Book Trailer Saturday (26) Moonlight Seduction

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sight...

The de Vincent brothers are back—and so is the intrigue that surrounds them—in New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s sizzling new novel...

Nicolette Bresson never thought she’d return to the de Vincents’ bayou compound. It’s where her parents work, where Nikki grew up... and where she got her heart broken by Gabriel de Vincent himself. Yet here she is, filling in for her sick mother. Avoiding Gabe should be easy, especially when so much of Nikki’s time is spent trying not to be stabbed in the back by the malicious hangers-on who frequent the mansion. But escaping memories of Gabe, much less his smoking-hot presence, is harder than expected—especially since he seems determined to be in Nikki’s space as much as possible.

Gabriel spent years beating himself up over his last encounter with Nikki. He’d wanted her then, but for reasons that were bad for both of them. Things have now changed. Gabe sees more than a girl he’s known forever; he sees a smart, talented, and heartbreakingly beautiful woman... one who’s being stalked from the shadows. Now, Gabe will do anything to keep Nikki safe—and to stop the de Vincent curse from striking again.

“How do you look like that when you eat so much of this? It can’t just be the running.” His eyes narrowed, and a sly gleam lit his eyes. “Look like what?” She picked up her tumbler and drank before answering. “Like you own shares in Gold’s Gym.” The water bubbled around her, popping and spitting. “Like you’ve been gifted with Greek god genes. Like you could pose for one of my covers.”

Review: The Professor Woos the Witch

Author Kristen Painter
Format e-book
Print Length 370 pages
Publisher Sugar Skull Books
Published October 8, 2015

Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year. The tourists think it's all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better.

Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs, fur, and all.

Pandora Williams is Nocturne Falls’ most successful real estate agent. And least successful witch. Her magic never has the intended outcome, but she’s learned to live with that. Mostly. Yes, it sucks, but what can she do? Then a hot new neighbor shows up and suddenly her magic works. Very cool, but very suspect. Especially since he’s a total non-believer.

Cole Van Zant likes practicality and absolutes. Things he can see and touch. So not magic. But when his teenage daughter insists she’s a witch—and they’re now living in a town that celebrates Halloween every day—he needs help. Of the witchy variety. Thankfully, his sexy neighbor buys into all that hocus pocus.

Enlisting her help seems like a great idea until spending time together reveals a supernatural surprise about who Cole really is. A secret even he didn’t know. Could Pandora and Cole really be meant for one another or is their attraction too much to believe?

My Opinion

I am back at Nocturne Falls, where the supers can hang out like regular people. The humans can hang out like supers. Everyone just gets a long, granted the humans have no clue that they are surrounded by people that go bump in the night.

Pandora is a witch who knows not to rely on her magic. It doesn’t work really well but what she does have on her is her wits. She can sell pretty much any house on the market so when there is a new tenant in the Pilcher Manor all she has to do is work her magic or lack there of. Pandora is a spunky witch that is completely confident in all areas of her life. It was nice and refreshing to see a strong female character.

Cole is a non-believer which is fine, as long as you aren’t a jerk about it. Too bad sometimes he is a total jerk about it. His daughter thinks she is a witch (her bio mom told her she was) and instead of getting her witchy type help he just denies all magic. Granted he was raised to think all magic doesn’t exist. Too bad he’s house is haunted, his daughter is a witch and well he is something with a side of extra as well. The best thing about him is his daughter who steals the scenes every time she is on the page.

Pandora and Cole together makes perfect sense once you see them interact a few times. She likes things safe and orderly so does he. He knows just what his plans in life are, she is happy with her lot in life. So life decides to throw them together a lot and see what happens.

A romantic comedy that will make you which is was fall outside with the crisp air and the red/orange leaves instead of 100 degrees with humidity. Previous characters from the other books in the series do show up but this can be read as a stand-alone.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

Waiting on Wednesday (25) The Supervillian and Me

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

As witty as it is heartpounding, this fresh take on the beloved superhero genre is all about finding your own way to shine even when it seems everyone else around you is, well... super.

Never trust a guy in spandex.

In Abby Hamilton’s world, superheroes do more than just stop crime and save cats stuck in trees—they also drink milk straight from the carton and hog the television remote. Abby’s older brother moonlights as the famous Red Comet, but without powers of her own, following in his footsteps has never crossed her mind.

That is, until the city’s newest vigilante comes bursting into her life.

After saving Abby from an attempted mugging, Morriston’s fledgling supervillain Iron Phantom convinces her that he’s not as evil as everyone says, and that their city is under a vicious new threat. As Abby follows him deeper into their city’s darkest secrets, she comes to learn that heroes can’t always be trusted, and sometimes it’s the good guys who wear black.

Chosen by readers like you for Macmillan's young adult imprint Swoon Reads, The Supervillain and Me is a hilarious, sweet, and action-packed novel by debut author Danielle Banas that proves no one is perfect, not even superheroes.

Why am I waiting?

This one just seems like a fun read and lets be real who didn’t have a slight crush on Loki? Maybe the supervillain in this book will be a little bit of like Loki.

“Cursing some monster with her wicked ways and amoral behavior, instead of us and our good name.” Faith tried not to find that funny. Foolish Alpha, I know I am not. I am weak and afraid. But I also cannot bear the idea of her dancing with all those other men without me there to keep her safe. She might be strong, but I think, perhaps, she has already burdened herself with too much, to be so tough so young.

"Yes.  You're so very much my kind of guy."  She closed her eyes and shivered.  "As much as someone who doesn't date has a kind of guy."  She took a sip of wine before continuing “Look, since we’re laying things out, I like you a lot. And yes, I really like what you do for my magic, but I’ve lived my entire life with broken gifts. I was prepared to live the rest of it that way too. Review: My Fake Valentine

Author Kellie McAllen
Format e-book
Print Length 205 pages
Publisher Lounge Chair Literature
Published Jan.27, 2018

Mia's star desperately needs polishing. Can a fake relationship make her shine?

Mia Black “aka” Black Sheep, is the slightly geeky, kind of smart, but otherwise lusterless middle daughter of a family full of shining stars. Literally, like, movie stars.

Austin is the super cute, uber-popular, basketball phenom whose athletic career just took a nosedive when his failing grades landed him in academic probation. Basically Mia’s polar opposite.

When Austin impulsively kisses Mia in the hallway in front of everyone, pretending he’s moved on from the girl who just dumped him, he begs Mia to play along and promises he’ll make it worth her while. Mia knows her reputation could use some help, and Austin is the perfect guy to elevate her from not to hot. All she has to do is help him get his grades up, and Austin will pretend to be madly in love with her. Sounds like a win-win for both of them, right?

Fake it till you make it, the saying goes, and Mia and Austin soon realize that opposites do attract. But can their relationship, and their reputations, survive when the whole school finds out they were only faking?

If you like fun and flirty teen contemporary romance books by authors such as Kelly Oram, Jessica Park, Amy Sparling, or Nicola Yoon, you'll love My Fake Valentine!

My Opinion

I am just going to put it all out there- I didn’t like this one.

Mia is the middle child with complete middle child syndrome. Wooow is me, I am forgotten, my sister and brother outshine me. She has a huge birthmark on her face and this is what causes her not to want to shine? This is what causes her to hide, then she gets tired of hiding and so propositions a guy she doesn’t know but who kissed her at school anyway? I tutor you, you pretend to like me, I get popular. Umm her family alone could have done that.  Mia is way too insecure for me, not even that, it is more that she has the lowest self esteem possible.

Austin is a jerk. That is the best way to put it. Umm… grabbing a random gal and kissing her is never a smart move. Neither is not doing your homework for that matter. Like seriously, who is this guy and why does Mia like him? Oh wait, to make her popular that is why.

The best thing about this story was Kerri, Mia’s bestie and you know what Mia treats her like crap. I would have walked away from her if I were her friend.

The blurb says that if you like Kelly Oram you will love this one which is why I one-clicked it. This is a hard no for me.

There are a lot of individuals for that liked this one. There are links to two of their reviews:

Review: Burning Bright

Author
Chris Cannon
Format e-ARC
Print Length 405 pages
Publisher Entangled Publishing, LLC (Teen)
Published June 4, 2018

Bryn is back for her senior year at the Institute for Excellence, also known as shape-shifting dragon school. She isn’t sure which is scarier, the life-force sucking dragons stalking campus or the fact that she’s officially betrothed to Jaxon, a guy who will never love her. Not that she could ever love him, either… That’s just ridiculous.

Senior year should be fun. Her parents are alive, she’s finally fitting in, and she’s learning how to be a Medic. But what’s with Jaxon giving her strange looks? He runs hot and cold, and he doesn’t even have the excuse of being a hybrid fire-and-ice-breathing dragon like her. One minute they’re having a great time and the next, she wants to blast a fireball at his head. The marriage contract of doom looms over them--unless this match not made in heaven kindles a flame…

My Opinion

This is a bittersweet read for me, as it is the last book in the series about a girl who finds out that she is not quite human but in fact a dragon shifter. She loses her parents and gains grandparents that she never knew she had and now she must master the ins and outs of her new society. Along the way she gains friends, finds and loses love as well as ends up in an arranged marriage. When we last left Bryn her knight was lost to her and Jaxon’s ex had died. This book is about finding their new normal and accepting their fate.

Bryn is still as real as can be. She does what she says and says what she does. Her feisty positive can do attitude is just what snobby Jaxon never knew he needed. Just like his follow the rules and try not to bend attitude is just what she needs to curb her impulsive ways. They really do suit each other if only they would realize it.

A school year surrounded in suspense, why are others falling ill? Who attacked Bryn? What is up with the new rules in town? Why can’t she hang out with her parents? What is up with Jaxon?

This one brings a rollercoaster of emotion, as it should with the events of the previous book in the series. I like that the author does not gloss over what they characters are feeling. I love that Ivy and Clint are still there for her as a gal just needs her besties when times are gray and let’s be real. Bryn’s world has been gray since she stepped into it. The best part is when Jaxon makes a social mistake and her grandma is all over it.

Burning Bright wraps up the series nicely. I recommend this one for anyone who is a lover of shifters, especially dragon shifters. I really wish this series wasn’t ending so soon after it began. Maybe just maybe Chris Cannon could write another story about another of the hybrids, or an orange dragon or a green dragon with say a fake wing? One can only hope…

5 out of 5 stars

Review: The Werewolf Meets his Match

Author

Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town where Halloween is celebrated 365 days a year. The tourists think it's all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better. Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs and all.

Getting arrested wasn’t on werewolf Ivy Kincaid’s agenda when she arrived in Nocturne Falls, but her life rarely goes according to plan. The upside of spending the night in the local lock-up is finding a hotel room is no longer a worry...but the downside is the man she’s come to marry will get his first impression of her behind bars. Not exactly the way Ivy was hoping to meet her pack's sworn enemy...aka her fiancé.

Sheriff (and werewolf) Hank Merrow is the alpha's heir. Everything he's ever done, from becoming an Army Ranger to serving in law enforcement, has been in preparation for the day he’ll take over. Getting married to cement a shaky truce is no different. Hank will do his duty, even if it means shackling himself to a woman he has no intention of liking, let alone loving.

But Ivy is nothing like Hank expected. As feisty as she is beautiful, she's as determined as he is to make a go of marriage for the sake of peace between their packs. The trouble is, Ivy has secrets that could destroy everything Hank holds dear...including his newfound love for her.

My Opinion

**This is the second book in the series; it can be read out of order as each story is stand alone.**

It was nice to return to Nocturne Falls, where the supers can hang out like regular people. The humans can hang out like supers. Everyone just gets a long, granted the humans have no clue that they are surrounded by people that go bump in the night.

Ivy and Hank are in rival packs with both of them children of alpha’s. As such they know that they may have an arranged marriage one day. When the Merrow pack ends up owing the Kincaid pack a favor it is called in, they must marry one of their son to Kincaid’s daughter. How does Hank meet his new fiancé? Well, in jail but it totally was worth it (trust me on this one, I would have ended up in jail too).

Ivy’s family are a bunch as jerks. A harsher word than jerk probably needs to be said here. She needs to get out and this is her way out. You know that saying better the devil you know? Well, in this case it does not apply. Anyone has to be better than her daddy dearest. The secret she is keeping is not a bad one and in her position, I get why she is keeping it. I puffy heart adore Hank’s reaction to the secret and his quick action.

Hank, wow what a sweet alpha male. Yeah, I said it… he is an alpha wolf and he is still sweet. Most tend to be rude or pricks but not Hank. His entire family is just pretty awesome. They rally together for the good of the family and family/pack always comes first.

This is a sweet romance story, with a bit of paranormal in the mix. The paranormal is just a sprinkling though so if you were expecting more on that side of things you will be miss out. If you believe that there could be mated pairs out there than the quickness of their relationship will not bother you. Granted they had to marry within three days so it had to be a bit quick.

Coming back to Nocturne Falls is like coming home. The story was quick, cute and fun. The characters sweet with a bit of spice added to it. Overall, a good read on a summer day where the sun is trapped behind rain clouds.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

Review: Hex

Author Alyxandra Harvey
Format e-book
Print Length 170 pages
Publisher self
Published Feb. 26, 2018

Blood magic. Zombies. Homework. You know, the usual.

Mackenzie Shelley knows there are things that go bump in the night.
Her Aunt Bree has taken them all over the country seeking them out; but when they finally settle in the tiny mountain town of Violet Hill, Bree disappears.

When Parker and Sierra's father also goes missing, Sierra works blood magic to find him. She also accidentally wakes a hundred year old Hoodoo curse that will reveal family secrets...and wake the dead.
Mac prefers to work alone, but that’s no longer an option.
She has to defeat zombies, ghosts, and pass her midterms. Just another day in Violet Hill.

My Opinion

Mackenzie and her aunt have come home to Violet Hill, only Mackenize doesn’t realize that it is home. They are supernatural hunters and typically keep to themselves. Mackenize is beginning to get worried, her aunt hasn’t come home and mirrors are breaking. Parker randomly shows up, with orders to protect her from his dad (they are closet hunters) how happen to have a warded house. When they get there they find out that Sierra has performed a spell to find their dad that went terribly wrong. Now not only do they have to find their parental units, they have to fight off zombies, a few ghost- one with a few magic tricks.

Mackenzie is a kick-butts-take-names-later kinda chick. So color her surprised that her family comes from Violet Hill. She pretty much stands up for what she believes in and is a straight shooter, which was refreshing. She is also takes things in stride, which helps with how supernatural her life is about to get.

Parker is just trying to do the right thing. This really is a case of when a good guy gets left in charge. He is pretty solid, with a protective side. He tries to let his sister handle things but you can tell that he wants to step in, a lot. He is not sure what his dad got them into but he is confident that Mac and him will figure it out.

This one is told by three points of view- Mackenzie, Parker and Sierra. The jumping back and forth was not as hard as it has been in the past. All three characters have distinctive voices and personalities and the story is told in real time so that helped.

I am hoping that this is the start of a new series for Alyxandra Harvey. I loved two of her other series- The Drake Chronicles and The Lovegrove Legacy.  I really hate the cover of this book, so please try not to judge it by the cover.

This is a fast read, with a lot of action so your blood will be a pumping. If you like zombies, mystery and a pinch of witches than this is the book for you.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Review: Hooked

Author Christina Phillips
Format e-book
Print Length 185 pages
Publisher Entangled Publishing LLC
Published February 6, 2017

Zach…

I like my sex dirty and disposable. I'm not into commitment or chicks who want more than one night. My brothers and club come first, second and last. Until she walks into my life. Classy, rich and so out of my league it's crazy. A week together should get her out of my system, but this good girl is so bad when we're all alone and I can't get enough of her. I don't do forever, but she's hooked me so bad I don't ever want to let her go. Except there's no way a princess can live in my world and I sure as hell won't live in hers...

My Opinion

***This one is very adult though so I do not recommend it for ages under 18.***

Grace just left her fiancé, who happens to work with her in her parents business. As she is making her great escape in her Mercedes, it breaks down. Across the street from Odin’s a motorcycle bar on the wrong sides of the tracks. Zach sees Grace walking in and assumes she is slumming it, only she’s not and once he figures that out, it is game over for both of them.

Grace is sweet, naïve but sweet. She needs to stand up for herself a whole lot more than what she does but hey to each their own. Zach is rough and ready to rumble. They make a cute couple but I am not sure that I am buying it. What happens when the insta-lust wears off? Like in a week or two? I guess I just needed the book to last a little longer, like a few months to see if they are both the one for each other.

If you enjoy books with a couple from different sides of the track than this is a tale for you. This one is a fast read and the pages are HOT so if you need that in your life than by all means this is the book for you. It is marketed like a MC book but honestly, there is little MC in it. Which I guess is where a lot of my disappointment comes from.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars
