Waiting on Wednesday (43) Crown of Oblivion

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

37819077Astrid is the surrogate for Princess Renya, which means she bears the physical punishment if Renya steps out of line. Astrid has no choice—she and her family are Outsiders, the lower class of people without magic and without citizenship.

But there is a way out of this life—competing in the deadly Race of Oblivion. To enter the race, an Outsider is administered the drug Oblivion, which wipes their memory clear of their past as they enter a new world with nothing to help them but a slip of paper bearing their name and the first clue. It’s not as simple as solving a puzzle, however—for a majority of the contestants, the race ends in death. But winning would mean not only freedom for Astrid, but citizenship and health care for her entire family. With a dying father to think of, Astrid is desperate to prevail.

From the beginning, the race is filled with twists and turns. One of them is Darius, a fellow racer Astrid meets but isn’t sure she can trust. Though they team up in the race, as Astrid’s memories begin to resurface, she remembers just who he was to her—a scorned foe who may want revenge. Astrid also starts to notice she has powers no Outsider should—which could help her win the race, but also make her a target if anyone finds out. With stakes that couldn’t be higher, Astrid must decide what is more important: risking her life to remember the mysteries of the past, or playing a cutthroat game in order to win her—and her family’s—freedom.

Why I am waiting?

She has a memory wipe and racing to her Freedom.  Who is Darius?  How is he a foe?  She volunteered to do the race, so now why does she want her memories back?

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sigh...

The stunningly original, must-read fantasy of 2018 follows two fiercely independent young women, centuries apart, who hold the power to save their world...or doom it.

To prove she is the Sun Queen, Rielle must endure seven elemental magic trials. If she fails, she will be executed...unless the trials kill her first.

One thousand years later, the legend of Queen Rielle is a fairy tale to Eliana Ferracora. A bounty hunter for the Undying Empire, Eliana believes herself untouchable--until her mother vanishes. To find her, Eliana joins a rebel captain and discovers that the evil at the empire's heart is more terrible than she ever imagined.

HOCUS POCUS BOOK TAG

The Bookish Chick did a fabulous book tag over Hocus Pocus!  So of course I had to do it.  I mean wouldn't you? It was one of my favorite movies growing up.

Hocus Pocus Book Tag

A great trilogy

Image result for dark days club trilogy

Winifred Sanderson: A book with a truly evil female villain.

Kill the Queen (Crown of Shards, #1)
Evie's cousin- kills her own momma and sister.  Don't get much more evil than that.

Sarah Sanderson: A book that uncannily attracts children.

Image result for percy jackson

Maybe less popular, this series just keeps going and going.

Mary Sanderson: A book that is just plain silly.

Beast Behaving Badly (Pride, #5)

This book still makes me laugh.  The most ever laughed over a book.

Max: A book that is trying really hard to be cool, but doesn’t always succeed.

45324303. sy475

I love academy books.  I enjoy Heather Renee's other series- this one though, I could take it or leave it.

Dani: A book that isn’t afraid to tell it like it is.

Binx: A book series that just won’t die.

Image result for mortal instrumentsImage result for mortal instruments

Ice: A book with a character that’s dumb as a rock.

Isabelle a side character in this one is beyond stupid.  Supposedly she has some growing to do.  Maybe she will.

The Black Flame Candle: A book or series you wish you could resurrect.

Image result for vampire academy series

Headless Billy Butcherson: A book that’s not as bad as people make it out to be.

Image result for Twilight series

I liked the series.  I am not ashamed of liking the series either.

Winifred Sanderson’s Spell Book: A book with a mind of its own.

47364567. sy475

Tegan anyone?

Garry Marshall: A book with a cameo.

47791314. sy475
What a cameo it is!  Seriously if you haven't started reading Jaymin Eve, are you truly reading?

Waiting on Wednesday (42) Call Down the Hawk

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

31373184The dreamers walk among us . . . and so do the dreamed. Those who dream cannot stop dreaming – they can only try to control it. Those who are dreamed cannot have their own lives – they will sleep forever if their dreamers die.

And then there are those who are drawn to the dreamers. To use them. To trap them. To kill them before
their dreams destroy us all.

Ronan Lynch is a dreamer. He can pull both curiosities and catastrophes out of his dreams and into his compromised reality.

Jordan Hennessy is a thief. The closer she comes to the dream object she is after, the more inextricably she becomes tied to it.

Carmen Farooq-Lane is a hunter. Her brother was a dreamer . . . and a killer. She has seen what dreaming can do to a person. And she has seen the damage that dreamers can do. But that is nothing compared to the destruction that is about to be unleashed. . . .

Why am I waiting?

Did you read the blurb?  I am so there, with a cup of tea and a warm blanket!  Will Jordan get caught?  Will Ronan get wake up?  And what is Carmen up to- hunting Jordan or Ronan? So many questions!  I need answers!

“Girl, you’ve got this and everything else the world throws at you. Don’t dull your light for anyone. You’re the most powerful supe in this school … maybe in the world, if Louis is right. Own your awesome.”

Supernatural Academy: Year Two Kindle Location 818

Gotta love how Larissa is always there for a pep talk!

Teaser Two

I would go toe to toe with anyone who argued books weren’t life savers. They were the work of whatever god kept us functional when the world seemed too hard to handle. They were the air when we couldn’t breathe. The blood when it wouldn’t pump in our veins. The beat of our heart when we were done trying to force life to go on. Books saved lives. End of story, pun intended.

Supernatural Academy: Year Two Kindle Location 1666

Preach Maddie! One more time for those in the back!

Teaser Three

Don’t you dare forgive him until he offers some sort of explanation. Larissa was pissed. Rone had been sniffing around her again; she’d all but kicked him in the balls in reply. My bestie was not giving in without a fight.

Supernatural Academy: Year Two Kindle Location 3766

Didn't think Larissa had it in her! You go girl! Now Maddie just needs to take her advice.

Book Trailer Saturday (42) The Awakening

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sigh...

If you had met me a few weeks ago, you probably would have described me as an average teenage girl - someone normal. Now my life has changed forever and I’m as far away from normal as it gets. A living science experiment - not only can I see ghosts, but I was genetically altered by a sinister organization called Edison Group. What does that mean? For starters. I'm a teenage necromancer whose powers are out of control: I raise the dead without even trying. Trust me, that is not a power you want to have. Ever.

Now I’m running for my life with three of my supernatural friends - a charming sorcerer, a cynical werewolf, and a disgruntled witch - and we have to find someone who can help us before the Edison Group finds us first. Or die trying.

***Release Date was April 28, 2009***

Waiting on Wednesday (41) The Guinevere Deception

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

43568394From New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White comes a new fantasy series reimagining the Arthurian legend, set in the magical world of Camelot.

There was nothing in the world as magical and terrifying as a girl.

Princess Guinevere has come to Camelot to wed a stranger: the charismatic King Arthur. With magic clawing at the kingdom's borders, the great wizard Merlin conjured a solution--send in Guinevere to be Arthur's wife . . . and his protector from those who want to see the young king's idyllic city fail. The catch? Guinevere's real name--and her true identity--is a secret. She is a changeling, a girl who has given up everything to protect Camelot.

To keep Arthur safe, Guinevere must navigate a court in which the old--including Arthur's own family--demand things continue as they have been, and the new--those drawn by the dream of Camelot--fight for a better way to live. And always, in the green hearts of forests and the black depths of lakes, magic lies in wait to reclaim the land. Arthur's knights believe they are strong enough to face any threat, but Guinevere knows it will take more than swords to keep Camelot free.

Deadly jousts, duplicitous knights, and forbidden romances are nothing compared to the greatest threat of all: the girl with the long black hair, riding on horseback through the dark woods toward Arthur. Because when your whole existence is a lie, how can you trust even yourself?

Why am I waiting?

A re-telling of Camelot!  I am so there!  Where is Lancelot?  Will Merlin's sister show herself?  Will her identity as a changeling be discovered?

Teaser Tuesday (41) Protect the Prince

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers.

Teaser One

I was the one who avenged your prince, and your ambassador, and all the other people—Andvarian and Bellonan alike—who were murdered. I was the one who challenged Vasilia, and I was the one who shoved my sword through her black, treacherous heart. So perhaps you should all think about that, instead of condemning me for a crime I didn’t commit.”

Protect the Prince Kindle Location 1992

Wonder how Sully's bio dad and brother are going to take her speech? To heart or to sword?

Teaser Two

“What are you proposing?” I asked in a wary voice. “A simple trade,” Heinrich said. “I will sign your treaty and align Andvari with Bellona and Unger . . .” “If?” The king gave me a cold, thin smile and gestured at his son. “If you marry Dominic.”

Protect the Prince Kindle Location 2802

Sully's daddy did not just propose that Evie marry his big brother! I can't even, some one slap him on the back of the head. Evie better tell him H to the NO!

Teaser Three

“Because life can be a cruel, heartless bitch,” Helene snapped. “Because we should hold on to the happiness we have and not worry about what other people think of it, or especially of us. Because caring about someone occasionally means compromising something about yourself for their benefit and not your own. That’s what real love is, Lucas.”

Protect the Prince Kindle Location 4563

Holy cow! Sully's ex-fiance just schooled him on love. I did not see that coming.

Review: Wicked Omen

Author Megan Montero
Format e-book
Print Length 229 pages
Publisher self
Published September 22, 2019

There’s no such thing as magical powers. . .

All my life the only kind of magic I’d ever seen was the sparkling jewels on fifth avenue. On the night of my sixteenth birthday all hell breaks loose, and by hell I mean me! I never felt power like this, so dark, so tempting, so out of my control! No one is safe around me. And now I’m being thrown into Warwick Academy.

An academy for the darker side of magic. . .the warlock side.

My captor, my savior, and the bane of my existence, Beckett Dust insists on keeping me here even though we can’t stand each other. I don’t care how drop dead gorgeous he is or that he rules the school like he owns it, I need to stay as far away from him as I can. His deepest desire is to turn me into a weapon in the great war to come. My deepest desire is . . .him. There’s a thin line between love and hate and right now I’m walking it.

My Opinion

Wicked Omen (The Royals: Warlock Court) is the first book in the second “season” of The Royals. At the end of Wicked Queen, Beck and Grayson are sent home to sort out their houses (warlock and vampire) this is Beck’s story. While you don’t have to start with the first set of books, I highly recommend it. There will be spoilers from the first season in this review- consider yourself warned.

Beckett Dust has returned home, to Warwick Academy. One a mission from the angels to take his place as one of the founding bloodlines. Purpose take over the warlock council and throw support to Queen Zinnia. Only in order for him to take over the council he has to have all five founding bloodlines supporting him. Four are known, he grew up with him and are his ride or die guys. The fifth they thought didn’t exist. Until now- Beckett along with Maze, Cross and Ophelia are sent to a nightclub to help a warlock who is coming into their powers. One who may be from one of the founding bloodlines. Little did they know that the warlock they would come to know is actually a girl (all of the other heirs are guys). One who Beckett is pulled towards more than he admits.

Beckett is a Knight whose purpose is to protect the Queens and help them fight Alataris. So color him surprised when he is sent home. Home is not where the heart is, but instead where the pain is. Let’s not forget his guardian Ridge (who needs to die painfully and slowly), who happens to be the headmaster. There is a lot of pressure placed on Beck, and with his attraction to Astrid coming into play at times he seems like a jackbehind.

Astrid is new to this world. She is adapting okay, but fights Beckett on everything. Girl I get it, you are independent and don’t need no man. They are still nice to have around to reach the top shelf of the cabinet or to open a jar that is stuck- just saying. She is use to being alone, with only her bestie to keep her company. So I understand why she feels that she can’t let Beckett control her, still though sister something has gotta give in order for you to find “love”. Astrid has some mad powers, and they are not all unlocked. It will be interesting to see what happens when they are.

This one ends on a cliffhanger- one where one of the characters realizes how much they care and the other pain is involved. I cannot wait to see what happens next, and if the chemistry between these two heats up! Here is hoping to yes! I also want to know more about the other founding bloodline heirs. Most importantly though, will Ophelia and Cross kiss?

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote Never trust a girl who doesn’t wear sweatpants when they’re alone.

Other People

Medusa- she’s Medusa, yep snakes in the head
Cross- one of the five founding bloodlines of the warlock court
Ophelia- she is still my favorite
Tilly- Astrid’s human bestie
Orin- demon cat
Kitty- evil mean girl

Let's Discuss: Cliffhangers

via GIPHY

Imagine sitting in your favorite reading place- hot tea, cold tea, maybe a coke near you.  A warm blanket wrapped around your feet.  You have spent the last few hours being held captive by the words on a page.

via GIPHY
You are besties with the main characters, emerged in the world and dying to know what happens. You turn the page knowing you are near the end.  You even know that there is another book coming out soon, twelve months or less, so the wait isn't going to be too bad.  Then it happens- the book ends on a cliffhanger!

via GIPHY
You start biting your nails or your bottom lip.  You wonder if you new fictional besties are going to be okay.  You pace- you may even look up fan created theories on the internet about what will happen next.

via GIPHY
The fall is steep and you know not to look down, you can't help it though. You give it a day or two, then check online to see if the author posted anything on social media about your besties- no you aren't insane.  You are suffering from cliffhanger syndrome.

Cliffhangers are a great writing tool for authors.  They ensure that the reader will want to read the next book in the series. Ensuring sales, people talking about the book even hate email.

via GIPHY

Cliffhangers are also the devil- for the reader of course.  You try to move on, you read another book or two but periodically you check to see when the next release date will happen.  You maybe write it down, put it in your calendar on your phone, maybe pre-order the next one.

via GIPHY
Lots of readers though hate cliffhangers.  They can't handle the wait, they want every book to end in a happily ever after.  I am not that reader.

via GIPHY
I love cliffhangers, although I will admit, I tend to get obsessed with some series.  Going as far as joining online communities to talk about the characters or to ask questions.  Even post theories.  Cliffhangers are made for readers like me.  They make me want to stay in the world I was just in and make me want to know what happens next.  They don't have to be action packed, anxiety filled either.  Emotional cliffhangers get  me right in the gut.

Rather you hate them or love them cliffhangers are always a risk when reading (unless it is a choose your own adventure.)

Book Trailer Saturday (40) Rebel

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sigh...

Respect the Legend. Idolize the Prodigy. Celebrate the Champion. But never underestimate the Rebel.

With unmatched suspense and her signature cinematic storytelling, #1 New York Times–bestselling author Marie Lu plunges readers back into the unforgettable world of Legend for a truly grand finale.

Eden Wing has been living in his brother’s shadow for years. Even though he’s a top student at his academy in Ross City, Antarctica, and a brilliant inventor, most people know him only as Daniel Wing’s little brother.

A decade ago, Daniel was known as Day, the boy from the streets who led a revolution that saved the Republic of America. But Day is no longer the same young man who was once a national hero. These days he’d rather hide out from the world and leave his past behind. All that matters to him now is keeping Eden safe―even if that also means giving up June, the great love of Daniel’s life.

As the two brothers struggle to accept who they’ve each become since their time in the Republic, a new danger creeps into the distance that’s grown between them. Eden soon finds himself drawn so far into Ross City’s dark side, even his legendary brother can’t save him. At least not on his own . . .

Waiting on Wednesday (39) Awk-weird

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

There’s more to me than just being awk-weird. I own my own flower shop, have some great friends, and I have my eye on adopting the most adorable kitten. But sadly, hot guys don’t tend to be blown away by my trivia-spouting, dorky self.

So when a Thor-lookalike who happens to be a professional hockey player hits on me at my bestie’s wedding rehearsal party... You better believe I climbed that tree like a cat. And the fact that it happened not once, not twice, but three times? Yeah, that’s pretty much a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a woman like me.

There’s zero chance I’ll end up ever seeing him again... right?

Until the pregnancy test comes up positive. What happens next?

Oh my God, I wish I knew…

Why am I waiting?

Ever since the start of The Hartigans series, I have wondered who Tess would end up with.  She is shy, yet fiercely loyal to her friends.  It would take an extremely self-assured guy to be able to handle her.  Cole just might be the hockey player to do it.  Although my money is still on Tess.

Teaser Tuesday (39) Wicked Omen (The Royals: Warlock Court Book 1)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers.

Teaser One

“Beckett Dust, is it? The prodigal son returns and brings his riffraff with him.”

Tension stole through the boys in the group as though they were ready for a fight.

Ophelia's giggle cut the silence. “Riffraff? You wish. Four out of the five founding bloodlines stand before you and well, let’s not forget me... the daughter of the man you all worshiped. So you might want to rethink your word choice.”

Wicked Omen Kindle Location 514

Ophelia is still one of my favorites.  She deserves so much happiness- cough, cough Cross.

Teaser Two

“Damn it, Astrid, this isn’t some kind of party where you show up looking all hot! Now go put something on that you can move in, that you can be comfortable in.”......“And no sexy little heels. Wear your boots, for love of God,” he called after me.

Wicked Omen Kindle Location 1456

He thinks shes is hot!  He thinks she is hot!!! He even yelled it at her.  Happy dance!

Teaser Three

I didn't know what to make of her.  She was a complete contradiction. On one hand, I was one hundred percent sure she’d killed her fair share of people. On the other, she seemed so genuine and sweet. I had no idea if I could trust her or not.

Wicked Omen Kindle Location 1483

Ophelia might just get a bestie!  I hope so!  One that is not her friend due to fate/destiny.  A true friend.  True statement though that she is kinda scary.
