My Opinion

A novel about Kate’s bestie Andrea- sign me up! In the previous Kate Daniel novels Raphael and Andrea have been flirting with each other, they started seeing each other. Then Andrea just… well she disappears. Raphael has no clue where she is or if she is okay. Then she reappears, the same yet different. She has been kicked out of the Knights of Merciful Aid, for her heritage. She doesn’t trust Clan Bouda due to her childhood, she is a beastkin and was bullied pretty bad by her mother’s Clan Bouda. Raphael is the male alpha of the clan in Atlanta (two different clans). It would make since than that once her family drops her (that is how she say the Knights of Merciful Aid) she is not going to get close to another group of people. Distant, he is hurt- she is hurting. Will they ever find their way back to each other? Or will they move on?

The story begins with Raphael’s company find a safe- guarding the safe and the guards meeting with an untimely death. Who gets hired to solve the murders? Andrea of course. Things between them are not good- not good at all. Both parties hurt the other in this book, so much so that you wanted to shake them each. Yet, their love for each other always shined.

The action was great and plentiful. Egyptian gods, shapeshifting snake people and of course lovely relics (staff, horn) keep the story moving, fast and furious. There are issues that Andrea could solve on her own, so of course we get to see Aunt B, Jim and the gang. The teenagers play a larger role in this one that the previous one- makes since as they are growing up.

Overall, Gunmetal Magic answered a lot of questions and paved the way for the next book in the Kate Daniels series. Andrea and Raphael’s tale gets told and this is one happy reader.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

  1. But maybe fell a little flat? When a book just answers questions and paves the way for the next book, I'm thinking it's not as good as it could have been.
