Waiting on Wednesday (18) The Eighth Guardian

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!
Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Amanda Obermann. Code name Iris.

It’s Testing Day. The day that comes without warning, the day when all juniors and seniors at The Peel Academy undergo a series of intense physical and psychological tests to see if they’re ready to graduate and become government operatives. Amanda and her boyfriend Abe are top students, and they’ve just endured thirty-six hours of testing. But they’re juniors and don’t expect to graduate. That’ll happen next year, when they plan to join the CIA—together.

But when the graduates are announced, the results are shocking. Amanda has been chosen—the first junior in decades. And she receives the opportunity of a lifetime: to join a secret government organization called the Annum Guard and travel through time to change the course of history. But in order to become the Eighth Guardian in this exclusive group, Amanda must say good-bye to everything—her name, her family, and even Abe—forever.

Who is really behind the Annum Guard? And can she trust them with her life?

Why I am waiting?

Every once in a while I like to throw a sci-fi novel into my reading pile. There is a different pattern when reading them that occurs. It's nice to tease my brain. The time travel aspect is cool.

• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)

"Supernatural beings, like the kinds you read about n books- witches, vampires, werewolves-they're real. I'm one of them."

Chameleon by Kelly Oram Kindle location 227

The prochecy says nothing about saving supernaturals. It only says that I will battle Evil, and you are the most evil person I have ever met.

Chameleon by Kelly Oram Kindle Location 2993

A fun read- Dani has some backbone to her.  Although, I do feel really bad for one person in the book.

Review: Everlasting

Author Candace Knoebel

What if your destiny lay on the other side of death?

The annual Culling ceremony is a day every coming-of-age novice looks forward to within the Primeval Coven. It’s the start to being initiated into the Night Watchmen, humankind’s protectors, and it’s the long-awaited day when novices discover if they’re a Hunter or a Witch.

But this day is not a happy one for Faye Middleton. Not when she’s known her whole life that she’s a Defect and is about to face banishment in front of her fellow novices. She’s forced to attend the Culling with little hope for her future, but what she discovers about herself is far worse than she could’ve imagined. And far more dangerous.

Thrown into training and separated from her friends, Faye must learn to adjust. She struggles to find her place within the Coven, and with Jaxen Gramm, the darkly handsome and extremely unnerving man assigned to watch and protect her. Emotions run high, and when she discovers a deadly secret about him, her struggles deepen. As corruption within the Coven begins to unravel, Faye pieces together her role in saving the future of her people, and within Jaxen’s life...but will the truth save her, or be her undoing?

My Opinion

The Culling Ceremony- where you discovered two things: the name of your affinity partner and if you were a witch or a hunter. Very few are labeled a defect, those who are tossed out of their coven immediately.

Faye believed her whole life that she was a defect. Instead of dwelling on the injustice of the situation, she planed ahead applying to colleges and saying her goodbyes. The day of the ceremony her parents go missing. She must face the shame of being a defect without them.

Faye is wrong, instead of being a defect is an everlasting- a rarity among her people. She is one who could be both a witch and a hunter. One who needs to be protected. Protection comes in the form of one Jaxen Gramm, a Hunter. Too bad Jaxen already has an affinity partner, Jezibel because the chemistry between him and Faye is off the charts. Jaxen along with his brother and their witches are assigned to train Faye day and night, in secret.

Her parents are never far from her mind. Faye is determined to be the best witch/hunter so that she may one day find them. Unfortunately, a loved one is hurt and her secret is no longer protected. Jaxen may not be the only protection she needs now.

Everlasting was an entertaining read that keeps you wanting more. If your TBR pile is not too high, or you have a few hours free I highly recommend it.

My Rating 3 out of 4 stars

Favorite Quote “He said that it isn’t one’s destiny that defines a man, it’s how they choose to walk the path they’ve been given.”

Other People

Katie- Faye’s best friend, a witch
Mack- Elder in the coven
Gavin- Jaxen’s brother and a hunter
Cassie- Gavin’s witch

Spotlight- Reborn: Miranda’s Favorite Spells

CC Hunter stopped by to chat about everyone's favorite Shadow Falls witch, Miranda!

Miranda has had a lot to overcome, but she’s really come a long way since Kylie first met her. She’s gotten better and better at her spells. Oh sure, no one will ever let her forget when she turned Socks into a skunk. The poor cat still hides when he sees her. But she’s been working extra hard to learn new spells. She’s especially been practicing her protection spells. Being friends with Kylie and Della, she has a feeling they’re going to come in handy. And her latest spell she loves to cast is turning just about anything into chocolate. She’s even perfecting a spell to lite the fireplace and every candle in the cabin all at once. She wants to surprise Perry with it very soon, but she’s had some trouble with it. (Like setting her bedroom curtains on fire.) But she thinks she’s got it down now and is planning a very romantic evening with Perry, he just may want to wear something flame retardant.

You can see more of Miranda's special spells in Shadow Falls After Dark: Reborn, released May 20.

He gives the perfect first kiss.

“My first kiss...and it was everything I’d imagined it to be, with the exception of there being an audience for it. But it was hard to acknowledge them or their cheering and whistles. Flames scorched my already heated skin. Dez’s lips moved against mine, working the tight seam open. I gasped, wondering where in the world he’d learned to kiss like that. Jealousy flared like a beacon on the heels of that thought. Okay. I didn’t want to know how he’d learned.”

He is patient.

"And I am just saying that by the end of these seven days or maybe a week from then, or a month, you'll say yes." He cupped my cheek and leaned in, pressing his forehead to mine. "And I'll be waiting, No mater how long it takes."

He puts his gal before his duty.

"Are you going out with them?"

I should, but I think before we got distracted, you wanted to talk. And right now that's more important."

As his words sank in, I realized he was putting me before his duty. He had been for seven days. Catering to me. Playing babysitter. Following me around while I did a whole lot of nothing, and he hadn't complained once. Even enjoyed himself because he... he had been with me.

Dez made mistakes.  He is trying to atone for them in Bitter Sweet Love.  His reasons for his mistakes makes them all the more sweet.

Swoon Thursday (16) The Recruit

The fabulous girls over at YA Bound created this super HOT meme. Here's how it works.

From the book you’re currently reading, or one you just finished, tell us what made you SWOON. What got your heart pounding, your skin tingling, and your stomach fluttering.

Shout it out on Twitter with the hashtag #YABound, post it here in the comments, or grab the adorable button above and share it on your blog! I want to know & so do the gals at YABound!

"Do you really think I'm pretty Will?

No, I think your're gorgeous Hannah. I can't get enough of you.

He kissed her, exploring her mouth leisurely until she was moaning and shivering beneath him.

He kissed the tip of her nose.

The Recruit Kindle Location 1657

Before she could gain her feet, he reached out and yanked her into his lap. He cupped the back of her head and kissed her hungrily, forcing her mouth open so he could thrust his tongue into its warmth.

Hannah kissed him back, clutching his broad shoulders in her hands as she moaned into his mouth.

The Recruit Kindle Location 470

Will is one of my favorite Lycans. He is protective of Hannah but allows her to defend herself, stepping in only when she is hurt. He pushes her to the limit in training but it's for her own good.  The ending of this one left me biting at the bit for the next book in the series.

Waiting on Wednesday (17) The Falconer

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Heiress. Debutant. Murderer. A new generation of heroines has arrived.

Edinburgh, Scotland, 1844

Lady Aileana Kameron, the only daughter of the Marquess of Douglas, was destined for a life carefully planned around Edinburgh’s social events – right up until a faery killed her mother.

Now it’s the 1844 winter season and Aileana slaughters faeries in secret, in between the endless round of parties, tea and balls. Armed with modified percussion pistols and explosives, she sheds her aristocratic facade every night to go hunting. She’s determined to track down the faery who murdered her mother, and to destroy any who prey on humans in the city’s many dark alleyways.

But the balance between high society and her private war is a delicate one, and as the fae infiltrate the ballroom and Aileana’s father returns home, she has decisions to make. How much is she willing to lose – and just how far will Aileana go for revenge?

Why am I waiting?

This book seems interesting. Something different from what I normally read.

Anytime a book can give a shout out to World of Warcraft, you know I am going to go crazy for it. A great fun read.  At times I felt bad for Harper but other times I just wanted to shake her.

Spotlight- Reborn: Holiday & Burnett & Baby Make Three

CC Hunter stopped by to chat a little about our favorite married couple in The Shadow Falls After Dark series.

If you read my book Chosen at Nightfall, you’ll know that Holiday and Burnett are expecting a baby. To tell you the truth, Burnett is scared to death at the thought of a baby. Oh sure, he’s putting on a good front for Holiday and being supportive, but he’s got a lot of doubts about his ability as a dad. Oh you know and I know he’ll be great, but when Holiday drags him off to buy baby clothes he’s shaking inside. The clothes look so small! He’s a big strong vampire, so he’s all worried he might rip an arm off the little tyke while he’s trying to put on its onesie. But he tags along with Holiday while she gushes over strollers and high chairs, and receiving blankets. (And he doesn’t even know what those are for. They look like ordinary blankets to him. Who will the baby be receiving?) How can he be so scared when Holiday is so happy and excited? But she has her doubts, too, she’s just keeping them from Burnett. She’s afraid she’ll be too over whelmed by her baby’s feelings—or worse yet, what if she can’t read her baby’s feelings at all? How will she know what her baby wants? What kind of a mother will she be?

In short, Holiday and Burnett are being very normal expectant parents. And guess what? They have their baby in Reborn, out May 20th!

Book Boyfriend (15) Adrian Ivashkov

He knows how to give a compliment.

“My God, Sage. Your eyes. How have I never noticed them?"

That uncomfortable feeling was spreading over me again. "What about them?"

"The color," he breathed. "When you stand in the light. They're amazing... like molten gold. I could paint those..." He reached toward me but then pulled back. "They're beautiful. You're beautiful.”

“I tried to be a better person for her– but it was to impress her, to get her to want me. But when I’m around you, I want to be better because… well, because it feels right. Because I want to. You make me want to become something greater than myself. I want to excel. You inspire me in every act, every word, every glance. I look at you, and you’re like… like light made into flesh. […] You have no clue how beautiful you are or how brightly you shine.”
Richelle Mead, The Golden Lily

Not everything about me is cute."

"That's true, some things are cute. The rest are sexy. Astonishing, agonizingly sexy. It's a wonder I can get anything done at all, when all I ever think about is the way your lips taste or how your fingertips feel on my skin or how your legs are..."

"Adrian, shut up.”
Richelle Mead, The Fiery Heart

He can kiss.

“He reached out and pulled me to him, one hand on my waist and the other behind my neck. He tipped my head up and lowered his lips to mine. I closed my eyes and melted as my whole body was consumed in that kiss. I was nothing. I was everything. Chills, ran over my skin, and fire burned inside me. His body pressed closer to mine, and I wrapped my arms around his neck. His lips were warmer and softer than anything I could have ever imagined, yet fierce and powerful at the same time. Mine responded hungrily, and I tightened my hold on him. His fingers slid down the back of my neck, tracing its shape, and every place they touched was electric.”
Richelle Mead, The Golden Lily

And somehow, against all reason, we were kissing. I closed my eyes, and the world around me faded. The noise, the smoke . . . it was gone. All that mattered was the taste of his mouth, a mix of cloves and mints. There was a fierceness in his kiss, a desperation . . . and I answered, just as hungry for him. I didn’t stop him when he pulled me closer, so that I almost sat on his lap. I’d never been wrapped around someone’s body like that, and I was shocked at how eagerly mine responded. His arm went around my waist, pulling me onto him further, and his other hand slid up the back of my neck, getting entangled in my hair. He took his lips away from my mouth, gently trailing kisses down to my neck. I tipped my head back, gasping when the intensity returned to his mouth. There was an animalistic quality that sent shock waves through the rest of my body.”
Richelle Mead, The Indigo Spell

He can be serious.

“Maybe everyone else thinks your aversion to food is cute- but not me. I've watched you watch Jill. Here's some tough love: you will never, ever have her body. Ever. It's impossible. She's Moroi. You're human. That's biology. You have a great one, one that most humans would kill for- and you'd look even better if you put on a little weight. Five pounds would be a good start. Hide the ribs. Get a bigger bra size”
Richelle Mead, The Golden Lily

Adrian rarely got mad, and I wouldn’t quite say he was now. But he was definitely exasperated. “Are you seriously in this much self-denial, Sydney? Like do you actually believe yourself when you say you don’t feel anything? Especially after what’s been happening between us?”

“Nothing’s happening between us,” I said automatically. “Physical attraction isn’t the same as love. You of all people should know that.”

“Ouch,” he said. His expression hadn’t changed, but I saw hurt in his eyes. I’d wounded him. “Is that what bothers you? My past? That maybe I’m an expert in an area you aren’t?”

“One I’m sure you’d just love to educate me in. One more girl to add to your list of conquests.”

He was speechless for a few moments and then held up one finger. “First, I don’t have a list.” Another finger, “Second, if I did have a list, I could find someone a hell of lot less frustrating to add to it.” For the third finger, he leaned toward me. “And finally, I know that you know you’re no conquest, so don’t act like you seriously think that. You and I have been through too much together. We’re too close, too connected. I wasn’t that crazy on spirit when I said you’re my flame in the dark. We chase away the shadows around each other. Our backgrounds don’t matter. What we have is bigger than that. I love you, and beneath all that logic, calculation, and superstition, I know you love me too. Running away and fleeing all your problems isn’t going to change that. You’re just going to end up scared and confused.”

“I already feel that way,” I said quietly.

Richelle Mead, The Indigo Spell

I adore Adrian with Sydney.  I was never an Adrian and Rose shipper.  He just suits Sydney more.  He really does make a good boyfriend- hopefully he will make a fabulous one in the next book.

His lips are soft and warm, and his breath is hot and sweet, and I can't get enought of him. I can't find an end. His tongue finds mine, and a hand grips the fabric along my waist, his fingers half on my stomach, burning me to the core. He kisses me harder, more desperately, taking everything I'm offering, taking everything he needs.

You gotta give Jaxen some credit- he fought against this attraction with all that he had.  When he finally gave in though- dang can that boy love a gal.
