Review: Romancing the Bookworm

Sometimes, even the best-laid plans can unravel.

It's spring break, and Tamara Winters would rather stay on campus and read romance novels than flaunt her size-fourteen body on a beach. But her best friend, Ronni, has other ideas. Against her wishes, Tamara is whisked away to picturesque Maverick Bay, where she's wrangled into waiting tables with Ronni at the Shore Shack for its busy week leading to Maverick's Surf Invitational. There she meets fellow schoolmate Xavier Solomon, the Invitational's organizer and campus womanizer by reputation. From the moment Tamara sees him emerging from the waves like a hero in of one of her romance novels, all she wants to do is run away from the feelings he inspires in her.

Little does she know Xavier has been watching her for weeks now. In fact, after failed attempts at asking her out on campus, he's concocted a crazy plan: fabricating romantic situations straight out of her favorite books. Xavier quickly realizes that if Tamara gets a whiff of his designs, he might as well spell CREEPER across his forehead. Yet as they grow closer, he's convinced it's a risk worth taking. What he hasn't planned on, of course, is his drug-addicted, alcoholic stepbrother, who decides to join the fun and put a wrench in Xavier’s scheme.

Spring break is proving hotter than Tamara expected. Will her romance novels be able to compete?

My Thoughts

I received a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy by the publisher in exchange for their honest thoughts/review of the book.

Hilariously funny, over exaggeration of a bookworm and the life she leads. Romancing the bookworm had me giggling throughout the entire book. Maybe due to the fact that I am a bookworm but this was a light-hearted and humorous read.

Tamara turned to books as a since of comfort when her parents passed away. Sadly though, books were becoming her life. So much so that she was no longer living life herself. Just going through the motions until the next book came along. Her only friend recognized this and wanted to help, but how?

Xavier, recognizing a how special Tamara is wants to get to know her better. He makes attempts on campus but she turns him down. Thinking that he was just trying due to Ronni. Little does she know that he really wants to get to know her. She reminds him of a loved one that is no longer here. What is a guy to do but hitch up a plan? A plan that goes awry right from the beginning.

Tamara is a naive character, one who places a shield up whenever she is in public. A shield in the place of a book. The things that she says are amazingly funny- she has no mind mouth filter. Although, she is not mean about it. She truly does not see what Xavier could see in her, and is astonished by his attention. But she writes it off as a Spring Break Fling. If she only knew.

Xavier for his part has good intentions. Although, doesn’t he know that the road to hell was paved with good intentions. Everything he plans, comes out wrong. Somehow though, he was confident that it would all work out in the end.

Ronni and Hudson are great best friends to our dynamic duo. The role of the villain was given to Xavier’s stepbrother. Although, he is not as evil as you would think. More misguided than anything.

If you are looking for a fast read that will entertain you, than I highly recommend Romancing the Bookworm.

My Rating 4 stars out of 5 stars
