Waiting on Wednesday (9) Sherwood

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Robin of Locksley is dead.

When news comes that he's fallen in battle at the King's side in the Holy Land, Maid Marian doesn’t know how she’ll go on. Betrothed to Robin, she was free to be herself, to flout the stifling rules of traditional society and share an equal voice with her beloved when it came to caring for the people of her land.

Now Marian is alone, with no voice of her own. The people of Locksley, persecuted by the Sheriff of Nottingham, are doomed to live in poverty or else face death by hanging. The dreadful Guy of Gisborne, the Sherriff’s right hand, wishes to step into Robin’s shoes as Lord of Locksley, and Marian’s fiancĂ©. Society demands that she accept her fate, and watch helplessly as her people starve.

When Marian dons Robin's green cloak, and takes up his sword and bow, she never intended that anyone should mistake her for Robin, returned from the Holy Land as a vigilante. She never intended that the masked, cloaked figure she created should stand as a beacon of hope and justice to peasant and noble alike. She never intended to become a legend.

But all of Nottingham is crying out for a savior. So Marian must choose to make her own fate and become her own hero...

Robin Hood.

Why am I waiting?

The real question is how can you not be waiting?  Marian taking up the helm for Robin.  Robin being dead.  Why aren't you dying for this one to hit your hands? Growing up one of the best love songs of all times comes from a Robin Hood movie- thus began my own love affair with all things Robin.

Teaser One

So a whole weekend off? That was better than chocolate, a trashy reality TV marathon, and a fresh-batteries-in-the-vibrator orgasm all combined.

Fallon is speaking some hard truths right now about life.

Teaser Two

“Does she realize the innocent-me ploy hasn’t worked since the invention of social media? I like the tomboy without makeup thing she’s got going, though.”

Tomboy Kindle Location 415

More than one guy has told me they like the no make-up look.  I wish more woman can embrace it.  I do on the weekends, but when I have to be a professional I wear it.  Why is it considered more professional?

Teaser Three

Still, he couldn’t stop imagining the taste of the Chapstick on her full lips, the heat of her body pressed up against his, and the silky smoothness of her hair beneath his fingers. Her hand slid upward, curving around the back of his neck as her eyelids lowered.

Review: Ocean Light (Psy-Changeling Trinity #2)

Author Nalini Singh
Format e-book
Print Length 403 pages
Publisher Berkley
Published June 12, 2018

New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh dives beneath the surface of her Psy-Changeling world into a story of passionate devotion and selfless love...

Security specialist Bowen Knight has come back from the dead. But there's a ticking time bomb in his head: a chip implanted to block telepathic interference that could fail at any moment--taking his brain along with it. With no time to waste, he should be back on land helping the Human Alliance. Instead, he's at the bottom of the ocean, consumed with an enigmatic changeling...

Kaia Luna may have traded in science for being a chef, but she won't hide the facts of Bo's condition from him or herself. She's suffered too much loss in her life to fall prey to the dangerous charm of a human who is a dead man walking. And she carries a devastating secret Bo could never imagine...

But when Kaia is taken by those who mean her deadly harm, all bets are off. Bo will do anything to get her back--even if it means striking a devil's bargain and giving up his mind to the enemy...

My Opinion

Ocean Light picks up where Silver Silence ends (spoiler alert here) with everyone but a select few believing that Bowen Knight the head of the Human Alliance having died saving his sister. He isn’t dead…yet. He is however, hidden with a particular changeling family, Black Sea Clan. Their home hidden away from Psy, Changeling and humans a like. Few know how to locate it, even fewer outside of the Black Sea Clan are allowed in. When your clan’s base is an underwater deep sea station hiding it is not that hard. Bowen is there but for how long?

Some people would do anything to prevent others from taking over their brains, even say put an experimental chip in their brain that prevents the Psy from invading. That is what Bowen Knight did, after all he is the head of the Human Alliance. As the head, he has a responsibility to protect his people-a responsibility he takes serious. So before he can offer this to the others in his organization he lets them experiment on him first. The chip works, but it is unstable with a horrible side effect- death.

Members of the Black Sea Clan are missing, since the clan is made up of all the underground changeling who live in the Ocean it isn’t something that is unusual. However, it is becoming more and more noticeable. Something is wrong with Kaia’s home, with those that she loves. She doesn’t know what but does feel that Bo may be involved. Kaia was deeply affected by her parents’ deaths and so she feels pain of the missing more than most. Her changeling form is pretty unique as well and sought after by poachers.

These two weren’t a passionate take over kinda love. Yes, the mating bond was there and they both felt it. Due to their past though they were both hesitant to act on the mating bond. It didn’t help things that Bo was dying. Their romance was a fun, cute lighthearted story though (even with the intensity of the ticking time clock and the missing clan members). These two just fit together. Who knew that Bo could be so romantic? Who know that Kaia wanted to be romanced?

Ocean Light was a great addition to this spin off and I cannot see how anyone could pass on it. The Black Sea Territory opened up a whole new world for fans of this series and helpfully it will only get larger.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Fandom Friday (5) NCIS

Hey y’all, thanks so much for stopping by my FF!

Fandom Friday is a weekly meme that highlights, various fandoms. Typically those that I am definitely a part of, sometimes those that I am not a part of but do feel strongly should have a fandom surrounding them.

The month of February is going to be dedicated to television shows that I love.

Taken from the NBC website:

NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) is more than just an action drama. With liberal doses of humor, it’s a show that focuses on the sometimes complex and always amusing dynamics of a team forced to work together in high- stress situations. NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, a former Marine gunnery sergeant whose skills as an investigator are unmatched, leads this troupe of colorful personalities. Gibbs, a man of few words, only needs a look to explain it all.

Why I am a fan?

Gibbs- need I say more? If you think so than you haven’t watched an episode of this show. There is something about Gibbs figuring out the mystery, and getting the bad guy in the end that draws me in. Maybe it reminds me of a grown-up Scooby-Doo without the Scooby snacks although when Abby gets her Caf-Pow she is like Thelma on steroids. DeNizzo the player, Kate the serious one, McGee the MIT grad, Abby the eccentric scientist, Ducky and Palmer how could I not get sucked in? Then something horrible happens and Ziva David, the hottie with a great right hook, steps in? Some characters have stuck with us and some have departed yet all have left an impression.

The family like atmosphere, the director, the cases. Each week it was something new and yet the same thing again as well. There is a bad guy/woman, a crime is committed, Gibbs and his team is one the case. Ultimately, they get their criminal. Happy ending for all unless something bad happens cause well- something bad always happens at some time during the season to one of the members of our team. This show knows how to bring the feelings when they need to, and they know when to just get the bad guy too.

Review: Fated Mates (True Mates #1)

Author Alicia Montgomery
Format e-book
Print Length 233 pages
Publisher Eros Media
Published August 19, 2016

A secret Lycan world, hidden in plain sight. An outsider suddenly drawn in...She can't resist him, but he knows he can never have her...

Private investigator Alynna Chase is drawn in to the world of werewolf shifter clans when she encounters charming and sexy Lycan, Alex Westbrooke.

For centuries, werewolf shifters have moved among human society undetected, hiding in plain sight. The New York clan, hiding behind the powerful Fenrir Corporation, has ruled the East Coast for over two centuries, holding great power and position in both human and Lycan hierarchy.

Alynna suddenly finds herself in the center of this secretive society world when her true heritage is revealed – a full-blooded Lycan, born of the fabled True Mate pairing between her human mother and powerful Alpha father. Drawn deeper into their world, she feels a magnetic pull towards Alex.

As Alynna takes her place in Lycan high society, Alex knows he could never have her. He's a newcomer to New York and a member of the current Alpha’s security team, making her beyond his reach. But the attraction between them is too powerful, and he risks everything to have her.

However, a threat to the clan and Alynna’s life draws them closer together, and Alex will do anything to protect her, even risk getting too close and defying Lycan hierarchy.

With so many things at stake, will their affair end in disaster or have these two lonely souls found what they’ve been looking for?

My Opinion

Sometimes you find a hidden gem when you are in the library, bookstore or even clicking on an ad on Facebook. This is story was one such gem, so much so that I ended up binge reading the entire series in a week. Good thing the next book in the spin-off comes out in March.

Alynna was raised by her mother and bachelor private investigator uncle. When her mom passes away her uncle teaches her how to be an private investigator so that she has something to fall back on. Hot on the tail of a client’s husband who is cheat she ends up in a club that caters to a different type of cliental. There she runs into Alex, a Lycan who recently transferred to a the New York clan. Their attraction is instantly and it accidently reveals that Alynna is a Lycan as well. In steps the alpha of the New York Clan, who turns out to be her half-brother. Her birth a blessing from her parents being True Mates. Now she must take her place as his heir which puts her at risk and out of place.

Alynna is a “I can handle myself” kinda gal. For the most part, she can. There are times when Lycan politics gets in the way but for the most part she is a strong female lead that does not have to depend on someone to rescue her-from humans. As a newly discovered Lycan, she does need some help hence her brother gives her a security team. Emotionally, she struggles with several things and those struggles make the story more realistic.

Alex, as being newly accepted into the New York clan knows that he has to be on his best behavior with the Alpha’s sister. Yet, their chemistry is hard to deny. He has more to lose than Alynna does from acting on the attraction yet. He is protective of her, even to her brother which does get the notice of clan members who are close to the Alpha. I do hate how he pulls away from her and at times I wanted to shake him hard.

As a couple these two sizzle. Their moments alone together are hotter than hot. Their reasons for staying apart are all one sided and annoying. Good thing the Alynna agrees.

Fated Mates is a fun, fast paced shifter book that will bring with it an increase in heart rate, sighing and then a tightening of your lips as you get annoyed with Alex being well Alex. Regardless, you should take the time to read it if you like a series that is complete, intertwined with each other but could be stand-alone if you wanted it to be.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Waiting on Wednesday (8) From Breath and Ruin

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

In her YA debut, New York Times bestselling author Carrie Ann Ryan dives into a world with magic and sacrifice with the Elements of Five.

Five hundred years ago, the Maison Realm was shattered, divided into warring kingdoms of elemental Wielders with fate and truth shadowed and uncertain. Now, factions of both the light and dark venture into the human realm in search of the prophesied Spirit Priestess who is said to Wield the Elements of Five to bring the two fractured kingdoms together.

Lyric has no idea that there's a realm outside the human one she lives in. When fate and circumstances are pulled from her hands after an accident, she finds out that nothing is as it seems.

War is raging around her, and when Lyric realizes that they are searching for her, she must rely on those she once trusted as she trains: a boy who isn't who she thought, and a new realm of warriors who have come to protect her.

For the darkness is coming, and the Queen of ObscuritĂ© wants to ensure that the King of Lumière can't get his hands on Lyric. And the only way to ensure that is if Lyric herself is no more...no matter the cost to prophecy.

Why am I waiting?

I love the thought of magic making a comeback in the publishing world.  I have missed stories of witches ad elementals.  This one looks interesting with the warriors added in.  Will she bring the two kingdoms together?  Or tear them apart?

Teaser One

“I’m not a fan of men who hit women.” That dark voice slithered over her, almost emotionless except she thought she heard a soft thread of rage in the syllables.

Wolf's Mate page 27

Me neither. So you do what you have to do to those who hit her.

Teaser Two

“‘Knowledge is Power’ isn’t some motivational poster. It’s the truth. In my line of work, knowledge is life. I’ve known a lot of people who died because of ignorance. Not gonna have you be one of ’em.”

Wolf's Mate page 118

Can't argue with this. So great pep talk Declan.

Teaser Three

“You. Are. Mine. You run, I’ll chase you. You hide, I’ll find you. You even think about another man, I’ll kill him.”

Wolf's Mate page 271

Well then, that settles that.  I am guessing that Abby doesn't want to hid, run, or even think about another man right now.  Declan is well Declan.

Gotta hand it to Rosie, she is a straight shooter.  I wonder if Devlin can handle the shots though.

Teaser Two

“There is most definitely an us.”

I am guess that Devlin and Rosie have a few things to talk about.  Specially since one of them is in denial.

Review: Serpent’s Kiss

Author Thea Harrison
Format e-book
Print Length 336 pages
Publisher Berkley Sensation
Published October, 4, 2011

In the latest Novel of the Elder Races, a Queen on the brink of sanity has no one to rely on except the Wyr warrior whose conviction is every bit as strong as his passion.

In order to save his friend's life, Wyr sentinel Rune Ainissesthai made a bargain with Vampyre Queen Carling—without knowing what she would ask from him in return. But when Rune attempts to make good on his debt, he finds a woman on the edge.

Recently, Carling's Power has become erratic, forcing her followers to flee in fear. Despite the danger, Rune is drawn to the ailing Queen and decides to help her find a cure for the serpent's kiss—the vampyric disease that's killing her.

With their desire for each other escalating just as quickly as Carling's instability spirals out of control, the sentinel and the Queen will have to rely on each other if they have any hope of surviving the serpent's kiss.

My Opinion

Due to the events of Storm’s Heart, Rune now owes a debt to Carling, the vampire elder. So he takes a leave of absence from working as a sentinel for Drago and goes to her island. Here he finds that Carling has basically been banished to the island due to a vampire disease. She has been looking for a cure, but has given up. Rune decides that that is not an option.

Carling was interesting in that she came as a complete surprise. Seen by the world as unbending, cold, manipulative and on the verge of being evil internally she is none of those things. Thousands of years old we get to see into her past quite a bit, she was a sorcerer before a vampire. Finding out what occurred in those years was pretty cool. Here is a strong, knowledgeable lady who can’t figure out her how to cure her disease. She is meticulous, a scientist, a researcher and she didn’t give up. It was awesome that she didn’t depend on anyone else to help her solve the problem for over three hundred years.

Rune for the first two books, was the Beta to Dragos Alpha. He was the one to use comic relief, he was the Enforcer, funny and strong. Here he is just determined- it was as if the powerful Gryphon turned into a puppy dog. I really don’t get why he didn’t trust his friends if he had known them for centuries. I guess it was that his

The world building is still on point. Here we get a lot of Egyptian mythology, mysteries, some time travel and of course Djinn. Yeah that is what made the book for me. When Khalil was introduced, I was hooked. Getting glimpses of him was why I continued because when I say that it was a bit slower, I mean snail pace at some points. The romance was steady, strong and mutual. The action and danger didn’t really happen for me until the end. By then I was more concerned with the people that were introduced than with the two main characters. The romance part was already settled, so there was nothing else to do but wait for the big baddie to show up. Then it was race to the Oracle, who I ended up wanting to more about like now not later. Plus, I was annoyed how Rune and Dragos ended up in the end. I mean they are suppose to be besties so what happen here?

I liked this one, but it didn’t wow me like the previous. I didn’t care if I was interrupted by life while reading it. It was a good book, and sometimes that is all you need.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sigh...

I had a sister, once…

In a world ruled by fierce warrior queens, a grand empire was built upon the backs of Phoenix Riders—legendary heroes who soared through the sky on wings of fire—until a war between two sisters ripped it all apart.

I promised her the throne would not come between us.

Sixteen years later, Veronyka is a war orphan who dreams of becoming a Phoenix Rider from the stories of old. After a shocking betrayal from her controlling sister, Veronyka strikes out alone to find the Riders—even if that means disguising herself as a boy to join their ranks.

But it is a fact of life that one must kill or be killed. Rule or be ruled.

Just as Veronyka finally feels like she belongs, her sister turns up and reveals a tangled web of lies between them that will change everything. And meanwhile, the new empire has learned of the Riders’ return and intends to destroy them once and for all.

Sometimes the title of queen is given. Sometimes it must be taken.

Fandom Friday (6) Battlestar Galactica

Hey y’all, thanks so much for stopping by my FF!

Fandom Friday is a weekly meme that highlights, various fandoms.  Typically those that I am definitely a part of, sometimes those that I am not a part of but do feel strongly should have a fandom surrounding them.

Taken from SYFY:
Considered by many to be one of the best television series ever made, Battlestar Galactica picks up just as Cylons- intelligent robots designed by humankind- commit mass genocide against humanity.  Only Battlestar Galactica, the last of the Colonial Fleet, survives the attack.  Driven by prophetic visions and political necessity, the Galactica travels through uncharted space in hopes of finding the mythical, lost 13th colony- Earth.

Why I am a fan?

I had never heard of the first Battlestar Galactica when I started watching the new one.  With a dark start, I couldn’t help but follow a show that hit on many modern day issues while in space.  I loved that the main character was a female- which was rare in 2004 as well as a strong female cast.  Most sci-fi shows are male dominate, while the male cast of Battlestar Galactica were definitely Alpha males, they did not seem to mind allowing their female shipmates a chance to shine.  I don’t think they really had a choice as Starbuck, Grace and Six all were strong female leads.  Due to the several different storylines for this ensemble cast, I couldn’t help but get caught up in what was going on with each character every week.

Review: Spartan Promise

Author Jennifer Estep
Format e-book
Print Length 293 pages
Publisher self
Published Jan. 15, 2019

Hunting for the bad guys has never been so dangerous . . .

My name is Rory Forseti, and I attend the Colorado branch of Mythos Academy, a school of warrior kids, powerful artifacts, and mythological monsters.

I’m a student, a fierce Spartan warrior, and a member of Team Midgard, a group of kids and adults tasked with stopping the evil Reapers of Chaos. There is one Reaper I’m determined to hunt down above all others: Covington, the man who murdered my parents.

So when the Midgard gets a tip that Covington is going to try to steal a dangerous artifact, I’m ready to fight. But the situation is far more complicated than it seems, and the Reapers aren’t my only enemies.

I’ll have to use all my Spartan strength and skills to survive this. And even then, it might be my blood that gets spilled . . .

My Opinion

Spartan Heart is the second book in this spin-off series. Rory is still the champion of the Goddess Sigyn, although due to her parents past she wonders for how long. Rory is officially on Team Midgard. Their ultimate task is to stop Covington, the former librarian at this academy who is the leader for Reapers of Chaos. Apparently, his is looking for some artifacts that have been infused with god/goddess power. Team Midgard is going to try to stop him, before he gains too much power.

After the events of book one, Rory has a support team. She even has friends, those that will stick with her. Zoe is now her best friend and their relationship is one of support and love. Rory really needs that type of friendship after all she has been through. Babs, her ever-loving talking sword, is the best comic relief ever. Rory has always been confident in her fight skills, she is a Spartan after all. Relationships on the other hand have taken a beaten thanks to what her parents put her through. So she is content for admiring Ian from afar for now- hence the romance is a slow burn for sure. They are also in what is essentially a high school, so slow burn is perfect. Ian is equally as awkward with Rory, having been betrayed by one who he admires. Regardless of that each scene that has both of them in it is adorable.

A fast paced action filled adventure that will entertain you from start to finish. Some questions will be answered. Some answers will lead to more questions. Regardless being back in the Mythos world is comforting and amazing. The world building that began in the first series continues to be enriched with the spin-off. I cannot wait to see what Rory and Team Midgard face next.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Waiting on Wednesday (6) Prince Charming

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Meet Daisy Winters. She's an offbeat sixteen-year-old Floridian with mermaid-red hair, a part time job at a bootleg Walmart, and a perfect older sister who's nearly engaged to the Crown Prince of Scotland. Daisy has no desire to live in the spotlight, but relentless tabloid attention forces her join Ellie at the relative seclusion of the castle across the pond.

While the dashing young Miles has been appointed to teach Daisy the ropes of being regal, the prince's roguish younger brother kicks up scandal wherever he goes, and tries his best to take Daisy along for the ride. The crown--and the intriguing Miles--might be trying to make Daisy into a lady . . . but Daisy may just rewrite the royal rulebook to suit herself.

With all the cover of the royal weddings and then the royal baby watch- how can I not be waiting on this?  The royal families have a lot of pressure on them when out in public and it looks like Daisy may be what every royal family needs.
