One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

My Opinion

Layla is a hybrid- half demon and half gargoyle. This makes her unsure of her place in life- as the gargoyles do not totally accept her and the demons do not know about her. She was raised by gargoyles essentially denying her other half completely. She is even useful to them, being able to tag other demons. Roth realizes her secret and begs her to stop as it is putting her in danger.

If ever there was hotness walking among us Roth is it. Roth is a demon- a powerful demon. One who watches over Layla without her knowing. Once Layla discovers what Roth is she is supposed to report it to her family- for some reason she does not. Throughout the book Roth is on Layla’s side, protecting her from demons and gargoyles.

Layla makes it on Hell’s most wanted list because of who her demon mother was. Someone is trying to raise the Lilin from the depths of Hell. To make matters worse there are some gargoyles that grow wary of her. Layla and Roth go on a quest for a book that could be the key to her existence.

White Hot Kiss was an interesting book. I enjoyed reading Layla’s story although there were times that I wanted to shake her. Basically anytime she was whining about Zayne. Girl needs to put her big girl panties on when it comes to him. The ending was a shocker- what the heck happened to Roth? What does this mean for Layla-bug? Why is the second book coming out in October? That is so far away from now.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars
