Paxon inched closer as he leaned down to me "Then why are you here?"

I shrugged, wishing I had some brilliant retort to that question. In the end, I could only say, "You
know? I have no idea."

His eyes weren't on me, but on Clayton. "If you were mine, I wouldn't waste a minute of our time together bringing you to a place like this."

Gotta hand it to Paxon, he sure does know how to use a line. He is one hot Morgon.

Waiting on Wednesday (18) Unrivaled

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!
Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Everyone wants to be someone.

Layla Harrison wants to leave her beach-bum days for digs behind a reporter’s desk. Aster Amirpour wants to scream at the next casting
director who tells her “we need ethnic but not your kind of ethnic.” Tommy Phillips dreams of buying a twelve-string guitar and using it to shred his way back into his famous absentee dad’s life.

But Madison Brooks took destiny and made it her bitch a long time ago.

She’s Hollywood’s hottest starlet, and the things she did to become the name on everyone’s lips are merely a stain on the pavement, ground beneath her Louboutin heel.

That is, until Layla, Aster, and Tommy find themselves with a VIP invite to the glamorous and gritty world of Los Angeles’s nightlife and lured into a high-stakes competition where Madison Brooks is the target. Just as their hopes begin to gleam like stars through the California smog, Madison Brooks goes missing. . . . And all of their hopes are blacked out in the haze of their lies.

Unrivaled is #1 New York Times bestselling author Alyson Noël’s first book in a thrilling suspense trilogy about how our most desperate dreams can become our darkest nightmares.

Why am I waiting?

Not really sure.  This is one of those I saw the book trailer and thought why not.

"It's probably a really bad sign that I'm in his bed, isn't it?"

Zynda tossed her hair over her shoulder to look at me without breaking her grip on my ankles. "He's clearly taken a personal interest in you."

"If that kiss was any gauge, yes." Jepp gave me a crooked smile, a shadow of her usual cheeky grin. "Seriously hot from the outside."

I don't know if I would call it a bad sign. More like wooowhoo! Dafne is in the king's bed. Clearly the ladies are not seeing things as crystal as I am.

Review: Windburn

Author Juliette Cross
Format e-book
Print Length 91 pages
Publisher Lyrical Press
Published Feb. 3, 2015

No man can win her heart—until now…

In the Gladium Province, the boundaries between humans and Morgons, the dragon-
hybrid race, continue to blur as a new generation surrenders to long-forbidden temptation…

Sorcha Linden does whatever she wants whenever she wants, and no one can stop her. Least of all a man. After all, they’re good for only one thing—warming her bed. But then she meets Lorian Nightwing, brother of Lucius. Seductive and iron-willed, he is determined to melt her emotional defenses—and warm her rebellious heart.

The beast within Lorian longs to cage Sorcha and mark her as his own. Forever. Yet the man within also longs to protect her. When a stalker starts leaving Sorcha suggestive gifts with cryptic messages bearing an ancient blood cult symbol, Lorian’s dragon side takes over. With her life at stake, Sorcha can no longer deny the love they share. But when evil tracks her into the night, will she be too late to claim it?

My Opinion

Sorcha is a young lady who is confident- about her sexuality, intelligence, pretty much about everything in her life. She has no need for a permanent man or Morgon in her life. Why risk her heart when the one you love will just leave you anyway? With the desegregation of the humans and the Morgons in full swing, her publicity firm is the first human one to pair with a Morgon company. It helps when your besties marries into the strongest of all Morgon clans. This puts her working with Lorian Nightwing. Anti-human and Anti-Morgon hate groups are popping up. One is fixated on Sorcha. Lorian is determined no one but he will have her.

Sorcha is a feisty, sassy gal. She is beautify and recognizes sometimes that people (mainly males) will assume that is all she is. She cunningly uses this to her advantage. She has no problem with confrontation instead embracing it. While others are afraid to go up against Lorian Nightwing, she has no problem putting him in his place. It upsets her that Lorian doesn’t think that she can handle the cult.

Lorian is the typical brooding alpha male. He refuses to give into Sorcha’s charms instead openingly valuing her intellect. He isn’t shy to discuss her personal activities either. He knows that isn’t taking the cult serious so he goes about insuring her safety regardless of her wishes.

Windbloom is an amusing story. At times I did want to shake Sorcha for being silly. I refrained and my kindle survived.

