When seventeen-year-old Katy Swartz moved to West Virginia right before her senior year, she’d pretty much resigned herself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring, but then she spotted her hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes.
Things were looking up…until he opened his mouth.
Daemon Black is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. It’s hate at first sight, but when a stranger attacks her and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.
The hot guy next door? Well, he’s an alien.
Turns out that Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities and Katy is caught in the crosshairs. Daemon’s touch has lit her up like the Vegas Strip and the only way she’s getting out of this alive is by sticking close to him until her alien mojo fades. That is if she doesn’t kill him first.

My Thoughts

Anything that Jennifer writes is addictive and Obsidian is no exception.  I absolutely enjoyed this book.  It is one of those books that you can really get drawn into and never want to leave.
With the guilt of his brother’s death on his heart, he tries to warn Katy away from his sister, Dee.  Katy is not the type of gal that is going to back down from a fight, even if she is fighting a boy that is a card carrying member of the holy trinity of hotness club.  In the beginning, I am with Katy on the name calling- Daemon is a douchebag.  I really just did not understand the attraction, and boy is there a lot of it.  Then chapter by chapter it is becomes clearer.
Katy is the mecca of dangerous situations.  The amazing thing is that she does nothing to get into those situations.  Our shy book loving heroine needs a hero and out of the woods comes Daemon of all people, or aliens.  His protectiveness of Katy is captivating, especially since he keeps pushing her away.  Holy alien babies everywhere, I came to love the banter between these two and started wishing their relationship would take a turn for the frisky.
Unfortunately, while Daemon does save her from dangerous situations he puts her in the most dangerous of situations.  Each time he saves her he puts a tracer on her for his enemies to find. This not only puts him and her at risk, but also Dee.  Will he be enough to save them both?  Will Katy be able to keep their secret?
The ending, oh Sweet Baby Jesus, is fabulous!  Daemon making his ridiculous bet, and Katy pretty much telling him no way in heck.  I love that she does not cave and accept what he wants.  I love that he knows that it will not be easy to convince her, but most of all I love that Daemon “loves a challenge.”
**Some of the best parts of the book, are in the bonus scenes.  They are written in Daemon’s point of view.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars
