Matt Ellis is trying to be on his best behavior for his mother—it is Christmas, after all. But when he recognizes the beautiful woman from the elevator—the one he hasn’t been able to stop thinking about for months—his best behavior is being held by a thread. Matt’s always sacrificed for his family, and nothing is more important than their happiness, but the more time he spends around Kennedy, the more he wonders if her supposed "right match" might just be the wrong brother.

My Opinion

Kennedy has the perfect life- a thriving business, the perfect boyfriend, and some computer software that is going to change how we find love. She goes to Vegas to pitch her software to investors. While there she accidently kisses a stranger, she is caught in an elevator with. No biggie, she goes home, tells all to her perfect boyfriend- Justin who laughs it off as some crazy Vegas antics.

Six months later Justin proposes and is she to take her home to visit with his family. Turns out the stranger that she kissed is Justin’s big brother and he is mad as Hades. He thinks Kennedy is playing his little brother until he finds out that she told Justin about the kiss. Okay time to forget about it and move on….until Justin bails on staying at home due to a work emergency and Matt is tasked with showing Kennedy around.

Kennedy is a sweet gal who puts too much faith in a computer program. She is also pretty much a doormat for Justin. Hello- she should have kicked him to the curb after Vegas. Instead she pushes down the doubt and went with the flow.

Matt is an amazing guy whose family is clearly important to him. He will do anything for them even giving up his own happiness. He has been hurt before badly, and he doesn’t want to see that for his family. So he fights his feelings for Kennedy which is harder to do every time they get thrown together.

The romance is cute- Matt and Kennedy together make and adorable couple- too bad they aren’t together. For much of the book, they are fighting the attraction. The whimsical Christmas theme of the book would put anyone into the holiday spirit.

"Would you like to dance, Your Highness?" I replied, drawing on every ounce of my training and etiquette. Although I did not hold out my hand as I should have, because I wanted the upper hand. He would have to come to me.

And come he did, stepping across the space between us in one giant stride and engulfing me with the same energy and heat that he had in the garden. I swallowed hard, fighting my own urge to steep back. he was too much of everything, and I wasn't sure this dance was a good idea at all.

Then he held out his hand and I forgot all misgivings and fears.

I have a history of picking the wrong guy. Gay? Player? Momma’s boy? Check, check and check.

Now I can’t stop fantasizing about one of the customers at the coffee shop I work at between classes. It’s just a harmless crush, right? It’s not like I ever see this guy outside of the coffee shop. It’s not like I’m going to see him while attempting to get birth control at the student clinic. While wearing a paper gown. While sitting on an exam table. Because he’s the doctor. Shoot. Me.

But what if, for once, the man I’ve had the dirtiest, most scandalous fantasies about turned out to be everything but wrong?

My Opinion

Luke is a doctor who volunteers at the local university one day a week. He has a coffee habit that he can’t seem to break- really it is a Sophie habit as he goes to the coffee shop to flirt with the cute gal that makes his coffee. He doesn’t expect to see his crush on the examination table and she doesn’t expect him to walk in to do her first exam. She is there because she wants to get on birth control- her and her boyfriend are moving into that “serious” stage. He turns out to be a douchebag and Luke ends up saving Sophie.

What starts off as a one-night stand turns into a relationship super-fast, faster than the Flash even. At times I felt like Sophie was a doormat for Luke. He got to be really bossy really fast. The intimate scenes were too much for me. I thought a few times, I hope you don’t kiss your momma with that mouth. (Turns out he does- that is a whole other bag of beans).

Wrong was well the wrong book for me. I wanted to like it, I ended up skipping over several of the alone scenes as the dirty talk was just too umm eye rolling. There are those who loved it though here are two 5 star reviews.

Review: The Edge of the Blade

Jepp has been the heart of the queen s elite guard, her Hawks, since long before war split her homeland. But the ease and grace that come to her naturally in fighting leathers disappears when battles turn to politics. When a scouting party arrives from far-away Dasnaria, bearing veiled threats and subtle bluffs, Jepp is happy to let her queen puzzle them out while she samples the pleasures of their prince’s bed. 

But the cultural norms allow that a Dasnarian woman may be wife or bed-slave, never her own leader and Jepp s light use of Prince Kral has sparked a diplomatic crisis. Banished from court, she soon becomes the only envoy to Kral’s strange and dangerous country, with little to rely on but her wits, her knives and the smolder of anger and attraction that burns between her and him . . 

My Opinion

The Edge of the Blade is the second book in the spin-off series Uncharted Realms. Jepp’s character was introduced to the reader in The Twelve Kingdom series- as the best scout in Princess then Queen Ursula’s guard- the Hawks. Jepp originally went on a diplomatic trip as the body guard of Dafne, now she is the queen’s ambassador to Dasnaria. A job she is ill fitted for as she does not have a diplomatic bone in her body. 

Jepp is a fish out of water in Kral’s world. There woman or docile, cherished and protected put on display but rarely consulted. Jepp is a strong independent woman who does not know the word shy much less the phrase “you catch more bees with sugar than with vinegar.” She rubs Kral the wrong way right from the beginning. Yet there is an undeniable attraction- the same attraction that got her in this miss. 

Dasnaria is not as progressive as the Twelve Kingdoms and it will take all of Jepp’s skills a spy as well as Kral’s interference to keep her alive. The cultural differences between the two kingdoms is interesting- Jepp’s stance that the Dasnaria were in the wrong was a bit on the annoying side only in that it is how people really act in situations that are foreign to them. Her backbone, confidence and in general I got this attitude has you cheering for her and hoping that she is right.  She is very comfortable and outgoing when it comes to her needs as a woman, something that others may be uncomfortable with.  

I adored Jepp- I loved Kral. He was so alpha male that it was pretty hot to see him go all protective mode over Jepp. There is an aspect of his life that I disagree with and wish that it wasn’t so but it is handled with perceptive. Jepp deals beautifully with the situation.

The Edge of the Blade is a fantastic fantasy novel with a lot of romance. I would suggest reading the first series before starting this one but you don’t have to. I just liked having the back story.
