If her love life is going down in flames, she might as well spark a revolution.

Finding out on your sixteenth birthday you’re a shape-shifting dragon is tough to swallow. Being hauled off to an elite boarding school is enough to choke on.

Since Bryn is the only crossbreed at the Institute for Excellence, all eyes are on her, but it’s a particular black dragon, Zavien, who catches her attention.

Zavien is tired of the Council’s rules. Segregated clans, being told who to love, and close-minded leaders make freedom of choice almost impossible. The new girl with the striped hair is a breath of fresh air, and with Bryn’s help, they may be able to change the rules.

At the Institute, old grudges, new crushes, and death threats are all part of a normal day for Bryn. She’ll need to learn to control her dragon powers if she wants to make it through her first year at school. But even focusing on staying alive is difficult when you’re falling for someone you can't have.

My Opinion

Bryn’s parents have chosen to raise her unaware of her heritage. They have chosen to raise her in the human world. This would not be a bad thing except you see Bryn is a dragon. Not just any dragon- a mixed breed dragon, as in a forbidden dragon. When she is sixteen her dragon powers manifest and she has to be sent to the Institute of Excellence- where she can learn to control her dragon impulses. This is also where she learns about the draconic rules of the dragon society.

You see in the dragon world there are four clans: Red, Blue, Black and Orange. The clans can only marry and mate within each sector. Bryn’s parents break the rules. This causes Bryn a lot of heartache at her knew boarding school. Very little people of accepting of her, some even want her dead.

Bryn is okay being an outcast. She thinks the rules are ridiculous. Thankfully, she has a feisty and inquisitive nature because she is going to need it. Having been raised in the human world she questions all the rules- the purpose behind them, and the consequences of them. This will cause some of the people in the dragon world to become upset with her. Bryn isn’t afraid to rock a few boats though.

Zavien is the dragon that finds Bryn and opens her eyes to the dragon world. With all the rules though, their attraction is forbidden. He is a pureblooded dragon, she is not. While he helps her out a lot, one can’t help but wonder about his motives.

Going Down With Flames is a fun read- a great one for the beach or a rainy day. The world that Cannon creates is intriguing and beautiful. Hopefully, in the next book Bryn can get her HEA.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

  1. Been wondering about this. The part that concerns me is the the wonder you have about Zavien's motives. AND, I've become a one read to get the HEA kinda girl. Okay, I make exceptions for JLA and such but I hate waiting for my HEA. I just want to read faster to find it.

  2. Bryn sounds like a great character! I love that she is feisty, inquisitive, and doesn't accept the status quo! I wonder why the breeds aren't allowed to mix... This story sounds really interesting. Great Review Angela :)