Review: Soulfire

Author Juliette Cross
Format e-book
Print Length 109 pages
Publisher Lyrical Press/Kensington
Published October 20,2014

In a world divided by prejudice and hatred, only love can bridge the chasm.

Tensions are rising in the Gladium Province. The boundary between humans and Morgons has begun to blur. While the human aristocracy strives to maintain distance between their daughters and the dragon-hybrid race, fate has other plans.

As the daughter of the corporate king, Jessen Cade is duty-bound to honor her arranged marriage to a man she detests. Feeling trapped by family duty and a loveless future, she longs for more, straying to the Morgon side of the city.

Lucius Nightwing is the eldest son of the powerful Morgon clan, and the greatest enemy of Jessen’s father. When a bar-room brawl thrusts Jessen into his arms, his dragon roars to the surface, craving to sate his carnal hunger in the brown-eyed beauty. The beast in Lucius recognizes her as his own, even if the man refuses to admit the truth.

My Opinion

Jessen is the only daughter to the head of Cade Enterprises. Yes, the Cade family that owns half of the human side of Gladium Province. Fresh out of college she is eager to take her place in the family business. That is until her daddy tells her that her place is to marry the son of a guy he wants to do business with. Lucius is the eldest son of the Nightwing Family. The dominate Morgon clan, owner of the majority of the Morgon property in Gladium Province. Their biggest competitor is Cade Enterprise. They meet in a Morgon nightclub, one that allows humans to enter. He defends her and keeps her safe from Aron, the guy her daddy demands she marry, the guy that make her blood turn cold. She doesn’t understand the instant attraction to Lucius, he denies it. There is no denying though that she is his mate.

Jessen is an opinionated young lady. She does however love her family, and wants to make them proud. That is until her daddy announced that she was to marry for business. Her attraction to a Morgon is forbidden, extremely taboo in her world. Yet, she knows that the discrimination against the Morgon is wrong. She also
knows that Lucius has treated her better than any full human guy ever has.

Lucius is strong, proud, and capable. He is also afraid to find his mate. He knows firsthand the consequences of them not loving fully back. This causes him to try hard not to find his mate. Instead he emerges himself into the family enterprise.

Soulfire is a tale of overcoming racism, following your heart, and facing your fears.

Book Trailer Saturday (18) The Crown's Game

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sight..

Vika Andreyeva can summon the snow and turn ash into gold. Nikolai Karimov can see through walls and conjure bridges out of thin air. They are enchanters—the only two in Russia—and with the Ottoman Empire and the Kazakhs threatening, the Tsar needs a powerful enchanter by his side.

And so he initiates the Crown’s Game, an ancient duel of magical skill—the greatest test an enchanter
will ever know. The victor becomes the Imperial Enchanter and the Tsar’s most respected adviser. The defeated is sentenced to death.

Raised on tiny Ovchinin Island her whole life, Vika is eager for the chance to show off her talent in the grand capital of Saint Petersburg. But can she kill another enchanter—even when his magic calls to her like nothing else ever has?

For Nikolai, an orphan, the Crown’s Game is the chance of a lifetime. But his deadly opponent is a force to be reckoned with—beautiful, whip smart, imaginative—and he can’t stop thinking about her.

And when Pasha, Nikolai’s best friend and heir to the throne, also starts to fall for the mysterious enchantress, Nikolai must defeat the girl they both love... or be killed himself.

As long-buried secrets emerge, threatening the future of the empire, it becomes dangerously clear... the Crown’s Game is not one to lose.

Review: Alpha: Origins

Author Ilona Andres
Format e-book
Print Length 157 pages
Publisher InterMix
Published April 19, 2016

From Ilona Andrews—#1 New York Times bestselling author of Magic Shifts and
the Kate Daniels novels—comes a stark, seductive tale of a world torn asunder by supernatural gifts and irresistible passions...

Karina Tucker is driving a van of children home from a field trip when an unplanned detour to a seemingly ordinary rest stop changes her life. There, she witnesses a world beyond humanity’s sight, of frightful powers and chaos, where she is in death’s grip... before an irresistibly dangerous male saves her—only to take her captive.

For she is a rare commodity in the shadowy realm she’s entered.

Karina soon finds herself caught in a violent civil war where those with inhuman powers strive to destroy each other without mercy. And it becomes all too clear that she must make a choice: submit and become a pawn, or take hold of her own destiny and fight for survival against impossible odds.

Alphas: Origins originally appeared in Angels of Darkness.

My Opinion

Karina and her daughter become citizens of a strange society. One tasked with the protection of all humanity. Their citizenship based off of coercion. She was a chaperon of several children in her daughter’s class. One potty break and several demons later, she is poisoned and given an option become a donor or die. Well, there is not much of a choice there. A donor means that she will be a chew toy for Lucas. Her blood counteracts the venom in his. Lucas is human and then some. As she assimilates into this new culture, she must determine who to trust and who to stay away from.

Lucas is a guy that I can like. He was given a raw deal out of life. Yet, he will do what he must to protect humanity, to follow the Mandate. He is the most feared of his kind- the strongest, the deadliest. The folks around him treat him like the plague and yet he is what keeps them alive. He tries to take care of Karina the best he can, even protecting Emily. He knows he is dangerous, even tells Karina as much. Yet, he physically needs what her body offers (not sexual) to survive. He is attracted to her but tries to keep his distance.

Karina is a whole ball of what? She is a momma and so I get the whole momma bear coming out. She will do anything to protect her daughter. She seems strong and capable, yet I don’t know. There is something I don’t like about her- not sure what it is. I did like that she sees the humanity in Lucas and all that he has suffered to help keep everyone safe.

Alpha: Origins is a dark story. It is not for the weak of heart or those that want a romantic love. There is the potential for romance I just didn’t buy into it. I do wonder where it is going so I will probably read the next one in the series.

Waiting on Wednesday (17) The Hidden Oracle

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

How do you punish an immortal?

By making him human.

After angering his father Zeus, the god Apollo is cast down from Olympus. Weak and disorientated, he lands in New York City as a regular teenage boy. Now, without his godly pow
ers, the four-thousand-year-old deity must learn to survive in the modern world until he can somehow find a way to regain Zeus's favour.

But Apollo has many enemies - gods, monsters and mortals who would love to see the former Olympian permanently destroyed. Apollo needs help, and he can think of only one place to go . . . an enclave of modern demigods known as Camp Half-Blood.

Why am I waiting?

Confession
time...I never read the Percy Jackson series. It at a time in my life where reading was not an everyday thing. I love books about demi-gods and gods though. So yeah this one looks good to me.

"They're afraid of you," she said.

"I'm the security specialist here; I have the right of judgement," he said. "I can kill anyone on base at any point without any retribution."

"You protect them, and all you get in return is fear. Why do you keep doing this?"

Lucas kept walking. "Because everyone must have a purpose. The Mandate tells me what I am doing is right and must be done and because I'm the biggest and the strongest it's my duty to put myself between my people and danger. I would do it for you."

Review: The Glittering Court

Author Richelle Mead
Format e-book
Print Length 416 pages
Publisher Razorbill
Published April 5, 2016

My Opinion

The Glittering Court was not what I expected, yet it was still enchanting.

Cedric comes to Countess of Rothford, Elizabeth’s home to take a lady’s maid, Adelaide to his father’s finishing school, The Glittering Court. There she will be taught the finer things in life with the exception of making a good marriage match in Adoria- a new frontier. Ade doesn’t go, Adelaide does or more specifically Lizzie pretending to be Adelaide.

At the Glittering Court there are many girls, Adelaide tries her best not to stand out. Then she discovers why Cedric needs the commission from her marriage. This prompts her to take all of the tests over again to score the highest scores for the awaiting gentlemen. Their plan was flawless except they didn’t count on falling in love.

Adelaide is a strong-willed opinionated young lady. Instead of embracing a planned future with a cold husband and a controlling mother in law she embraces the unknown. While the Glittering Court did not teach her anything she didn’t already know it did show the reader her character. She fights for the underdog, stands up for what she believes in and hates bullies. Her time in Adoria shows us that she follows her heart. Overall, she is a character the reader can cheer for.

Cedric, the main love interest is charming. He accepts Adelaide for who she is, helps her to escape who she was, and loves her for who she could be. He is a risk taker- one who’s is a helpless romantic. He is open-minded and defends Adelaide with all his might.

The Glittering Court is an entertaining love story. Not exactly what I was expecting yet still held my interest. I did end up more absorbed in Mira’s story than Adalaide’s. I am looking forward to the next two in the series.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars
