsis: Even a good witch knows how to play dirty.... Pleiades witch Jennifer Marcos is certain that the host of Extreme Survivor is her soulmate. All she has to do is find a fake boyfriend, get on the show, and voila! She'll have her destiny. To make matters worse, the electric attraction between Jen and Nikolai is hotter than ever. But the only way Nikolai can protect Jen is by hiding the identity of her true Destined...him.

Bad Things Always Come In Threes…

As a thief, I'm good at three things: hiding in the shadows, getting in and out unseen, and uncovering secrets. I put these skills to work for the Sinclair Family, one of the magical mobs that run the tourist town of Cloudburst Falls.

Everyone knows Victor Draconi wants to take over all the other Families--and kill every last Sinclair. What they don't know is that I'm on to him, and no way will I let the man who murdered my mom get away with hurting all the other people I care about. Especially when I've got places to break into, stuff to steal, and Devon Sinclair fighting right by my side…

My Opinion

Victor Darconi finally makes his move on the families. It is a good thing that Claudia (head of the Sinclair family) has had Lila steal the majority of his black blades over the course of the last few weeks. After replacing them with duds Lila then rehid them. When Victor does attach the other families Dah sits out earning her daddy’s err. Chaos ensues and Claudia is taken, Lila has orders get Devon, Felix and Deah to safety. From there they plan to rescue all who were taken as prisoners.

Devon is one of those swoon worthy guys who understands his girl. Yes, he is capable of protecting himself and those that are around. Yet he knows that her job is to protect him and he lets her do her job. He defers to her in areas in which he knows he is the expert. Treats her like an equal. Lila is as strong minded and willed as ever. She is steadfast and devoted to the family. She will save Claudia, she will stop Victor.

Black Blade of Magic reminded me why I love YA paranormal. The magic, the relationships, and the threats are real to the characters. This one wrapped up the series rather nicely.

Review: Storm Born

Author Richelle Mead
Format e-book
Print Length 361 pages

Published August 1, 2008

Just typical. No love life to speak of for months, then all at once, every horny creature in the Otherworld wants to get in your pants...

Eugenie Markham is a powerful shaman who does a brisk trade banishing spirits and fey who cross into the mortal world. Mercenary, yes, but a girl's got to eat. Her most recent case, however, is enough to ruin her appetite. Hired to find a teenager who has been taken to the Otherworld, Eugenie comes face to face with a startling prophecy—one that uncovers dark secrets about her past and claims that Eugenie's first-born will threaten the future of the world as she knows it.

Now Eugenie is a hot target for every ambitious demon and Otherworldy ne'er-do-well, and the ones who don't want to knock her up want her dead. Eugenie handles a Glock as smoothly as she wields a wand, but she needs some formidable allies for a job like this. She finds them in Dorian, a seductive fairy king with a taste for bondage, and Kiyo, a gorgeous shape-shifter who redefines animal attraction. But with enemies growing bolder and time running out, Eugenie realizes that the greatest danger is yet to come, and it lies in the dark powers that are stirring to life within her...

My Opinion

When there’s something strange and unexplained going on call Odile Dark Swan. She just so happens to be a shaman, with a great track record. And so Storm Born begins, with Odile/Eugenie tracking down a missing child. She ends up having to go to the Otherworld, the land of fairies.

There she finds many that want to kill her and some that want to mate with her due to a prophecy. Her bio-daddy was evil, having enslaved her momma to get her with child (Eugenie). Her step-daddy rescues her momma and helps to raise Eugenie as his own. So Eugenie knows nothing about her “legacy”. Or the prophecy that involves her child and the end of the human world as we know it. Once she discovers that her daddy was evil she also learns that Aeson (another evil fae king) has the girl, Jasmine, that she is looking for.

Along the way two guys come into the picture- Kiyo (shapeshifter) and Dorian (fae king). Both have intentions towards her, yet neither are pure. The question is who will she pick. There are going to be team Kiyo and team Dorian folks. I am team Tim. Eugenie’s roomie isn’t fake, no hidden agenda. Plus, even though he is a player, he is honest about it.

Eugenie is a strong heroine, yet there is something about her that rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe it was her judgement of the fae. Or is could be her wishy-washy ways with the two guys. Or maybe it was just her personality, it really grated on my nerves.

Storm Born is an unique start to a series. Not too sure where it is going, but for now I want to find out.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

On Solange’s sixteenth birthday, she is going to wake up dead. As if that’s not bad enough, she also has to outwit her seven overprotective older brothers, avoid the politics involved with being the only daughter born to an ancient vampire dynasty, and elude Kieran Black—agent of an anti-vampire league who is searching for his father’s killer and is intent on staking Solange and her entire family.

Luckily she has her own secret weapon—her human best friend Lucy—who is willing to defend Solange’s right to a normal life, whether she’s being smothered by her well-intentioned brothers or abducted by a power-hungry queen. Two unlikely alliances are formed in a race to save Solange’s eternal life—Lucy and Solange’s brother Nicholas, and Solange and Kieran Black—in a dual romance that is guaranteed to jump start any romance-lover’s heart.

Even fans of the genre who’ve seen it all will find a fresh read with kick-butt characters and family dynamics that ring true for all brothers and sisters—vampire or otherwise.

Review: Lady Midnight

Author Cassandra Clare
Format e-book
Print Length 720 pages
Publisher Margaret K. McElderry Books
Published March 8, 2016

The Shadowhunters of Los Angeles star in the first novel in Cassandra Clare’s newest series, The Dark Artifices, a sequel to the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series. Lady Midnight is a Shadowhunters novel.

It’s been five years since the events of City of Heavenly Fire that brought the Shadowhunters to the brink of oblivion. Emma Carstairs is no longer a child in mourning, but a young woman bent on discovering what killed her parents and avenging her losses.

Together with her parabatai Julian Blackthorn, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches across Los Angeles, from the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica. If only her heart didn’t lead her in treacherous directions…

Making things even more complicated, Julian’s brother Mark—who was captured by the faeries five years ago—has been returned as a bargaining chip. The faeries are desperate to find out who is murdering their kind—and they need the Shadowhunters’ help to do it. But time works differently in faerie, so Mark has barely aged and doesn’t recognize his family. Can he ever truly return to them? Will the faeries really allow it?

Glitz, glamours, and Shadowhunters abound in this heartrending opening to Cassandra Clare’s Dark Artifices series.

My Opinion

Lady Midnight is the perfect start to a spin-off of the Mortal Instruments. Readers were introduced to Emma Carstairs in the original series after the LA institute was attacked. Emma now has a parabatai- her childhood besties Julian Blackthorn. The Blackthorn family has been through enoguht with their parents being killed and then losing both older siblings within a week of each other- one to the Great Hunt, the other as an exile Shadowhunter, now an Ironsister.

The fairies turn to the LA Institute for help. Find out who is murdering our kind and get your brother Mark back. Emma and Julian have no choice but to investigate even if it brings the Clave down on them. To be back in the Shadowhunter world felt like coming home after a long absences.

Emma is an excellent main character who isn’t afraid to get her feet wet. She trains hard, plays a little, then trains some more. Julian is so serious all the time you almost want to tickle him until he laughs. They are parabatai makes sense yet is heartbreaking at the same time. The sacrifices they are willing to make to get Mark back shows how they value family above all else.

The romance is bittersweet. I so wish the couple could have a Happily Ever After, yet I just don’t see that happening right now. The bond between them and then tension is off the charts. They complete each other.

Lady Midnight starts The Dark Artifacts series off with a bang! The side stories help keep the book at a fast pace. We got introduced to new characters and caught up with old. The ending will leaving you pacing the floor begging for more.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Waiting on Wednesday (12) Origins

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

From Ilona Andrews—#1 New York Times bestselling author of
Magic Shifts and the Kate Daniels novels—comes a stark, seductive tale of a world torn asunder by supernatural gifts and irresistible passions...

Karina Tucker is driving a van of children home from a field trip when an unplanned detour to a seemingly ordinary rest stop changes her life. There, she witnesses a world beyond humanity’s sight, of frightful powers and chaos, where she is in death’s grip... before an irresistibly dangerous male saves her—only to take her captive.

For she is a rare commodity in the shadowy realm she’s entered.

Karina soon finds herself caught in a violent civil war where those with inhuman powers strive to destroy each other without mercy. And it becomes all too clear that she must make a choice: submit and become a pawn, or take hold of her own destiny and fight for survival against impossible odds.

Alphas: Origins originally appeared in Angels of Darkness.

Why am I waiting?

I am a fan of Ilona Andrews and this is the start of a new series for her. I want to give it a try. It is listed as urban fantasy which I am falling more in love with by the second. So here is hoping that I like it.

Review: Magic Nights

Author Ella Summers
Format e-book
Print Length 264 pages
Publisher self
Published Jan. 6, 2016

After surviving the trials of the Magic Games, mercenary mage Sera Dering is back home in San Francisco. She wants nothing more than to relax and finally have a long-overdue date with dragon shifter Kai.

Unfortunately, the universe has other plans.

When a young boy is kidnapped by vampires, Sera’s friend Naomi enlists her help to save him. And sometime between fighting monsters, thwarting pirates, and convincing a grumpy ghost to help them, Sera is determined to finish her date.

Magic Nights is the third book in the Dragon Born Serafina urban fantasy series.

This Extended Edition novel is over 2.5x longer than the original.

For more Dragon Born fantasy, check out the adventures of Sera's sister Alex in the Dragon Born Alexandria series! The Dragon Born Alexandria and Dragon Born Serafina sister series can be read together or independently.

My Opinion

A boy is kidnapped, so Naomi and Sera go looking for him. Their investigation takes them back to Naomi’s hometown, Fairy Island. An island actually, one that acts as a sanctuary. Naomi’s momma is still in pain from losing her mate, vowing to live in peace. When Naomi’s little sisters, Ivy and Ruby, go missing some violence may be what the doctor ordered. Sera and Naomi are more than happy to dish it out.

Sera is going through a lot emotionally now. She has made it through the test, yet it took a lot out of her. She is stressed about Kai’s reaction when he finds out what she is, if he finds out. That plus her first true date with Kai keeps getting interrupted. What is a gal to do?

Kai knows something is up with Sera- he may even know what it is. Yet, he is patient. For a wizard who can shift into a dragon patient is not his forte. I pretty much adore everything about him. How protective he is of Sera, accepting he is of the unknown, alpha he is in the face of danger. Yeah, he can tickle my toes.

Strangely enough, I felt like this book was more about Naomi and her family than I did about Sera and Kai. Yeah, they are the main characters yet- Naomi kept shining throughout the story. She is tough, she is gentle, she fierce, she is sweet. Most of all she is loyal friend, who loves Sera and wants to see her happy.

I enjoyed Magic Nights, although I felt that the focus was not so much on the main characters. As the series goes on the writing gets better, the characters grow. Best of all, the story is entertaining.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

Review: Say You're Mine

Author Diane Alberts
Format e-book
Print Length 181 pages
Publisher Entangled: Brazen
Published Dec. 7th 2015

A sexy category romance from Entangled's Brazen imprint...

She's a challenge he can't afford to lose...

Navy SEAL Steven Thomas has only ever been able to count on three things: waking up in the morning, going to sleep sometime during the night, and Lauren Brixton. She's been his best friend since grade school, and what they have is the only relationship he's managed not to ruin.

Until one drunken night puts that all in jeopardy.

Lauren's watched Steven flit from one-night stand to one-night stand, seemingly not interested in something more. So when the long-ignored attraction between the two of them blows up in their faces, she does the only thing she can-she pretends she doesn't want him. But all's fair in love and war, and Steven's not about to lose the only person in his life who matters...

My Opinion

Say You’re Mine is one of those stories where you want to love the main character and her hero but half the time you end up yelling at them. Or at least I did.

Steven is an ex-Navy Seal coming to terms with what he saw and did overseas. There was a particularly he has a lot of survival remorse. There was this one battle that weighs on his mind more than others and has made him despise lying of any sort. He counts leaving stuff out as lying, y’all. Most of the time I wanted to hug him, he needs more hugs in life.

Lauren is ready to provide those hugs, and not just one a friendly terms. For 20 years, Steven is who any guy that seemed remotely interested in her had to measure up to. She has found them all lacking. She gets scared one night, and calls Steven over. Before he shows up, she realized what scared her- but she keeps it from Steven hoping to get him to stop drinking and sulking. All of their friends and Lauren are worried about him.

The chemistry between these two are off the charts. Maybe it is because they are besties but dang do they make one HOT couple. They also are a couple that could cause a heat wave when they are together. The issue that arises is more a lack of communication problem- one that many would see as a huh? I grew up in a military town, to a military family so I get it. I don’t think that Steven overreacted too much. A little bit yeah, but his rational for it is solid. I can’t fault him for it. Lauren’s reaction to his reaction I also understand and could agree with especially after what she sees.

Sometimes I wanted to shake Steven, other times I wanted to cheer him on. I liked that he stood his ground even over something that many would trivialize. I wanted to hold Lauren’s hand and tell her it would be okay. I also wanted to say gal if you are this worked up over his supposed reaction, then be prepared because it will probably be ten times worse.

I adore friends to lover stories. Say You’re Mine has just the right level of hotness, sarcasm, and love to make you sigh when you are finished. Honey, y’all just need to read this one.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Sixteen-year-old Jules Verity knows exactly what's in store at her new job at castle-turned-dinner-theater Tudor Times. Some extra cash, wearing a fancy-pants dress, and plenty of time to secretly drool over the ever-so-tasty--and completely unavailable--Grayson Chandler. Except that it's not quite
what she imagined.

For one, the costume Jules has to wear is awful. Then there's the dead body she finds that just kind of...well, disappears. Oh, and there's the small issue of Jules and her episodes of what her best friend calls "Psychic Tourette's Syndrome"--spontaneous and uncontrollable outbursts of seemingly absurd prophecies.

The only bright side? This whole dead body thing seems to have gotten Grayson's attention. Except that the more Jules investigates, the more she discovers that Grayson's interest might not be as courtly as she thought. In fact, it's starting to look suspicious...

Elena, along with four other teens gets offered a chance of a lifetime: go 10 years into the future, bring back some tech, get set for life. Well, when an offer sounds too good to be true it probably is. They ended up 30 years into the future. There they find that some of them aren’t going to make it. Can they change their destiny or is it set in stone?

Elena is an interesting main character. She comes from a dysfunctional home environment- daddy kills momma and is in jail. She has an eidetic memory, which makes forgetting things impossible. She always defends the underdog. She is extremely logical when faced with the illogical situation they are in. She has to figure out who their killer is before they strike. Instead of balling up in the fetal position and crying, she goes on the offense- which is a heck of a thing to see.

Adam is the cute love interest of the story. The only one to survive, one can’t help but wonder if he is evil. Yet, there is something so idealistic about him that you hope he didn’t do it. I even started to cheer him on. The chemistry between these two is a slow burn. It starts off with Adam attracted to Elena, and her pushing him away. There is something endearing about him, and in his steadfast belief that they can change the future.

Future Shock is a book that will entertain you. I didn’t realize who the killer was until the end and those are the best kind of mysteries. There is a big part of that is hoping for some of the tech that is mentioned in the future to become our reality.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

My lips press against his and he responds immediately, wrapping his arms around my waist. Our kiss
is desperate, intense, like w now this might be our only chance. He holds me close and his body s warm against mine. igniting something inside me. As water pours down on us, together we're a bonfire in the middle of a storm, And as I cling to Adam, suddenly, more than ever, I want to live.

Waiting on Wednesday (11) Lady Renegades

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

From the New York Times bestselling author of Hex Hall comes the sparkling finale in the beloved Rebel Belle series.

Just as Harper Price starts coming to terms with her role as David Stark's battle-ready Paladin, protector, and girlfriend—her world goes crazy all over again.

Overwhelmed by his Oracle powers, David flees Pine Grove and starts turning teenaged girls into Paladins—and these young ladies seem to think that Harper is the enemy David needs protecting from. Ordinarily, Harper would be able to fight off any Paladin who comes her way, but her powers have been dwindling since David left town, which means her life is on the line yet again.

Now, it’s a desperate race for Harper to find and rescue David before she backslides from superhero to your garden-variety type-A belle.

New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins brings the fun once again in the finale of this pitch-perfect romantic paranormal comedy series.

Why am I waiting?

I loved the first book in this series, hated the second. I am hoping that this one balances out what I loved and hated about the first two books. Plus I need to see if Harper and David end up together.

LIVE WITHOUT REGRET: L.O.V.E. by K. L. Grayson How can those four letters cause so much pain? But then Connor Jackson came into my life.

OFF LIMITS by Mari Carr According to the bro code, enacted by Evan Sparks and Logan Grady years ago, sisters are out. However, Lacy Sparks isn’t about to let a silly boyhood pact stand between her and the man she’s wanted for nearly twenty years. She’s waited long enough. Logan thinks she’s too sweet to give him what he needs. He’s about to learn as far as Lacy’s concerned, in bed or out, nothing is off-limits.

Carrie Anne Ryan - author picCarrie Ann Ryan: New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan never thought she’d be a writer. Not really. No, she loved math and science and even went on to graduate school in chemistry. Yes, she read as a kid and devoured teen fiction and Harry Potter, but it wasn’t until someone handed her a romance book in her late teens that she realized that there was something out there just for her. When another author suggested she use the voices in her head for good and not evil, The Redwood Pack and all her other stories were born. Carrie Ann is a bestselling author of over twenty novels and novellas and has so much more on her mind (and on her spreadsheets *grins*) that she isn’t planning on giving up her dream anytime soon. Visit Carrie Ann’s website and follow her on Facebook and Twitter.

Heather Graham - author picHeather Graham: New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Heather Graham has always been an avid reader, from classics to sci-fi, mystery, horror, thriller, romance, and all kinds of non-fiction. She’s fairly certain that her mom’s deliciously crazy family–arriving in the US a bit before her birth from Ireland–gave her the love of storytelling. She started out in theater and commercials, but once her children began to arrive, she stayed home and gave writing a try. She’s incredibly grateful to be doing what she’s doing for a living. Heather belongs to MWA, RWA, Sisters in Crime, HWA, and ITW, and has the recipient of the RWA Lifetime Achievement Award, a Silver Bullet for charitable works, and this year, she will receive the Thriller Master title from ITW. She has over 200 novels in print, and has been published in 22 languages. Visit Heather Graham’s website and follow her onFacebook and Twitter.

Kristen Proby - author picKristen Proby: New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author Kristen Proby is the author of the bestselling With Me In Seattle and Love Under the Big Sky series. She has a passion for a good love story and strong, humorous characters with a strong sense of loyalty and family. Her men are the alpha type; fiercely protective and a bit bossy, and her ladies are fun, strong, and not afraid to stand up for themselves. Kristen lives in Montana, where she enjoys coffee, chocolate and sunshine. And naps. Visit Kristen Proby’s website and follow her on Facebook and Twitter.

Cherise Sinclair - author picCherise Sinclair: Having to wear glasses in elementary school can scar a person for life. Dubbed a nerd at an early age, Cherise Sinclair has been trying to live up to the stereotype ever since. And what better way than being an author? Known for writing deeply emotional stories, the USA Today Bestselling Author has penned sixteen erotic romance novels, most with a BDSM theme. (Please do not mention the phrase mommy porn in her presence.) Her awards range from a National Leather Award to a Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice nomination to a GoodReads BDSM group award for best author of the year. Cherise lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband. Their two fledglings have left the nest recently to try their wings and hopefully will fly high and strong. The “ascendant erotica queen” (Rolling Stone Magazine) now spends her days writing with occasional supervision from a sadistic calico cat. Visit Cherise Sinclair’s website and follow her on Facebook and Twitter.

KL Grayson - author picK.L. Grayson: K.L. Grayson resides in a small town outside of St. Louis, MO. She is entertained daily by her extraordinary husband, who will forever inspire every good quality she writes in a man. Her entire life rests in the palms of six dirty little hands, and when the day is over and those pint-sized cherubs have been washed and tucked into bed, you can find her typing away furiously on her computer. She has a love for alpha-males, brownies, reading, tattoos, sunglasses, and happy endings…and not particularly in that order.   Find K.L. Grayson on her website and follow her on Facebook and Twitter.

Mari Carr - auhor picMari Carr: Writing a book was number one on Mari Carr’s bucket list and on her thirty-fourth birthday, she set out to see that goal achieved. Too many years later, her computer is jammed full of stories — novels, novellas, short stories and dead-ends and she has nearly eighty published works. Virginia native and high school librarian by day, Mari Carr is a New York Times andUSA TODAY bestseller of contemporary erotic romance novels.
