Review: The Fiery Heart

Author: Richelle Mead
Format: E-book
Print Length: 438 pages
Publisher: Razorbill
Published: November 19, 2013

Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets - and human lives.

In The Indigo Spell, Sydney was torn between the Alchemist way of life and what her heart and gut were telling her to do. And in one breathtaking moment that Richelle Mead fans will never forget, she made a decision that shocked even her. . . .

But the struggle isn't over for Sydney. As she navigates the aftermath of her life-changing decision, she still finds herself pulled in too many directions at once. Her sister Zoe has arrived, and while Sydney longs to grow closer to her, there's still so much she must keep secret. Working with Marcus has changed the way she views the Alchemists, and Sydney must tread a careful path as she harnesses her profound magical ability to undermine the way of life she was raised to defend. Consumed by passion and vengeance, Sydney struggles to keep her secret life under wraps as the threat of exposure — and re-education — looms larger than ever.

Pulses will race throughout this smoldering fourth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where no secret is safe.

My Opinion

The Fiery Heart was a fabulous edition to a great series. I loved the pacing and character development, although there were times when I kinda wished it was more action-packed. The story line that felt more centered around the mystery of blood and tattoos than actual action.

Sydney and Adrian are now a couple- which is nice but I feel that a lot of the tension that was between them has disappeared. Although I do love them as a couple- they are very lovey dovey, which surprised me a little. Especially with how serious Sydney normally is. I think with them as a couple Sydney is also a little more careless which will not do well for her in her line of work.

Syndey’s little sister is a piece of work. A jealous little brat if you will. I wanted to shake her and call her mean names. She is really selfish and conceited. She is also convening and will just evil. Can you tell I do not like her? Hopefully, something bad will happen to her, and a Moroi will have to save her. Then maybe her viewpoints will change. She is also a bit on the immature side

“ You are, Sydney. My sister! Why is everything else more important than me?”

Umm.. cause she is trying to save you- you silly immature little sister. As well as trying to save Alchemist, and Morio everywhere. Hello, she is Sydney Sage after all.

The secondary characters were pretty kick butt in this addition. Jill with her inside knowledge of Sydrian. Eddie with his ever supportive big brother role. Angeline and Trey were still trying to figure things out. Ms. Terwilliger and Bruno were a nice added touch as well. Neil was a great addition in that he helped to solve the blood mystery, although the girls fighting over him was a little too much.

The ending was OMG are you serious kinda ending. Even though, you could have guessed it a mile away. The urgency in Eddie- his retelling of what happened is what did it in for me. How much more failure can a guy take? The tears started to well in my eyes. And the only thought I had was what will happen to Hopper? I know irrational for sure but seriously that is what I thought. I cannot wait for the next book to come out. July is a long way from now, but it will be worth it. Seeing Adrian get mad and then even will be worth it.

Hopefully, Rose and Abe will be on his side and help him get Sydney back. Because let’s face it- he is better with her.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars
