Book Trailer Saturday (13) The Dysasters

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sigh...

Foster Stewart knows she's different. Her life has never been "normal." Talking to plants and controlling cloud formations aren't things most seventeen year olds are into. Tate "Nighthawk" Taylor is perfect. Star quarterback and all around dreamy boy next door he never thought about his "extra" abilities. What quarterback wouldn't want night vision? That's not weird, right? It's cool!

But on the night of their first meeting a deadly tornado brings them together and awakens their true abilities - the power to control the element air. Unbeknown to Tate and Foster, they are the first in a group of teens that were genetically manipulated before birth to bond with the elements. Which truly sucks for Foster, as she has to face the fact that Dr. Rick Stewart, her beloved scientist father, betrayed her and now wants to use her and the others for his own nefarious world domination plot.

Foster and Tate must stop Dr. Stewart and his minions before he destroys their lives and the world.

I Want to…But I Don’t Book Tag

Jessica at a GREAT read had this book tag up the other day and I thought why not? She got it from Cornerfolds last week and decided I wanted to give it a go! Jami Shelves is the creator of the tag!

A BOOK YOU FEEL YOU NEED TO READ BECAUSE EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT IT
18304322

I love YA and at times will read contemporary. I just couldn't bring my self to get this one plus Willowdean even has a movie on Netflix- which I watched, come on Jennifer Aniston is in it. I cried big fat ugly tears. Everyone and their momma says the book is always better. I just don't sign up for crying if I can help it.

A BOOK THAT’S REALLY LONG

13888

This is the 11th book in the series, and I have read all of the other ones.  This one is at 860 pages and so I have it...But come one 860 pages...

A BOOK THAT YOU’VE OWNED/HAD ON YOUR TBR FOR TOO LONG

25785357

This one came out in February of 2016.  Still haven't opened it.  I wanted to read it so badly before the release.  I pre-ordered, so excited.  Then life happened and other books were released and I kinda forgot about it.

A BOOK THAT’S REQUIRED READING
2156

When picking out which book to read for Brit Lit many years ago, I picked Pride and Prejudice which I am forever grateful for.  This began my love affair with alpha males who are a tad bit arrogant- Hello Mr. Darcy.  There were other books on the list one being Persuasion.  I want to read it, but never got around to it.

A BOOK THAT INTIMIDATES YOU
10194157

Not so much the book/series but all the hype around the book intimidated me into not picking it up. There is still hype around this one as Netflix just picked it up.  Not sure if I will get around to reading it or just wait for the tv show.  I promise you I know that the book is always better it is just sometimes you want to get lost in a show just as much as a book and reading it before the release of the show may influence my opinion of it.

A BOOK THAT YOU THINK MIGHT BE SLOW
29935874

Another one that has been in my pile for way too long.  The first two books in the series were good.  I liked them and so of course grabbed the third when it came out.  Then I got to thinking, I have read the same story- from different points of view and some events were different twice now.  Another book I had been waiting on dropped the same day and the rest is history....

A BOOK YOU NEED TO BE IN THE RIGHT MOOD FOR
26061583
I loved this series and I really want to read this book.  Just know that I have to be in a certain mood for it, and the weather has to be right.  This is one that I cannot read with the sun shining bright and the sky blue with white clouds.  Dark stormy and windy has to align with my mood and a cup of hot tea.

A BOOK YOU’RE UNSURE IF YOU WILL LIKE
7171637
I loved the Mortal Instruments, the first three books.  I liked the last three of them.  I loved the Dark Artifices books that followed them but while I own this one- I still haven't started it.  When the original got expanded I was excited but the last three books of the Mortal Instruments I was not in love with.  This series came out along with those books and well I just don't know that I will like them or not.

Review: Moonlight Scandals

Author Jennifer L. Armentrout
Format e-book
Print Length 400 pages
Publisher Avon
Published Jan. 29, 2019

It takes a fearless woman to love the most scandalous man alive in New York Times Bestselling Author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s breathtaking novel

Even a ghost hunter like Rosie Herpin couldn’t have foreseen the fateful meeting between two mourners that has brought her so intimately close to the notorious and seductive Devlin de Vincent. Everyone in New Orleans knows he’s heir to a dark family curse that both frightens and enthralls. To the locals, Devlin is the devil. To Rosie, he’s a man who’s stoking her wildest fantasies. When a brutal attack on her friend is linked to the de Vincents, he becomes a mystery she may be risking her life to solve.

Devlin knows what he wants from this sexy and adventurous woman. But what does Rosie want from him? It’s a question that becomes more pressing—and more dangerous—when he suspects her of prying into the shadows of his past.

Now, the legends surrounding the de Vincents may not be myths at all. But if she’s to discover the truth, she must follow them straight into the arms of the man she can’t resist—the handsome devil himself.

My Opinion

My first series ender of the New Year and what an ending! This review may contain Moonlight Sins and Moonlight Seduction spoilers. Consider yourself warned.

In the previous two books, Devlin de Vincent was harsh, abrasive and kind of an ass. There is really no other way to put it. He was too mean to be a jerk, too in everyone’s business to be uncaring. Half way through Moonlight Seduction I started to think that maybe the issue is that he cares too much. What is it about Devlin that make people call him the Devil? It cannot just be how he was named- it has to be something else. Well, this is one devil that is welcome into my home anytime.

He is harsh, abrasive even all due to his upbringing. With a father like theirs we’re lucky the de Vincent brothers made it out alive let alone as solid as they are. These qualities make him who he is and who he is- is pretty amazing once you understand where he is coming from. More than anything though, he is a loving brother even if his own brothers do not see it. He sacrificed so much for them, and they have no freaking clue.

Rosie is an outsider who sees too much. Rosie is who she is and you get what you get from her. She calls a spade a spade and does it with a smile. She has found love, lived with love and lost love all in her short life. To say she has been through enough is an understatement but she keeps landing on her two feet. To have to have gone through what she went through and still be standing- dang if I had half of her strength. She is often underestimated by Dev until that is he realizes it, which of course intrigues him.

These two together are like oil and water- it works though. Their chemistry is off the charts. Sometimes I wondered if a fire would break out due to their sparks. Tempers do tend to make the passion flow, boy does it flow!

Moonlight Scandals completes the de Vincent series, all the fray ends are tied up nicely. The mysteries and questions surrounding the brothers are answered. For the brothers at least, the rest of the public well who cares- they are de Vincents after all.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote “If there is no risk, there is no reward.”

Other People

Waiting on Wednesday (13) The Devouring Gray

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

On the edge of town a beast haunts the woods, trapped in the Gray, its bonds loosening…

Uprooted from the city, Violet Saunders doesn’t have much hope of fitting in at her new school in Four Paths, a town almost buried in the woodlands of rural New York. The fact that she’s descended from one of the town’s founders doesn’t help much, either—her new neighbours treat her with distant respect, and something very like fear. When she meets Justin, May, Isaac, and Harper, all children of founder families, and sees the otherworldly destruction they can wreak, she starts to wonder if the townsfolk are right to be afraid.

When bodies start to appear in the woods, the locals become downright hostile. Can the teenagers solve the mystery of Four Paths, and their own part in it, before another calamity strikes?

Why am I waiting?

The blurb reminds me of The Secret Circle with a touch of Veronica Mars in it.  So of course I am waiting.  How could I not be waiting on this one when The Secret Circle is what started me down the path of paranormal books in the first place?

Waiting on Wednesday (12) In Another Life

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Chloe was three years old when she became Chloe Holden, but her adoption didn’t scar her, and she’s had a great life. Now, fourteen years later, her loving parents’ marriage has fallen apart and her mom has moved them to Joyful, Texas. Starting twelfth grade as the new kid at school, everything Chloe loved about her life is gone. And feelings of déjà vu from her early childhood start haunting her.

When Chloe meets Cash Colton she feels drawn to him, as though they're kindred spirits. Until Cash tells her the real reason he sought her out: Chloe looks exactly like the daughter his foster parents lost years ago, and he’s determined to figure out the truth.

As Chloe and Cash delve deeper into her adoption, the more things don’t add up, and the more strange things start happening. Why is Chloe’s adoption a secret that people would kill for?

Why am I waiting?

I loved CC Hunter's Shadow Falls Series and I am hoping that this one has the same feel to it.  Is cash her foster brother?  What is happening with her parents?  Why would they move her as senior?

Teaser One

Nick mentally slapped himself on the forehead. What the hell am I doing?

Cady was his weakness, always had been since they first met. He remembered that exact moment, a year after he became Beta and Grant had asked him to pick up his "little sister" at the airport.

Blood Moon Kindle Location 743

I really liked Nick in the first book and was/am excited to read his book. Although I kinda want to hit him.

Teaser Two

"This is what I've been wanting to do," he whispered into her ear. "You drive me crazy. And seeing you with anyone else makes me insane."

Blood Moon Kindle Location 766

I dont know with the way he has been treating her....I am not so sure that I would give in...

Teaser Three

"Because, Nicky-boy," she took him by the arm and sat him on the couch, "we are going to find Cady, rescue her, and you will get down on your knees, grovel for forgiveness, declare your everlasting love to her, and she'll fall into your arms, right?" She patted his arm. "I totally shipped you guys from the beginning!"

Blood Moon Kindle Location 2621

So did I Alynna so did I but Nick screwed up really bad and I really hope Cady makes him pay a little bit before taking him back.

Teaser Tuesday (11) Louis

Teaser One

"Why do you live alone?" Jessa asked in the blunt way of youth. Yeah, she made me feel every single one of my hundred-plus years.

"Because...." I cleared my throat. “Sometimes it’s easier. Sometimes it hurts less being alone than losing people you love.”

Kindle Location 138

Jessa is being slick, asking Lizzie random questions that seem so innocent. Our girl is still protecting her pack even if Lizzie doesn't realize it.

Teaser Two

Jessa stepped closer to me. “Release the hold you have on your power,” she said, smiling at me. “I think some of the supes in this room need a lesson on underestimating you just because you’re tiny and absolutely gorgeous and a woman.”

Kindle Location 200

Of course the Compass boys are going to underestimate her. The real question is why is she helping to find Louis' soul?

Teaser Three

Louis's lips twitched and his eyes filled with mirth. "ANd that would be a bad thing?"

The ache in my chest deepened. "Yes, because it's just sex. And that’s not enough for me any longer. I’m too old and broken just to be a powerful mage’s plaything.”

Kindle Location 1143

You go Lizzie! Standing up for yourself. Gotta admire that!

It feels like I have been waiting on this one forever!  So excited that it is finally here and I am loving Lizzie.

Review: Oracles Moon

Author Thea Harrison
Format e-book
Print Length 336 pages
Publisher Berkley Sensation
Published March 6, 2012

When Grace Andreas's sister, Petra, and her husband are both killed, Grace inherits the Power and responsibilities of the Oracle of Louisville, as well as her sister's two young children--neither of which she is prepared for. Then Khalil, Demonkind and Djinn Prince of House Marid, decides to make himself a part of the household both as guardian and counterpoint to Grace's impudence towards the Elder Races.

My Opinion

In the Serpent’s Kiss we met both Grace who is the Oracle and Khalil, a Djinn. This is their story, one of which I was waiting for. They stole the show in Serpent’s Kiss from the moment they showed up on the pages. After being introduced to them I could have cared less what happened to the two main characters, I wanted to know about these two.

Grace inherited the power and responsibilities of the Oracle when her older sister died, along with her niece and nephew. Responsibilities that have her drowning in debt, and unable to see a way out of their circumstances. Khalil promised to look after the children while she did her Oracle duties for Carling and Rune. Grace thought he only meant for that moment in time. Khalil had something different in mind, such as a lifetime or two. There is a huge threat to Grace and the children that Khalil will take on.

I love how down to earth Grace is and how formal Khalil is. They shouldn’t match, yet they do. She is more seat of your pants kinda gal, he is a man with a plan. He is also old as dirt, and had very little interaction with the humans that he has always viewed as beneath him. That is until Grace. His interactions with the children are amusing, and heartwarming. His protectiveness is just down right sexy.

Khalil can kinda be scary- a lot of the Elder Race is wary of him. Grace on the other hand does not have the luxury of being scared of him. Instead she has bills to pay, mouths to feed, and no way to do it. I love that she tackles Khalil head on, and does not back down from the scary Djinn.

While this is a bit of a departure from the last three books, we do see some old favorites- Dragos, Pia, Carling and Rune. There is more of everyday situations and everyday hassles as well. Ultimately a great addition to a good series. One that has it all- romance, action, supernatural and bills.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote “I did not know I needed grace before I met you.”

Other People

Chloe- Grace’s niece
Max- Grace’s nephew

Waiting on Wednesday (10) Eyes on Me

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Look up the word “nerd” and you’ll find Lily Cooper’s picture. She’s got one goal: first stop valedictorian, next stop Harvard. Until a stint in the hospital from too much stress lands her in the last place a klutz like her ever expected to be: salsa dance lessons.

Look up the word “popular” and you’ll find Stone Torres’s picture. His life seems perfect—star of the football team, straight-A student, lots of friends. But his family is struggling to make ends meet, so if pitching in at the Torres dance studio helps, he’ll do it.

When Lily’s dad offers Stone extra cash to volunteer as Lily’s permanent dance partner, he can’t refuse. But with each dip and turn, each moment her hand is in his, his side job starts to feel all too real. But in dance, as in life, one wrong move and someone could get hurt.

Why am I waiting?

Nerd and Popular troupes are one of the troupes where I go all in.  I love it when the popular guy/girls fall for the nerd who isn't really a nerd but instead just super smart.

Teaser Tuesday (10) Oracle's Moon

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

Teaser One

Screw pretty. I’d rather be strong. Pretty fades over time. Strength gets you through the bad shit. And that matters, because sometimes there’s a lot of bad shit.

Oracle's Moon page 3

She has a point, beauty does fade and strength gets you through stuff. What stuff does she need help with though?

Teaser Two

“The Oracle is an underutilized resource,” said Carling. “A very Powerful one who has fallen somewhat out of fashion in the last century or so. It is a shame Grace has become so isolated.”

Oracle's Moon page 180

Hmm... an old favorite is back.  Hopefully, she isn't trying to use Grace.

Teaser Three

“You will call me,” he said. “For the rest of your life, you will call me. I don’t give a shit whether or not you’re in the mood. I don’t care if your cause is useless or if I am too late or if you can fix the whole damn problem by yourself or if you just get scared. You will call me, Grace. You will call me.”

Oracle's Moon page 238

For a heartless Djinn Khalil sure does have a lot of feelings for Grace.  Wonder what will happen to them?

Book Trailer Saturday (9) Four Dead Queens

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sigh...

A divided nation. Four Queens. A ruthless pickpocket. A noble messenger. And the murders that unite them.
Get in quick, get out quicker.

These are the words Keralie Corrington lives by as the preeminent dipper in the Concord, the central area uniting the four quadrants of Quadara. She steals under the guidance of her mentor Mackiel, who runs a black market selling their bounty to buyers desperate for what they can’t get in their own quarter. For in the nation of Quadara, each quarter is strictly divided from the other. Four queens rule together, one from each region:

Toria: the intellectual quarter that values education and ambition
Ludia: the pleasure quarter that values celebration, passion, and entertainment
Archia: the agricultural quarter that values simplicity and nature
Eonia: the futurist quarter that values technology, stoicism and harmonious community

When Keralie intercepts a comm disk coming from the House of Concord, what seems like a standard job goes horribly wrong. Upon watching the comm disks, Keralie sees all four queens murdered in four brutal ways. Hoping that discovering the intended recipient will reveal the culprit – information that is bound to be valuable bartering material with the palace – Keralie teams up with Varin Bollt, the Eonist messenger she stole from, to complete Varin’s original job and see where it takes them.
