Jax Flynn’s life just went from bad to worse. He was already sharing his body with a demon named Azirak, but after killing its mate… Well, shit got real. Now the demon has taken control of Jax’s body and everything he cares for is at stake, including Samantha, the girl he loves. Yeah, that’s not going to happen. It’s time Jax showed everyone what he was really made of.

My Opinion

I wanted to read this book, yet I didn’t want to read it. I loved Ruined, Embraced not so much. I enjoyed to book but I so wanted the happy in love butterfly feel that loving Ruined got me. For Embraced it wasn’t there. Hence apprehension when starting Released, unwarranted apprehension.

Released is the final book in The Eternal Balance series. It starts right were Embraced left off. Azirak is now in charge of Jax’s body (he is trapped inside) and Sam is mad as all get out. Not at Jax, but at Azirak. She also doesn’t trust him so she is sticking around like white on rice until she can find a way to get Azirak out of Jax. That is her main goal, her only goal. Heckle wants Jax and Sam to track down a stone that once belonged to Azirak, a magical stone (Brim Stone) that can through things out of balance. They have to find it before Chase, Jax evil twin, gets it.

So off Jax/Azirak go with Sam in tow to find the Brim Stone. It isn’t an easy task, as Chase will do anything to find the Brim Stone as well. Along they way they find a powerful witch, Van. Van can help them, yet Trackers (hell hounds) are after her- Azirak saves her. Turns out her sister was Azirak’s mate, yeah talk about eerie.

Sam has shown us already that she is tough, loyal and determined. Azirak, taking over the body of the man she loves has to mess with her mind. Yet, she is holding it together. She is developing plans. She is trying to save Jax. You gotta like her spunk, her drive, and her love for all things Jax.

Jax is the only human to break away from their demon. He is also the only one to live as longs as he and his brother have. He fights for control, he fights for intervention, mostly he fights for Sam. Theirs is an epic love, one of mutual respect.

On a totally unrelated topic check out the cover. It is kinds hot and kinda spooky at the same time.

Released was a fantastic conclusion to a good series. Everything I loved about Ruined was back in full force. The story had me gasping in angst, laughing in humor, and pretty much just cheering the couple on. I really hope that there is a spin-off story about Van, she rocked it pretty hard in this book. Yeah, she was new but still. If not a spin-off about Van how about one about Heckle? That would be a fabulous tale.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars
