Waiting on Wednesday (48) Fire and Heist

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

In Sky Hawkins's family, leading your first heist is a major milestone--even more so than learning to talk, walk, or do long division. It's a chance to gain power and acceptance within your family, and within society. But stealing your first treasure can be complicated, especially when you're a wyvern--a human capable of turning into a dragon.

Embarking on a life of crime is never easy, and Sky discovers secrets about her mother, who recently went missing, the real reason her boyfriend broke up with her, and a valuable jewel that could restore her family's wealth and rank in their community.

With a handpicked crew by her side, Sky knows she has everything she needs to complete her first heist, and get her boyfriend and mother back in the process. But then she uncovers a dark truth about were-dragon society--a truth more valuable and dangerous than gold or jewels could ever be.

Why am I waiting?

It is about dragon shifters. Of course I am waiting on it, biting nails waiting. The cover is amazing and really what could be more precious than gold.

His stare met and latched on to mine. His pupils were black against the purple, the irises fuzzy. “I could do a lot of things. I have done a lot of things, and sometimes, I do hurt people,” he said quietly, softly. “But I could never hurt you.”

If I didn't already adore Luc this scene would have done it for me. Dang...can he do intense.

"I like long walks in dark cemeteries and I want a pet llama before I die."

A llama?”

“He’s a bit obsessed with llamas,” Luc chimed in.

“Hell yeah. Who wouldn’t be? I mean, they’re like God got confused, you know? He already made horses and sheep, and decided, let’s mix that together, and voilĂ —you get a llama,” Kent explained.

“Freaking ah-mazing. Have you ever met a llama?”

The Darkest Star Kindle Location 2712

Umm...yeah, this scene makes me want a Kent book.  Not sure if I still will at the end of the book but right now, yeah I really want one.  Oh and a Grayson book as well as a Zoe book.  I want all the books.

Book Trailer Saturday (47) Aimless Witch

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sigh...

From the world of Rylee Adamson and the Elemental Seriescomes a heroine with nothing to lose and everything to prove….

My name is Pamela, and I am a witch who has no equal.

Or so I thought.

It has been three years since the Destroyer sundered our world. The land is longer whole, but broken into pieces, most technology gone, and the continents shattered into an unrecognizable place.

New monsters have risen from the depths, adding danger on top of danger. Through it all the humans fight to survive as they compete not only with the supernaturals for food and resources, but their own kind as well.

And me? The caravans of humans I pass, they look to me to save them.

Only I am not the witch I once was. Bound by those who fear my power and my bloodline, I’m lucky if I can light a match with my magic, never mind protect anyone but myself.

Now, the darkness in me rises, offering me all that I want. Freedom from the chains I wear, and the power to make everything right. But if I embrace the darkness I will face a cost I could never have imagined…

Waiting on Wednesday (46) Echoes of Fire

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

They may not be made for each other, but animal instincts are impossible to ignore.

Madisyn Drake is a rare breed of cat shifter…a loner, unpredictably wild, and emotionally distant. A recent betrayal has left her ready to sharpen her claws on the next man she sees…until a prowling wolf with steel-gray eyes and a brooding dark edge challenges her distrust. No matter how fully he satisfies her touch-hunger, Madisyn’s not ready to open up again, even if it is oh so gratifying.

Bracken Slater has earned his reputation as an indomitable predator. Once broken by grief and guilt, Brack is feeling alive again, thanks to the heady scent of this independent feline. Convincing her that they’re meant for each other is going to take more than branding Madisyn’s beautiful neck. She’s not interested in joining an unfamiliar pack, much less answering to an alpha. But when threats from both their pasts take shape, their unexpected destiny may be the only thing that can save them.

Why am I waiting?

I love this series and it is time for Bracken to find his mate. I hope she is as awesome as I imagine her to be.

He’d never dreamed he would see her again, no matter how many times his thoughts had turned to her over the past three years—questions of where she was, how she was faring. Does she ever think of me?

Corwin has no clue how telling these questions are.

“We need to talk more, once you’ve rested. I can help you, Kate. And more important, you can help me.” “With what?” She narrowed her eyes, a warning sounding in her head. “To save Rime from its own destruction and finish the task your father started.”

What game is Raith playing? and what role is Kate cast in? Where is Corwin? I don't trust Raith.

Review: House of Royale

Author Jaymin Eve
Format e-book
Print Length 268 pages
Publisher self
Published Sept. 15, 2018

Avalon has always felt different and alone. The ocean, along with the friends she’s made under the water, is the only constant in her life. She comforts herself with the notion that alone is at least safe. There’s no one to hide her extraordinary abilities from, to hide her dreams of living beneath the crashing waves forever.

Then Xander comes for her, reluctantly, judging by his snarly attitude. But, attitude aside, he draws her into a fantasy world, one filled with family and friendship and … the home she’s always craved.

He gives her the smallest glimpse of perfection, only to then inform her that it’s not a world she can have. Political issues in Royale will make her time there temporary.
Her time in Royale and with Xander.

She will stay until the very end, though. If there’s one thing that she’s determined to prevent, it’s Laous getting his hands on the starslight stone. A stone which is keeping two worlds alive and functioning.

A happily ever after might not be in the cards for her, but she’s determined to make it happen for her friends.

Even if it’s the last thing she does.

My Opinion

Ava’s family just up and left her, to go on a year long cruise. So she works as a lifeguard and at the sanctuary with her only friend Dr. Spinner a retired widower. She finds safety and comfort in the water but cannot let anyone know of her swimming skills, or of her communicating with the animals. She is okay though, and she doesn’t wallow in self-pity for not having the kinda house that the television says you are supposed to have. No parents, white picket fence and a dog for her.

Xander is a Daelighter from the House of Royale. A house that has really messed up illusions about how relationships are supposed to be. So much so that he does not want to find his soul mate. He just wants to get the job done. He is domineering and at times a jerk but there is a softer side to him. His home is beautiful and yet tragic in nature. His mom well…just read it and you will understand.

The House of Royale is the final story in the Secret Keepers series. While it does come to an end, there are some questions that were never answered. Some characters, granted secondary that you can’t help but wonder about. The friendship of the keepers is what makes this series for me. They bond, they become a family for some of them their first family. None of the girls tear each other down. Instead focusing on how to help each other, rely on each other and be a beacon of strength for each other.

I enjoyed this series, it was not my favorite by Jaymin Eve- that will always be the Supernatural Prison series. I can say this on is a solid, well developed series that will keep you entertained for hours.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote “I’m not going to be a burden for you.”

Review: Big Bad Beast

Author Shelly Laurenston
Format e-book
Print Length 307 pages
Publisher Kensington
Published May 1, 2011

When it comes to following her instincts, former Marine Dee-Ann Smith never holds back. And this deadly member of a shifter protection group will do anything to prove one of her own kind is having hybrids captured for dogfights. Trouble is, her too-cute rich-boy boss Ric Van Holtz insists on helping out. And his crazy-like-a-fox smarts and charming persistence are making it real hard for Dee to keep her heart safe...

Ric can't believe his luck. He's wanted this fiercely-independent she-wolf from day one, but he never expected teamwork as explosive as this. And now is his last chance to show Dee what she needs isn't some in-your-face Alpha male-but a wily, resourceful wolf who'll always have her back in a fight…and between the sheets.

My Opinion

This is the book I have been waiting for! Van and Dee-Ann! It only took six books for them to finally get their story but man has it been a great ride getting here. These two polar opposites are going to have a lot of opposition but man is their story going to awesome!

Ric Van Holtz is a wolf from THE Van Holtz family. Yepper, the one who owns all the restaurant, the upscale restaurants that everyone wants to get a table at. So yeah, he is a little on the rich side but a snob he is not. He is the chef in the restaurant, a hockey owner and he kinda manages the shifter CIA like organization, the Group. He is also a pretty boy, which was pretty much a given. He has his own family problems-enter dad and brother yet he lets it roll off his back. His cousin who is a black sheep of the family. He is also a city boy.

Dee-Ann is a Smith, yepper of the red-neck Smiths. A loner by nature, she gets shocked when people think of her as a friend. She is Eggie Smith’s only child and pretty much just like her daddy. An ex-marine with a kill record to match. She honestly does not see her and Ric working out because of their differences. Ric on the other hand things that their differences is what will make them work.

This one was a fun read, mainly because Ric is adamant about them getting together and Dee-Ann is just as adamant about them staying apart. The fact that Ric has no problem stepping back and letting Dee-Ann take the lead escapes her notice. I love the tit for tat that these two have going on and how their personalities really are opposites. They complement each other so much that it is hard to image either of them with someone else. Ric brings out a side of Dee-Ann that we haven’t seen yet. This was a side that we as the reader needed to see as Dee-Ann is a hard character to like. I loved her, she made me laugh every time she was on a page but a lot of readers loved to hate her.

The mystery of the illegal hybrid dogfights helps to keep these two in each other’s path. Old characters show up and we get to see where they are and how much they have grown. The Pride series is one where you see former characters time and time again. This makes it seem truly like a pride or one big family that keeps getting additions added to it.

I can’t say it enough, this is one great series that will have you binge reading it if you just found it. The Big Bad Beast was a great addition to the series and will keep you company through out a cold autumn day.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Book Trailer Saturday (45) Shadow of the Fox

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sigh...

One thousand years ago, the great Kami Dragon was summoned to grant a single terrible wish—and the land of Iwagoto was plunged into an age of darkness and chaos.

Now, for whoever holds the Scroll of a Thousand Prayers, a new wish will be granted. A new age is about to dawn.

Raised by monks in the isolated Silent Winds temple, Yumeko has trained all her life to hide her yokai nature. Half kitsune, half human, her skill with illusion is matched only by her penchant for mischief. Until the day her home is burned to the ground, her adoptive family is brutally slain and she is forced to flee for her life with the temple’s greatest treasure—one part of the ancient scroll.

There are many who would claim the dragon’s wish for their own. Kage Tatsumi, a mysterious samurai of the Shadow Clan, is one such hunter, under orders to retrieve the scroll…at any cost. Fate brings Kage and Yumeko together. With a promise to lead him to the scroll, an uneasy alliance is formed, offering Yumeko her best hope for survival. But he seeks what she has hidden away, and her deception could ultimately tear them both apart.

With an army of demons at her heels and the unlikeliest of allies at her side, Yumeko’s secrets are more than a matter of life or death. They are the key to the fate of the world itself.

Review: Nightchaser

Author Amanda Bouchet
Format e-ARC
Print Length 416 pages
Publisher Piatkus Books
Published Jan. 1, 2019

A delicious new heart-pounding romantic adventure from USA Today bestseller Amanda Bouchet!

Captain Tess Bailey and her crew of Robin Hood-like thieves are desperate and on the run. Pursued by a vicious military general who wants them dead or alive, Tess has to decide if she can trust Shade Ganavan, a tall, dark and arrogant stranger with ambiguous motivations.

Shade Ganavan had oodles of arrogance, oodles of charm, and oodles of something that made me want to kick him in the nuts.

What Tess and Shade don’t know about each other might get them killed…unless they can set aside their differences and learn to trust each other—while ignoring their off-the-charts chemistry.

My Opinion

I received this ARC copy of Nightchaser from SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca through Netgalley. This is my honest and voluntary review.

I am a huge fan of The Kingmakers trilogy By Amanda Bouchet and so I jumped at the chance to review the first book in her new series. I went in thinking that I would have a good time reading about outer-space. This story is so much more than that though. Space opera with a slight Firefly feel to it that captures the imagination from the first paragraph.

Tess is a ship captain with a makeshift family as her crew. She trust very few but those that she trust she holds close to her heart. All decisions she make are with her crew in mind and does not mind sacrificing for them time and time again. The Dark Watch (the government) is after her ship after they stumbled upon some vaccines. With a narrow escape the ship is damaged and she had to land it, repair it, then deliver those vaccines to people who desperately need them. On Albion 5, a habitable planet, she gets help from Shade Ganavan. Shade owns a repair shop and has a soft spot for Tess. He also has secrets that could get her into more trouble than she already is in.

Tess has had a rough life, her mom dying and her father’s reaction has shaped her beyond belief. Having survived the orphanage and the mines, she has a quiet strength about her that others at 26 years old do not have. Jax knows her secret, others on the ship do not. She has to stay out of the way of the Dark Watch. When they find her she gives them a run for their money, which is why there is a bounty put on her head. Tess’ personality is rough, rugged and sarcastic. I loved it! Her loyalty and love for her crew will forever endure her to me. Best thing about Tess though is that she is not perfect, and could have even been broken instead she keeps fighting.

Shade is a little shadey…yes I went there. He is hot, available and handy. He is clearly attracted to Tess and wants to help her, yet something makes him hesitate. Shade has his secrets and his reasons but man when they come out will that trust be blown away. Shade’s past shapes who he is and how he handles things.

Even though this is plugged as a romance there is a lot of action in this book. The action is what pulled me in to the book and the romance is what cemented me to the chair. The chemistry between Tess and Shade is boiling hot. Yet, how they move one from the reveals will determine if it continues to build steam or if it settles down to distilled water.

There were times when the switching from points of view took a while to get use to. I think this is because Tess was written in first person and Shade was in third person. I am unsure why the author chose to do the different points of view like this instead of keeping to one format. I did like that Shade’s third person point of view allowed us to see the struggle that he was going through internally.

Nighchaser lays the foundation for a fabulous series. One that will hold you hostage until the very end. It is an action adventure that brings so many different feels into play. There is no cliffhanger yet you will wonder what happens next. Not only to Tess and Shade but the secondary characters as well.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Waiting on Wednesday (45) The Dark Days Deceit

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

The thrilling, genre-bending conclusion to Lady Helen's demon-hunting adventures, set in the glittering Regency world.

Lady Helen has retreated to a country estate outside Bath to prepare for her wedding to the Duke of Selburn, yet she knows she has unfinished business to complete. She and the dangerously charismatic Lord Carlston have learned they are a dyad, bonded in blood, and only they are strong enough to defeat the Grand Deceiver, who threatens to throw mankind into chaos. But the heinous death-soaked Ligatus Helen has absorbed is tearing a rift in her mind. Its power, if unleashed, will annihilate both Helen and Carlston unless they can find a way to harness its ghastly force and defeat their enemy.

In the final book of the trilogy that began with THE DARK DAYS CLUB and continued with THE DARK DAYS PACT, the intrepid Lady Helen's story hurtles to a shocking conclusion full of action, heartbreak, and betrayal.

Why am I waiting?

Umm that ending of The Dark Days Pack left me speechless, stunned, and really just wondering what just happened. Did She? The Duke? What about Lord Carlston?
