My feelings for David were still there but kept being overpowered by even stronger ones for Kellan. I couldn’t remember when or how those feelings had started, but they were there. He was all I could think about at the moment. His was the face I pictured before I fell asleep and then again just before I opened my eyes to wake up.

Why I fell hard for this cover?

The Gothic feel of this one had me at UNSPOKEN. The font is beautiful and I like to pretend that it shows off the battle between good and evil with the white color representing good.  The two faces on the fence facing each other kinda represent Kami and Jared to me, speaking to each other without seeing each other.  I love how the leaves at the top of the book start off black and but as they fall to the ground they turn white.  I will be totally honest here.  I read this book because of the cover- and I am sad to say that the publishing company is changing this amazing cover to something more mainstream.  Does the change of the cover change the words inside- of course not.  But part of me wonders if I would have read this one without the cover.

Born and raised in Fresno, California, Shirley has lived in such diverse places as Denver; Houston; Torrance, California; Bogota ,Colombia; and Calgary, Alberta, Canada where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Sciences at the University of Calgary. Too many secrets. Not enough time.

Nick Merrick is supposed to be the level-headed one. The peacemaker. Since it’s just him and his three hotheaded brothers against the world, that’s a survival tactic.

But now he’s got problems even his brothers can’t help him survive.

His so-called girlfriend, Quinn, is going quick as mercury from daring to crazy. Meanwhile, Quinn’s dancer friend Adam is throwing Nick off balance, forcing him to recognize a truth he’d rather shove back into the dark.

He can feel it—-the atmosphere is sizzling. Danger is on the way. But whatever happens next, Nick is starting to find out that sometimes nothing you do can keep the peace.

My Opinion

Breathless is a short look into the head and heart of Nick Merrick. What you find there is heartbreak, confusion and a whole lot of self-doubt. Which is unfortunate as Nick is the most put-together of his brothers. He is the sensible one, the one with dreams.

Kremmerer allows the reader into Nick’s private world. The one what he keeps hidden from everyone, even himself. I am not sure which is worse that he lies to himself or to his twin. I couldn't help but think that Gabriel would understand. There is not a lot of the brothers in this novella, but for some reason that fits. A lot is explained in this one night in the mind of Nick, but it leaves even more questions. Questions that I am not sure even Nick wants to answer right now.

My Rating 3 stars out of the 5 stars

My arms moved up his chest and twined around his neck like vines reaching toward the sun, my lips parting for him. For a second, he froze, and I worried that he might pull away. But then his body flexed against mine, his mouth warm and insistent. 

Suddenly, the kiss stopped being soft and turned hungry. His hands knotted into my hair, pulling me into him like he could consume me. His heart fluttered madly against my chest. Or maybe it was my heart, I couldn’t tell. All I could sense was his body next to mine, and all I could think was… yes.
