Review: The Monster Within

Author Kelly Hashway
Format e-ARC
Print Length 220 pages
Publisher Spencer Hill Press
Published June 17, 2014

The moment seventeen-year-old Samantha Thompson crawls out of her grave, her second chance at life begins. She died of cancer with her long-time boyfriend, Ethan, by her side--a completely unfair shot at life.

But Ethan found a way to bring her back, like he promised he would. Only Sam came back wrong.

She's now a monster that drains others' lives to survive. And after she kills, she’s tortured by visions—glimpses into her victims would-have-been futures had she not killed them. Barely able to live with herself and trying to make things right, Sam ends up a pawn in a vicious game of payback within the local coven of witches.

But when the game reveals what Ethan had to do to save Sam, she must make a choice that will change all their lives forever.

My Opinion

Sam died of cancer with her boyfriend Ethan by her side, vowing to bring her back. Four days later he delivered on her promise with Sam crawling literally out of the grave. My first thought was vampire- but I was fooled. Gotta love a book that can fool you.

Sam comes back pretty much herself- except no cancer and oh yeah she has to do this minor little thing of draining other people of their life source. Ethan refuses to tell her what he did to bring her back- so she kinda refuses to tell him she is now a killer. So this seemly perfect relationship has some BIG SECRETS in it. To top things off Sam may or may not have a stalker on her hands.

Sam is a bit on the whiney side for someone who just literally got a second chance at life. At least she acknowledges the fact that she is whiney and seriously needs to man up. She does try- she plays house with Ethan and even gets a job at a dinner. With her big secret, well it is hard. Ethan for his part literally is the perfect boyfriend- maybe a little too perfect. What did he do to bring her back- and how come he doesn’t notice the difference in her?

Sam starts out hating Nora-who is a patron of the dinner that only orders coffee. Soon though she trust her more than she does Ethan. What the heck is up with that? I mean seriously, this is the boy who stuck by your side on your death bed and then brought you back to life. Why trust stranger gal over him?

A lot of the issues that Sam faced in The Monster Within could have been avoided by her simply talking to Ethan. Not trying to manipulate him but seriously, straight up talking to him.

Overall, an enjoyable read though at times the pacing slows.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

He has bit of ego.

“You're just worried they'll hire a male instructor and he'll be hotter than you."
Jace's eyebrows went up. "Hotter than me?"
"It could happen," Clary said, "You know, theoretically."
"Theoretically the planet could suddenly crack in half, leaving me on one side and you on the other, forever and tragically parted, but I'm not worried about that either. Some things," Jace said, with his customary crooked smile, "are just too unlikely to dwell upon.”

City of Fallen Angels

“Take off your shirt."
Jace raised his eyebrows.
"I'm not going to attack you," she said impatiently. "I can take the sight of your naked chest without swooning."
"Are you sure?" he asked, obediently sliding the shirt off his shoulders. "Because viewing my naked chest has caused many women to seriously injure themselves stampeding to get to me.”

City of Lost Souls

“I don't want to be a man," said Jace. "I want to be an angst-ridden teenager who can't confront his own inner demons and takes it out verbally on other people instead."
"Well," said Luke, "you're doing a fantastic job.”

City of Ashes

He cares about his friends.

“I just wanted to say that you don't always have to be all right. I asked you to be my parabatai because I needed you, but you're allowed to need me, too. This" - he indicated his own parabatai rune - "means you are the better, other half of me, and I care about you more than I care about myself. Remember that. I'm sorry I didn't realize how much you were hurting. I didn't see it then, but I see it now.”

City of Heavenly Fire

He knows just what to say to make a gal swoon.

I belong to you. You could do anything you wanted with me and I would let you. You could ask anything of me and I'd break myself trying to make you happy. My heart tells me this is the best and greatest feeling I have ever had. But my mind knows the difference between wanting what you can't have and wanting what you shouldn't want. And I shouldn't want you.

City of Glass

Say what you want about Jace but the truth is- he is the ultimate book boyfriend. Even when he is bad, he is good.

Feature and a Follow #2 Favorite Coffee Mug

Happy Friday everyone! Feature & Follow is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read, each of whom feature a chosen blog for the week. This is a great way to meet new bloggers, make friends, and get exposure for your own blog.

This weeks Question:

Post a photo of your favorite coffee mug (or mugs if you can’t choose just one).

I actually won some swag last year that came with two great coffee mugs, from author Kate SeRine. They are the perfect size and the perfect weight.  Weight in a mug is important to me as I need it to be heavy enough that my kids bumping it won't knock it off the counter.

Review: The Ghost and the Graveyard

Author Genevieve Jack
Format e-Book
Print Length 308 pages
Publisher Carpe Luna Publishing
Published September 8th 2012

**The Ghost and The Graveyard is a funny, exciting, and sexy read intended for adults. Due to sexual content, language, and violence this book is recommended for ages 18+**

Grateful Knight isn't looking for love when she moves into a rent-free house on the edge of a graveyard. At twenty-two, all she wants is to recover financially so she can move back to the city where she belongs.

But sparks fly when the gorgeous cemetery caretaker, Rick, introduces himself and mentions his suspicion that her new house might be haunted. Her attraction to him seems supernatural, and despite her resolve to not get involved, she literally can't keep her hands off him.

When things in Grateful's house start moving on their own, another man enters her life, Logan, a sexy ghost with a dark secret. He says Rick isn't what he seems, and indulging her passion for him could cost her soul.

One thing's for sure, magical forces are at work in the tiny town of Red Grove, and they're converging on Grateful. Life will never be the same once she's forced to choose between the ghost and the graveyard.

My Opinion

Before I start my review let me just say that this book is seriously recommended for ages 18+ so if you are younger than that skip the review and go about your normal day.

I got this book for two reasons- one it was free and two the cover is stunning. I adored it- the sword, her outfit, the graveyard. Due to the cover, I may have thought that Grateful was going to be a kick-butt heroine with no emotional issues. Boy, was I wrong.

Grateful is the heroine- let’s not go into my dislike for the heroine’s name. Just know that the author did indeed explain why her name was Grateful for which this reader was well grateful of.

Grateful is a weak-minded gal who for being in her 20s is still boy-crazy. Heck he doesn’t even have to be a real boy- any boy dead or alive will do. She got burned by her last boyfriend and so her daddy bailed her out with a place to live for free. After swearing off men for good she of course runs into Rick. The caretaker of the graveyard- Grateful is all over him like white on rice after just meeting him. So much for swearing off men. To make things even more complicated Grateful finds out that the free house she is living in is haunted.

She must accept her destiny, and sort out the good dead from the bad. Although Logan one of the ghost has started having feelings for her and is trying to convince her not to accept her destiny so that he can be with her. Like seriously be with her- to find out more you will have to read the book.

The Ghost and The Graveyard was really just not my cup of tea. The book is an easy read and fast-paced so if you have time and don’t mind a little bit of well the weird side of things give it a shot. I just found that at the end, I did not need to know anything else about Grateful.

My Rating 2 out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote "Vampires, zombies, ghouls- all types of unholy beasts."

Waiting on Wednesday (25) Four: A Divergent Story Collection

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Two years before Beatrice Prior made her choice, the sixteen-year-old son of Abnegation’s faction leader did the same. Tobias’s transfer to Dauntless is a chance to begin again. Here, he will not be called the name his parents gave him. Here, he will not let fear turn him into a cowering child.

Newly christened “Four,” he discovers during initiation that he will succeed in Dauntless. Initiation is only the beginning, though; Four must claim his place in the Dauntless hierarchy. His decisions will affect future initiates as well as uncover secrets that could threaten his own future—and the future of the entire faction system.

Two years later, Four is poised to take action, but the course is still unclear. The first new initiate who jumps into the net might change all that. With her, the way to righting their world might become clear. With her, it might become possible to be Tobias once again.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth comes a companion volume to the worldwide bestselling divergent series, told from the per-spective of the immensely popular character Tobias. The four pieces included here—The Transfer, The Initiate, The Son, and The Traitor—plus three additional exclusive scenes, give readers an electrifying glimpse into the history and heart of Tobias, and set the stage for the epic saga of the Divergent trilogy.

Why I am waiting?

I really want to be able to read all of the short stories in one seating. I want to see glimpses into Four’s head. I want to know what makes him tick and get a better understanding of who he is.

Review: The Girl Who Never Was

Author Skylar Dorset
Format e-ARC
Print Length 304 pages
Publisher Sourcebooks Fire
Published June 1, 2014

THE GIRL WHO NEVER WAS is the story of Selkie Stewart, who thinks she’s a totally normal teenager growing up in Boston. Sure, her father is in an insane asylum, her mother left her on his doorstep—literally—when she was a baby, and she’s being raised by two ancient aunts who spend their time hunting gnomes in their Beacon Hill townhouse. But other than that her life is totally normal! She’s got an adventurous best friend who’s always got her back and an unrequited crush on an older boy named Ben. Just like any other teenager, right?

When Selkie goes in search of the mother she’s never known, she gets more than she bargained for. It turns out that her mother is faerie royalty, which would make Selkie a faerie princess—except for the part where her father is an ogre, which makes her only half of anything. Even more confusing, there’s a prophecy that Selkie is going to destroy the tyrannical Seelie Court, which is why her mother actually wants to kill her. Selkie has been kept hidden all her life by her adoring aunts, with the help of a Salem wizard named Will. And Ben. Because the boy she thinks she’s in love with turns out to be a faerie whose enchantment has kept her alive, but also kept her in the dark about her own life.

Now, with enchantments dissolved and prophecies swinging into action, Selkie finds herself on a series of mad quests to save the people she’s always loved and a life she’s learning to love. But in a supernatural world of increasingly complex alliances and distressingly complicated deceptions, it’s so hard to know who to trust. Does her mother really wish to kill her? Would Will sacrifice her for the sake of the prophecy? And does Ben really love her or is it all an elaborate ruse? In order to survive, Selkie realizes that the key is learning—and accepting—who she really is.

My Opinion

You know those books- the one’s that you just know you are going to love. The book that you are half way through thinking what the heck? This is not what I signed up for? That is how I felt reading this book. Fae folks, love them- orges love them, enchantments and a hidden realm, heck yeah I am there. This book has all the ingredients of a great story but to be honest it was not mixed up very well.

Selkie the main character’s voice never clicked with me. She should be exciting- she is after all half fae and half orge. Instead she is more of a wow-is me-kinda gal who doesn’t listen to anyone. She has this protective barrier around her that broken when she mentions her birthday- who doesn’t mention their birthday like ever? There are high school girls who walk around with tiara’s and birthday pins on all day to advertise that it is their birthday. My four year old is already talking about her next birthday party. Which is a year away.

Moving on to Ben- a powerful traveler faerie who controls the enchantment around Selkie. This is the boy that she is in love with. She is in love with him regardless that she knows nothing about him. He is extremely powerful and yet has his own personal kryptonite.

The book also spends a lot of time talking about well time, which I didn’t understand the need for. I mean really mention it once the reader typically understands- twice if you think it is a hard concept but by the tenth time on how time is different for everyone the reader gets annoyed.

I wanted to love this book and cuddle with it. I wanted to shout my love of this book from the rooftops- but I cannot. I can say the book was an interesting idea that has a lot of potential.

My Rating 2 out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote "Prophecies are merely one way of reading the stars.”

In the words of the Faythe, Marc is....

He's my rock—strong and steady, and ready for anything. He knows what I need before I know it, and he pushes me to work harder, and look deeper, and be better. He challenges me, and infuriates me, and he lights me on fire, deep in my soul. And he has never, ever let me down. Sometimes it feels like he's the only thing keeping my heart beating. I love him so much that it feels like I'm dying a little bit every day that he won't smile at me. Or touch me.”

Marc can make a speech...

"You've had me from the beginning, Fathye. Loyalty, life, heart, and soul." His hand was warm in mine, but his gaze scorched me as he knelt without ever breaking eye contact. "I swear my loyalty and my live to the south-central Pride, and to my Alpha, Faythe Sanders."

He knows the right things to say.

Since the first time we kissed, there's never been anyone for me but you. Not in my bed, not in my life, and not in my heart. And there never will be.

Faythe annoyed the crap out of me- but Marc was the perfect book boyfriend.  Even when Faythe puts him through Hell for no reason besides being selfish Marc stands by her.

Review: Ungifted

Author Kelly Oram
Format e-book
Print Length
Publisher Bluefields
Published Feb. 28, 2014

Even though her father is running for President of the United States, Grace St. Claire is as normal a girl as they come. She’s clumsy, shy, and an outcast among her peers. She even manages to nearly die in a freak accident in front of the entire school. But when Grace survives a vampire attack she quickly learns that she is anything but ordinary.

There’s something about human Grace that has all the supernaturals around her going crazy. Her best friend’s brother suddenly wants to date her. Her worst enemy has sworn to protect her even against her wishes. Someone with very powerful magic wants her dead, and the vampire that attacked her has developed an obsession with making her his eternal mate.

In order to survive—and not as Count Dracula’s undead bride—Grace dives head first into the terrifying world of the supernatural. She teams up with a charming but mysterious warlock who strolled into town causing trouble and spouting stories of a Prophesy and Chosen One that looks exactly like Grace. Together they must figure out why Grace is different, who wants her dead, how she’s connected to the Chosen One, and who they can really trust.

My Opinion

Ungifted is a dazzling book that will make you laugh out loud, get teary eyed and of course shout at the main characters as you read. Ungifted was written in such a way that it truly does outshine Chameleon, even though it is the second book in the series.

Grace is a klutz, who do to her daddy’s political career has very few friends. You see her daddy is running for the President of the United States, which one would think would make her Miss Popular. Grace though is shy and is terrified of only being liked because of her daddy. So instead of embracing his popularity and having it added to hers- she isolates herself from her peers. This isolation leads them to nickname her disgrace. Cynthia is all the friend that she needs. Her being a klutz does not make matters any better especially since she repeatedly has accidents that lead to hottie Ethan coming to her rescue. Grace does not know it but Ethan protects her because he has too. He is resentful of the job though.

Grace accidently captures the attention of one Andrew De La Cote- a vampire who is well kinda evil. He wants to make Grace his mate, yet she refuses. Andrew kinda creeps her out and she does not like the attention that he is paying her. She tries to avoid him- which only causes him to attempt to turn her. When that doesn’t go as planned, he blackmails her instead. Grace does not understand why the supernatural world is becoming part of her world. Her life is in danger- repeatedly and Ethan keeps popping up everywhere. Will he be enough to save her? Who wants Grace dead and why?

Grace is stronger than she looks. She is consistently worried for the people in her life. She repeatedly gives up her own happiness for others. However, because of this people in the supernatural world view her as weak and as a necessary ally for them once her father is elected.

Ethan is full of resentment- resenting his clan, his dad and Grace. Especially resentful of Grace- he does not want to protect her. He thinks of her as weak and unworthy of his protection. Will he be able to protect her from the biggest threat around?

Andrew is a crazy vampire- who becomes obsessed with Grace. Will be he able to turn her? Will he be able to control her? Will she becomes his?

Grace grows a lot throughout this book. She becomes stronger as her belief in her own self-worth becomes stronger. She no longer will be a weakling to those that scare her.

A book full of suspense that leaves you guessing who the bad guys really are. As well as if the good guys are really good.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Waiting on Wednesday (25) Extraction

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

"Welcome to Extraction testing."

Clementine has spent her whole life preparing for her sixteenth birthday, when she’ll be tested for Extraction in the hopes of being sent from the planet Kiel’s toxic Surface to the much safer Core, where people live without fear or starvation. When she proves promising enough to be “Extracted,” she must leave without Logan, the boy she loves. Torn apart from her only sense of family, Clem promises to come back and save him from brutal Surface life.

What she finds initially in the Core is a utopia compared to the Surface—it’s free of hard labor, gun-wielding officials, and the moon's lethal acid. But life is anything but safe, and Clementine learns that the planet's leaders are planning to exterminate Surface dwellers—and that means Logan, too.

Trapped by the steel walls of the underground and the lies that keep her safe, Clementine must find a way to escape and rescue Logan and the rest of the planet. But the planet leaders don't want her running—they want her subdued.

With intense action scenes and a cast of unforgettable characters, Extraction is a page-turning, gripping read, sure to entertain lovers of Hunger Games and Ender's Game and leave them breathless for more.

Why I am waiting?

Extraction sounds like the kinda book that will leave me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Summer is the perfect time for these type books. I can read late into the night and not stress about work the next day.

Review: A Curse Awakened

Author Cecy Robson
Format e-ARC
Print Length ?
Publisher Loveswept
Published August 18, 2014

Celia Wird shouldn’t possess the ability to transform into a tigress. Her three sisters should never be able to burst into flames, heal wounds, or transform common objects into deadly weapons. And yet they do.

Before they were born, the Wird Sisters were cursed by a spell that was intended to destroy them, not endow them with extraordinary powers. The sisters’ magic is untamed and explosive at best, and time is running out for them to take command.

Vampires have targeted Celia’s sweet, tragically human ex-boyfriend Danny. The sisters rush to his aid, but in order to take down the vamps, first they must face their dark past and break a spell that’s screwing up their powers. Except this curse wasn’t meant to be broken . . . and the witch who cast it isn’t done toying with them yet.

My Opinion

A Curse Awakened is everything that a prequel novella should be. All those pesky questions about Celia and her sisters’ curse are answered. Where is came from, why and of course how they got their full powers. The story takes place right before the girls start their career as traveling nurses- it shows their first encounters with vampires. More importantly, it shows how important Danny is to Celia and the girls. In the books he was always seen as the nerdy best friend. This story shows the emotional side of Danny and Celia’s relationship and what they are willing to do for each other.

Danny is Celia’s ex-boyfriend, her only ex-boyfriend and is the one that broke up with her. For her own good- but it still hurts. Danny comes to Celia after he suspects that vampires have taken his daddy. He really has nowhere else to turn as he knows no other supernatural person. It is no surprise that the sisters do not want to help Danny, but Celia does.

In order for the girls to help him, they have to break the curse that turned them into weak supernatural. Danny has been working on figuring out what the girls were cursed with-on the sly. He didn’t want Celia to know that he has been doing research. He thinks he has it figured out and sends the girls to their mother’s village to face the big bad witch head on.

What they find there will surprise you. How they handle will it will entertain you. Rather or not they save Danny’s daddy is really an afterthought. The best thing about this story- besides answering some burning questions is that we get a deeper understanding of vampire politics- which I think will help us in the next book.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote Shayna leaned closer to me. “Um. Why aren’t they sparkling? Shouldn’t they like, sparkle?

Other People

  • He tells it like it is, even if you don’t want to hear it.

“it’s not safe for anyone to be around me anymore. It’s not safe for me to be around me anymore. This is the only way to make sure I don’t hurt someone again-“

She stopped. Realizing what she’d just said.

“Stop being so dramatic. You’re an Echo. That’s the reason for the blackouts.”

    He can fly!

    “ We just go up.”

Pushing aside her fear of heights, Cyn closed the gap between them. She could feel the warmth radiating off of him. It was like having her own personal heater.

Thirteen snaked an arm around her waist and pulled her tightly against his chest. “So you don’t fall,” he said.

Heat rushed to her head. It doesn’t mean anything.

But that didn’t stop her from wrapping her arms around him in return.

    He can cook.

She clanced at the table, and it took her a second to realize an empty plate was sitting there. He brought the pan over and slid a golden brown grilled cheese onto it. Tender apple wedges peeked out of its crispy edges, melted cheddar oozed from the sides, and the bacon was the exact shade of burnt that she liked.

“Eat,” he said, holding the plate up to her. She almost wavered.

But then everything came crashing back to her.

“What are you doing?” Cyn asked.

“Making you food. I thought you might be hungry. Something wrong with that?”

Okay so Avian is not your typical book boyfriend. He is grumpy and gruffy, but what could you expect he is the offspring of an angel and a demon. The fact remains he takes really good care of Cyn. Sometimes that is what matters most.

Saved by a Lycan named Will and thrust into a world she never knew existed, Hannah is taken to a secret facility that trains men and women to hunt vampires.

Determined to take her revenge for her sister’s death, Hannah joins the recruit program. As she is pushed to the brink of physical and mental exhaustion by the intense training, she fights her forbidden attraction to her instructor Will and struggles to adjust to her new life.

Please Note: This is Book One of a trilogy and contains a cliff-hanger ending.

    My Opinion

Hannah is an introvert, her younger sister Sarah is an extravert. While home from college Sarah drags Hannah along to an outdoor party. She really wasn’t thrilled to be there. Too bad her night was about to get worse. Vampires attack Hannah, she survives- Sarah does not. Hannah is now marked in the supernatural world and has to stay hidden- so she asks to become a recruit in a program that trains people to kill vampires. She asks for help getting her revenge.

Will is in charge of the recruits. He would have never let Hannah into the program, for one she is soft and for two he is well attracted to her, a human. Will being a Lycan is the perfect trainer for the recruits. Hannah is pushed to the limits. But unlike others, she does not complain- she knows firsthand what is out there. So what if Will is harder on her than the other recruits- he did save her life.

Training is rough, but she passes the first test. She even excels at an abnormal for of fighting. But she is marked. Will she survive the attentions of a vampire lord? Will she survive what is in store for her?

The Recruit ends with a cliffhanger that will have the reader biting their nails with a dozen or so questions running around in their heads. Oh my goodness did that just happen? Is there a way to fix it? Will Will be able to save her? Will she need saving? Slow with the world building but ultimately becomes an edge of your seat action packed read.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Instead of helping, he pulled me into his chest with his arms wrapped around me. His embrace was like a winter coat during a snowstorm. I was safe and protected. If only I could stay here forever. I didn’t want it to end.

He leaned down, brushing his mouth softly against mine. It was a kiss like I had never experienced. One of those kisses in a movie or a romance novel that never actually happens, and yet here I was, having it happen-to me.

What gal doesn't like to feel safe?  Or a hug? Or really a kiss to end all kisses?

    Waiting on Wednesday (24) Illusive

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

The X-Men meets Ocean's Eleven in this edge-of-your-seat sci-fi adventure about a band of "super" criminals.

When the MK virus swept across the planet, a vaccine was created to stop the epidemic, but it came with some unexpected side effects. A small percentage of the population developed superhero-like powers. Seventeen-year-old Ciere Giba has the handy ability to change her appearance at will. She's what's known as an illusionist...She's also a thief.

After a robbery goes awry, Ciere must team up with a group of fellow super-powered criminals on another job that most would consider too reckless. The formula for the vaccine that gave them their abilities was supposedly destroyed years ago. But what if it wasn't?

The lines between good and bad, us and them, and freedom and entrapment are blurred as Ciere and the rest of her crew become embroiled in a deadly race against the government that could cost them their lives

    Why I am waiting?

It may have something to do with the fact that X-Men: Days of Future Past just released. Or it could be that I love superhero movies. The fact remains this one looks like a fun and enteratining read.

Knight could be boyfriend material…if he weren’t so bossy, so contrary, so intent on questioning her all the time and doubting her every move, on changing her.

Emma spun in the water toward Knight, who had snuck up behind her. He rested his hands on her waist where her dress, soaked, clung to her skin. “Don’t get too cocky,” Knight said softly in her ear. A shiver ran down her neck. Knight’s grip around her waist tightened.

There is something about a guy who will stand by you even when he thinks you are wrong.  He has no problem telling you that you are wrong- but still loves you regardless of your faults.  If only the gal could see it.

    Review: The Nightmare Dilemma

    Author Mindee Arnett
    Format e-Book
    Print Length 384 pages

The second in a thrilling new fantastical mystery series

Dusty Everhart might be able to predict the future through the dreams of her crush, Eli Booker, but that doesn’t make her life even remotely easy. When one of her mermaid friends is viciously assaulted and left for dead, and the school’s jokester, Lance Rathbone, is accused of the crime, Dusty’s as shocked as everybody else. Lance needs Dusty to prove his innocence by finding the real attacker, but that’s easier asked than done. Eli’s dreams are no help, more nightmares than prophecies.

To make matters worse, Dusty’s ex-boyfriend has just been acquitted of conspiracy and is now back at school, reminding Dusty of why she fell for him in the first place. The Magi Senate needs Dusty to get close to him, to discover his real motives. But this order infuriates Eli, who has started his own campaign for Dusty’s heart.

As Dusty takes on both cases, she begins to suspect they’re connected to something bigger. And there’s something very wrong with Eli’s dreams, signs that point to a darker plot than they could have ever imagined.

    My Opinion

The sophomore curse is avoided in this entertaining sequel to The Nightmare Affair.

Dusty, Eli and Selena create the “Dream Team” which kinda reminds me of the Scooby team from my Buffy the Vampire Slayer watching days. When Britney a mermaid is attacked on school grounds Dusty is asked to dream walk with her to see what happened. What she finds is not what she expected and so she keeps it to herself.

To make matters even worse Lady Elaine asks that Dusty get close to her ex-boyfriend Paul again. As he is now back at school, even though in the previous book he was incohots with the Red Warlock. Her keeping an eye on Paul does interfer with her and Eli’s budding relationship. As does him sending mix singals.

Dusty is growing in her powers and in her confidence of herself. This book shows that growth which is entertaining to read. She is still as sassy as she was but now she is letting her sassiness show more. Selena is a great balance to Dusty. Selena is keeping a secret from her bestie though, a secret that needs to be shared. Her friendship and trust in Eli does take a hit in this book.

There is tension between the two- relationship tension. Eli keeps sending out mix messages- one second he is into her and the next he is not. This does cause Dusty to become a little boy crazy, but ultimately the mission she has been assigned does prevail. Eli’s indeference is explained later in the book and boy is the explaintion a dozy.

The Nightmare Dilemma is a fun read that allows you to escape your reality for a bit of time. I do recommend that you read the first book The Nightmare Affair before you tackle this one, as this is the sequel in the series.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

    Book Boyfriend (22) David

He knows how to comfort a gal, with the oh so awkward hug.

I didn’t get any further before David carefully wrapped his arms around me.  He held me like I was a bomb he was afraid was seconds from going off, keeping our bodies as far apart as he could while still technically hugging me.
“It’s okay,” he said, patting my back once.  He apparently decided that was a good move because he did it a few more times.

When he wants to kiss- man does he kiss.

“Wha-“ was as far as I got, because in a few long strides, David crossed the room and pulled me into his arms.  I was so stunned that it hardly even registered that he was kissing me until….oh. Oh.
This kiss didn’t make my stomach flutter; it made my skin sing.  It made me raise myself up on tiptoaes so I could kiss him back harder.

    He worries about the gal.

“Yes,” I said calmly, even as the balck car got closer, “you are.  Why did you follow me?”
The black car thumped our bumper, but I wasn’t worried anymore.  We were only a few houses away now.
“Because you were crying!” David shouted, his voice cracking with fear, and I thought anger.  “You were upset and I felt bad about the stupid article, and then that weird shit happened with Ryan, and even if I don’t always agree with the things you do at school, you do try and you didn’t”
He broke off and sagged against the seat, closing his eyes.  “I just… I don’t like crying girls, okay?”

David is not supposed to be a book boyfriend.  He is supposed to be a jerk but he doesn’t read too much like a jerk.  In fact he reads a lot like a guy who likes the gal but does not know how to handle it.
