Abby Wade has a dangerous secret.

Two months ago, she disobeyed an order, but instead of kicking her out of the Pride, Jace offered her a job. Since then, she’s been battling a completely inappropriate crush on the young, hot Alpha. But when accepting his job offer seems like the only way to keep her skeletons safely in their closet, Abby doesn’t hesitate.

Jace Hammond has a big problem.

A rogue is slaughtering humans in his territory, and he must eliminate the threat before the entire shifter species is exposed. There could not be a worse time for Abby to accept a job he only offered as a boost to her confidence. Abby is smart, beautiful, and resilient—more than enough to distract any man from the mission. Unfortunately, she may just be the worst enforcer ever to hold the title.

As they hunt the killer, Abby’s secret becomes a threat to Jace’s authority and to her own life. But the real danger is the grip she has on his twice-shy heart.

My Opinion

While reading the Shifters series by Rachel Vincent I was seriously on Team Marc’s side. I was having none of team Jace- although I did feel bad for him in the end. So I was hoping that Wildcats would give him his HEA. I was surprised to find that his maybe HEA was going to be Abby- the teen that was kidnapped in the Shifter series.

Due to the university that she is attending being in Jace’s territory, she has been transferred to his pack. The older Alpha’s are not too thrilled with the fact that Jace has two unmarried females in his territory. This pretty much makes everything he does come under constant scrutiny. It doesn’t help matters that there is a rogue (stray) in the neighborhood attacking and killing humans. One of the people attacked is Abby’s roomie and bestie, Robyn. This makes Abby supper protective of Robyn- so much so that she had decided to spend the holiday break on campus with her. The stray attacking people brings those plans to a halt and Jace comes to get Abby. As her current Alpha, she cannot disobey her. Jace does sweeten the pot by making her an enforcer, much like her fiancé-Brian. Although like the description above says, Abby stinks at the job. A little too much, which had me thinking something was up. (I was right.)

You may be wondering since Abby has a fiancé is there a love triangle. My vote is no, there is not. Abby is majorly attracted to Jace- Jace knows she is off limits so he tries to do the right thing. Brian is well- a little too-sweet, understanding, nice. Let’s be honest, the nice guys never when the gal.

Abby is a little too self-observed? Converned only with her own problems? Selfish? You can probably tell now that I compared her a lot to Faythe and found her wanting. It was hard not to compare her to Faythe since that was the last gal we know that Jace was with. Jace was himself- his hot over the top self. He challenges, he protects, he fights for Abby. The real question is does she deserve him? My answer is no, but hey- what do I know?

Lion’s Share is a good spin-off to a great series, Shifters. Are there questions to still be answered? Yes, but since this is supposed to be a new series I am sure that we will get answers. Do previous characters show up? Yes, and they rock the pages when they do. Minx, Faythe, Marc oh my! Their presence alone is enough to make you want to read this.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

  1. I've always wanted to read the original series but never have. This one feels like it may fall flat a bit. I do love shifters though.
