Waiting on Wednesday (31) Unearthed

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spinewhich spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Fae was once a flourishing paradise. Until Death turned greedy and destroyed it, targeting the creatures who inhabited it. Those who survived escaped to Earth’s realm, but Death wasn’t far behind . . .

Olivia Finn is just another pixie trying to blend in among humans and hide from the death hounds who devoured her family. Clinging to the talisman that keeps her veiled from those who hunt her, she believes she is safe. . .. Until Death finds her and discovers she’s immune to its grip.

Now that Olivia’s power is unearthed, she is sought by Fae who see her as their savior and stalked by dark entities compelled to destroy her. Can she trust the King of the Dead who has sworn to train and protect her? Or should she obey her instincts that warn he desires more?

Olivia can no longer hide from Death. To survive, she must seek it.

Why am I waiting?

Umm... so I tend to avoid Fae stories, they aren't my favorite.  That being said... Cecy Robson is one of my favorite authors.  So yeah, this one is already on pre-order.

Book Trailer Saturday (30) House of Salt and Sorrows

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sigh...

In a manor by the sea, twelve sisters are cursed.

Annaleigh lives a sheltered life at Highmoor, a manor by the sea, with her sisters, their father, and stepmother. Once they were twelve, but loneliness fills the grand halls now that four of the girls' lives have been cut short. Each death was more tragic than the last—the plague, a plummeting fall, a drowning, a slippery plunge—and there are whispers throughout the surrounding villages that the family is cursed by the gods.

Disturbed by a series of ghostly visions, Annaleigh becomes increasingly suspicious that the deaths were no accidents. Her sisters have been sneaking out every night to attend glittering balls, dancing until dawn in silk gowns and shimmering slippers, and Annaleigh isn't sure whether to try to stop them or to join their forbidden trysts. Because who—or what—are they really dancing with?

When Annaleigh's involvement with a mysterious stranger who has secrets of his own intensifies, it's a race to unravel the darkness that has fallen over her family—before it claims her next.

Wizards Unite Book Tag

I saw this book tag over at The Happy Bibliophile and just knew I had to do it. Since this game was released, I have played it daily. My children play it with me- they want me to beat daddy (have a higher level than him). If you don't have it and you are a Harry Potter fan, you need to download it, so much fun! The images all come from The Happy Bibliophile as they are spot on- plus taking them out would take away from the book tag.

This is literary the best re-telling of Pride and Prejudice I have read. So much so that it kick started a two week long Pride and Prejudice binge watching marathon, starting with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, followed by the BBC Pride and Prejudice and ending with watching the Kiera Knightley Pride and Prejudice (twice).

I contemplated a job with the FBI for about a minute or two after reading this one. Then I realized that sine I wasn't a teenager it would probably be way harder than what the characters went through. So I decided I liked my life as a teacher.

Another place, how about outter space? This book is apace opera with a slight Firefly feel to it that captures the imagination from the first paragraph.

I loved this series. I read it in real time instead of binge reading it once it was released. I remember counting down the days until the next one came out. I even asked my brother to go to an author tour in his city to get an autograph by Richelle Mead. He thought it was funny that it the author of two vampire series was signing in a church.

Light, sweet read that goes great with a steaming cup of hot chocolate, a blanket and your sweetheart to lean on. I adored this book so much that once I was finished reading it, I sighed then read it again.

Nothing gets more mythical than a series on well mystical gods and goddesses.

I am so going with the Clave on this one. I understand the purpose of them but dang all their rules and their nastiness. They are rude elitist that needs to be brought down a notch.

This book taught me how to make a hummingbird cake. It also taught me what a hummingbird cake is. Having grown up in the south, I have never heard of this famous southern cake before. I ewas appalled- my only rational is that I was raised by Yankees in the south.

This book will seriously have you examining our way of life. Society’s treatment of overweight people, mass media’s influence on us and of course the role of government are get looked at through a different lenses.

Dystopia Science Fiction is not usually my cup of tea but Richelle Mead wrote it so I gave it a try and boy am I glad I did. I loved this series and was so disappointed when the publishers backed out of book three.

Review: Parental Guidance

Author Avery Flynn
Format e-book
Print Length 221 pages
Publisher Entangled: Amara
Published June 17, 2019

All I want is to play hockey on the Ice Knights, instead, I’m in a viral video for all the wrong reasons and my mom—yes, my mom—has taken over my dating apps. Then, when I think it can’t get any worse, the fates deliver Zara Ambrose, a five-feet-nothing redhead with more freckles than inches and who’d rather be anywhere other than on a date with me.

Now a bet with her friends and my PR nightmare have us both stuck in this go-on-five-dates-with-the-same-person hell situation. But if we band together, we can get the whole thing over with and go on with our lives. It’s perfect! No feelings. No future. No fuc— *ahem* fun. No naked fun.

What could go wrong? Nothing—as long as I remember the rules. Don’t notice the way she looks in a dress. Don’t react when she does that little shivery sigh thing whenever we touch. Don’t think about the fact that she’s never had a toe-curling orgasm that wasn’t self-delivered and just how badly I want to change that.

Five dates—that’s it—and then we go our separate ways. At least, that was the plan..

My Opinion

Caleb knows he is in trouble, a leaked video of him standing by allowing others to bad mouth ladies has hurt his image, more importantly the image of his team, The Ice Knights. Lucy, the Ice Knights, Public Relations guru suggests to the coach and Caleb that a reality tv show of him dating someone his momma picks out would be just the thing. Caleb doesn’t want to do it but he takes one for the team, it helps that his momma is a famous hockey coach and she walked into the meeting telling him to man up. Gemma, Zara’s bestie wants her to find her happily ever after. Since Zara rarely goes on dates, she suggest applying to dating service-one that would help out Zara’s daddy in the process. He is an aspiring actor after all. Five dates here they come!

Zara is a no bars, I am not holding back kinda gal. It is refreshing, it is honest and it is at times brutal. She list rules right up front, and the third being my favorite of all time. I knew that this gal was my soul sister. She likes order, a schedule, and her life just as it is. I can respect that, she doesn’t feel like it is missing anything. Well, except one thing but that is totally not her fault and if I go into details than it will be a spoiler.

Caleb, as the senior player on the video was supposed to step up and tell his teammates to shut up. He didn’t yet I am not so sure that it warranted such a reaction from management that it got. He learns that he has to be a voice, and advocate not just for those that aren’t around but also for himself. He grows a lot in this book and I like it.

The dates are a lot of fun. These two are made for each other, and Anchovy couldn’t be happier. He does sometimes steal the show. You will see what I mean. They are supposed to go on five dates, will they? Honestly, read it- you will laugh like I did.

If you are looking for a lighthearted, fun yet at times very realistic look at romance this is the book for you. I laughed, I sighed, and I even may have said oh my. There is a teaser for the next book at the end and I am totally pre-ordering it.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote Only sociopaths hated mashed potatoes.

Waiting on Wednesday (30) Rage

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Princess or adventurer.

Duty or freedom.

Her Kingdom or the Stormhunter she loves.

If Aurora knows anything, it's that choices have consequences. To set things right, she joins a growing revolution on the streets of Pavan.

In disguise as the rebel Roar, she puts her knowledge of the palace to use to aid the rebellion. But the Rage season is at its peak and not a day passes without the skies raining down destruction. Yet these storms are different—they churn with darkness, and attack with a will that’s desperate and violent.

This feels like more than rage.

It feels like war.

Why am I waiting?

I am going through a huge fantasy binge lately. The first book was really good. I want to see if well who I am shipping actually happens. Plus this cover is just amazing.

Teaser Tuesday (30) Perfekt Control

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers.

Teaser One

“Henrik, you’re the most efficient assassin in the corps at the moment, and Brynn, for whatever reason, you temper his destructive energy with an impulse for creation.  We don't know who's taken Freya or why, so innovation is going to be the name of the game on this one."

Perfekt Control page 56

She helps with his temper and his bad energy?  This could mean that he does love her-just saying.

Teaser Two

“Henrik knows the rules.” Tyr started up the stairs again. Now he spoke over his shoulder. “But I’ll tell you this. He hasn’t been on a single date with anyone since you showed up on our team.”

Perfekt Control page 206

Two years without a date, that is a bit of a time right there friend.  Wonder what/who kept him from going out on one...

Teaser Three

“Valkyrie code states until a goddess reaches the rank of captain, she is not to engage in a physical relationship. Correct?”

“Correct.” Brynhild crossed her arms. “And kissing constitutes a physical relationship. Brynn Aksel, you are hereby stripped of your duties as the war god’s second bodyguard, and commanded to return to Asgard immediately for reassignment.”

Perfekt Control page 206

Freya needs to hurry back because Brynhild is a bitter little Valkyrie and I don't like her.  Plus seriously to be stripped of your rank due to kissing is a weird rule.

Let's Discuss: Authors who are an Auto-buy

Authors who are an auto-buy, that is an author that you have typically read repeatedly. This has caused you to trust that the next book published would be right up your alley. Chances are I am going to love or strongly like their new book.  Entertaining as well as allowing me to escape from reality for a little bit.

I have a few authors from different genres on my auto-buy list:

Urban Fantasy               Fantasy               Contemporary

Ilona Andrews                       Jennifer Estep            Avery Flynn
Nalini Singh                          Jeffe Kennedy            Kasie West

Paranormal Romance                    Multiple Categories

Changelle LaVaunn                                    Jennifer L Armentrout
Alicia Montgomery                                    Jaymin Eve
Shelly Laurenston                                      Kate SeRine
                                                                           Cecy Robson

Who is on your auto-buy list?  Do you have an auto-buy list?  What puts an author there?

Waiting on Wednesday (29) The Wild Witch

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spinewhich spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

There are secrets in my magic…

In the Old Lands, nothing is as it seems.

Something lurks in the darkness…watching…waiting. I see it moving in the shadows. I hear it whisper in the wind. I sense it following our every step. I feel it on my spine like the caress of fingertips across my skin.

Is it Joseph and his army waiting to ambush us again? Or is it just the ancient chaos of this place waiting to suck us in and never let us back out? As I stand here within the darkness staring at the dancing flames, I know our time is up. We have to make our run for it. Now.

This was a rescue mission, except now we might need the saving. With Tegan still unconscious, and Tennessee lost to his fear for her, no one knows what to do. All we have is my crazy plan and it might get us all killed.

We made it to the balefire….but now, we have to make it back out alive.

Why am I waiting?

This series has been my obsession since I found it in May. I loved the first season and am grateful that it was finished before I found the series. The second season is even better than the first and Bettina and Jackson on my favorite ship right now.

Teaser One

What was wrong with her? He hated mashed potatoes. Only sociopaths hated mashed potatoes. It was a sign on top of all the other ways they were total and complete opposites that made this whole thing crazy.

Parental Guidance Kindle Location 797

Kinda with Zara on this one- only psychos hate mash potatoes. She may want to dip out of this dating a totally hot guy now before it is too late.

Teaser Two

With my mom picking my date, I was expecting someone who was type-A, a hockey fanatic, and probably could beat me in the forty-yard dash.”

“Would that have been bad?”

“No.” He looked right at her then, not at the phone’s camera lens but at her. “But it wouldn’t have been you.”

Parental Guidance Kindle Location 2162

Dang, Caleb gots some moves!  Guy kinda has a piece of my heart now too.

Teaser Three

“Why can’t you just admit that you really like him? That you finally found someone who you feel safe with? Who you aren’t going to have to worry will spring life-changing surprises on you in an effort to change the world in one fell swoop? Are you afraid it’ll just make all of this too real?”

Parental Guidance Kindle Location 2592

Sometimes your bestie has to step in and ask the hard questions.  This is Gemma doing just that.  Will Zara answer truthfully or is she lying to herself?

Review: The Fallen Witch (The Coven: Academy Magic)

Author Chandelle LaVaun
Format e-book
Print Length 317 pages
Publisher Wanderlost Publishing
Published May 19, 2019

Magic doesn’t lie. Witches do.

Our Coven Leader is dead...and they think I killed him. I didn’t. I would never have hurt him. I tried everything I could to save him.

But it’s their word against mine.

And with his blood staining my hands and caked in my hair, I don’t know how I’m going to get them to believe me...

Because the truth is far more unsettling..those shadow creatures knew exactly where and when to ambush us. Someone set us up to be slaughtered...and it wasn’t me.

The scariest part is...that Ouija Board tried to warn me...

My Opinion

****There will be spoilers in this from The Hidden Witch, consider yourself warned!****

This one picks up right where The Hidden Witch ended, which is good cause that cliffhanger about destroyed me. Bettina has been accused of murder, Timothy, one of the leaders of the Coven has fallen. She is waiting in the dungeon until the Coven comes to determine her fate. Jackson is in disbelief, and shock-his father figure has been killed with the girl that has captured his heart as the one accused of the crime. He wants to believe her, but has he been swayed by a pretty face. With only Lennox to on her side things look to be hopeless- although we should remember that hope is not lost.

The Coven shows up in a spectacular way! Tegan and Bettina’s scenes together remind me of what a best friend ship should look like. After the Bettina’s fate is decided they are off chasing answers to questions that are popping up left and right. Old friends are shown in a new light and the excitement of getting answers really does carry the book along. Only as soon as one question is answered another one pops up. The Old Lands are involved but how closely and to what extent.

Bettina is a rock star in this one. All the emotions, all the feels, all the tears, sighs and even kisses are felt. She has been put through the ringer. Accused of murdered, the most hated gal on campus, The Coven coming to her defense, her magic being on lock down, her love interested so interested that he isn’t interested. What more can a gal go through? Apparently, there is more, and boy does it hurt a lot.

Jackson grows more in this on than in the last book. He has too, his mentor is dead, his bestie is gone, and The Coven is all around. Michael is coming, apparently soon and he has to be ready. No more distractions, so he does what any guy would do and pushes Bettina away. There are going to be some folks that hate how hot/cold he runs with Bettina, I get it though. (Yes, I did sing a few lyrics of the song as I started typing.) The pressure his family has put on his is unfair, to fight/fix the wrath of an archangel and not just any archangel but Michael. The Coven wants to help him, the Crones want to help him, nothing he has done up to this point in his life has been for him but instead for his family curse instead.

While a lot happens to Bettina in the story, there is definitely a Jackson take-over about half way through. I feel like there is a reason for this, and like Tegan it is on the tip of my tongue as to why but yeah… I am hoping it becomes clearer why in the next book that is released later this month.

The last 25% of the book hit me right in the heart, tears in my eyes falling down my cheek. I felt Bettina’s anguish, her pain, her disbelief and her resolve. It broke me. Jackson’s confusion, his sorrow and distress added to my own worry. How is this going to be fixed? Can it be fixed? Grief over what was, could have been and is settled in.

Then the ending! What an ending! How are they going to get out of this?

This book was better than the first, which was already pretty epic. I am dying to know what happens next and if Michael comes sooner than we thought he would. I also want to know how King Arthur compares to Lancelot.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote If I couldn’t have my Lancelot, then why not give King Arthur a chance?

Other People

Lennox- Bettina’s roomie
Tegan- The High Priestess, Bettina’s bestie
Cooper- Tegan’s brother, The Star

The Marvel Avengers Book Tag

Sometimes it is just fun to tag a book, let folks get a snippet of what you love to read and maybe even check out a book or two that they didn't realize was out. I got this one from Sara at A Year of Reading Dangerously who found it on Perfectly Tolerable’s blog. I am a HUGE MARVEL fan and knew I had to do this tag.

Iron Man – A Book That Made You Laugh Out Loud

I do not remember the last time I have laughed so hard reading a book before, especially a shifter book. I promise you will laugh, you will have tears in your eyes from laughing, and they will fall because the book is that funny.

Captain American – A Book That Sends a Positive Message

A tragic event occurs. How these two handle it are pretty spot on with how others have handled it. One cannot help but wonder if Mrs. Armentrout is writing about the real life adventures of her friends. She is that good at bring out the human emotions in the story. My heart breaks for Nick and Stephanie. Yet, at the end there is hope. Which is seriously, all we can wish for.

Thor – A Book With a Character’s Strength You Admire

Lucy Hamilton is the human best friend to Solange Drake. Who is about to go through her transformation to become a vampire, after all she is the only female daughter to an ancient vampire dynasty. Will everything come out the way it is suppose to be or will politics get in the way? Speaking of getting in the way Lucy should not be having feelings for Nicolas Solange's older brother and Solange should not be having feelings for a hunter. Oh the angst of a teenager the politics, century old and a fight for their rights to have a normal life.

Black Widow – A Book With a Kick-Ass Female Protagonist

Celia Wird is a strong female protagonist that does what needs to be done.

Hulk – A Book That Made You Incredibly Angry

“The Game” was cruel and horrible. It was resolved in such a way that my heart broke and my eyes were watery. I know that there must have been a reason for what occurred. I just am not sure if the reason is going to be big enough in my opinion to make up for the betrayal.

Hawkeye – An Underrated Book You Think More People Should Pay Attention To

Heartstone is a fabulous re-telling of Pride and Prejudice. Alistair and Aliza are beautifully casted as the new Lizzie and Darcy. The added addition of the dragons and the threat of the Tekari, made this paranormal loving reader all too happy.

Black Panther – A Book That Showcases Another Culture

A tragic event leads Grace Wilde to run away. She runs all the way to a boarding school in South Korea.

Spider-Man – Favorite New Book of the Year

Y'all could have guessed this one since I have been talking about this series non-stop. I have read this book three times since it has come out. It is currently my newest obsession. Review will be up on Monday.

*BONUS*

Loki – A Book With a Twist Or Surprise That Tricked You

A major bomb was dropped at the end and I cannot wait to see how it resolves, if it resolves and if daddy dearest knew…
