Review: Ocean Light (Psy-Changeling Trinity #2)

Author Nalini Singh
Format e-book
Print Length 403 pages

New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh dives beneath the surface of her Psy-Changeling world into a story of passionate devotion and selfless love...

Security specialist Bowen Knight has come back from the dead. But there's a ticking time bomb in his head: a chip implanted to block telepathic interference that could fail at any moment--taking his brain along with it. With no time to waste, he should be back on land helping the Human Alliance. Instead, he's at the bottom of the ocean, consumed with an enigmatic changeling...

Kaia Luna may have traded in science for being a chef, but she won't hide the facts of Bo's condition from him or herself. She's suffered too much loss in her life to fall prey to the dangerous charm of a human who is a dead man walking. And she carries a devastating secret Bo could never imagine...

But when Kaia is taken by those who mean her deadly harm, all bets are off. Bo will do anything to get her back--even if it means striking a devil's bargain and giving up his mind to the enemy...

My Opinion

Ocean Light picks up where Silver Silence ends (spoiler alert here) with everyone but a select few believing that Bowen Knight the head of the Human Alliance having died saving his sister. He isn’t dead…yet. He is however, hidden with a particular changeling family, Black Sea Clan. Their home hidden away from Psy, Changeling and humans a like. Few know how to locate it, even fewer outside of the Black Sea Clan are allowed in. When your clan’s base is an underwater deep sea station hiding it is not that hard. Bowen is there but for how long?

Some people would do anything to prevent others from taking over their brains, even say put an experimental chip in their brain that prevents the Psy from invading. That is what Bowen Knight did, after all he is the head of the Human Alliance. As the head, he has a responsibility to protect his people-a responsibility he takes serious. So before he can offer this to the others in his organization he lets them experiment on him first. The chip works, but it is unstable with a horrible side effect- death.

Members of the Black Sea Clan are missing, since the clan is made up of all the underground changeling who live in the Ocean it isn’t something that is unusual. However, it is becoming more and more noticeable. Something is wrong with Kaia’s home, with those that she loves. She doesn’t know what but does feel that Bo may be involved. Kaia was deeply affected by her parents’ deaths and so she feels pain of the missing more than most. Her changeling form is pretty unique as well and sought after by poachers.

These two weren’t a passionate take over kinda love. Yes, the mating bond was there and they both felt it. Due to their past though they were both hesitant to act on the mating bond. It didn’t help things that Bo was dying. Their romance was a fun, cute lighthearted story though (even with the intensity of the ticking time clock and the missing clan members). These two just fit together. Who knew that Bo could be so romantic? Who know that Kaia wanted to be romanced?

Ocean Light was a great addition to this spin off and I cannot see how anyone could pass on it. The Black Sea Territory opened up a whole new world for fans of this series and helpfully it will only get larger.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars
