Fandom Friday (3) Urban Fantasy

Hey y’all, thanks so much for stopping by my FF!

Fandom Friday is a weekly meme that highlights, various fandoms. Typically those that I am definitely a part of, sometimes those that I am not a part of but do feel strongly should have a fandom surrounding them.

Taken from Goodreads:

Urban fantasy is a subset of contemporary fantasy, consisting of novels and stories with supernatural and/or magical elements set in contemporary, real-world,urban settings--as opposed to 'traditional' fantasy set in imaginary locations.

Many urban fantasy novels are told via a first-person narrative, and feature supernatural beings such as vampires, shapeshifters, fairies, witches, sorcerers, and demons. Urban fantasy stories tend to have a high amount of suspense and action, and sometimes include mystery, romance, humor and/or horror in the plotline.

Why I am a fan?

Urban Fansty books almost always come in a series, which means the story does not end too soon.  There is almost always a strong female character, one who does not depend on a man to get her out of tough situations. The hero gives the heroines the support they need when they need it but do not try to take over. The world building is out of this world, sometime and sometimes it is our world. Regardless, it is detailed, strong and part of the plot. I like that it is first person point of view that allows us to see into the characters real life issues. Should I go save the city or to my job which allows me to eat? Most of all it combines romance with the paranormal.  The romance is often a slow burn though so it makes it more believable.

Here are a few of my favorite series (both traditionally published and self-published as well as a hybrid)

Weird Girl

Kate Daniels

Hidden Legacy

Supernatural Prison
