I shook my head as much as his hold on my face would allow. His grip was firm but not hard. He bent his head toward mine. When he kissed me, the dark dreariness of the tunnels disappeared in the onslaught of tingly heat that rushed through my body from head to toes. My mind emptied as physical sensation took over. I’d heard the expression “getting lost in a kiss” before, but I never knew what that meant until now.

Oh the kisses that cause you to get lost... Almost as good as the ones that cause your toes to curl.

Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for…

Review: Moonset

Author: Scott Tracey

Format: eARC
Print Length: 408
Publisher: Flux
Published: April 8, 2013

Justin Daggett, his trouble-making sister, and their three orphan-witch friends have gotten themselves kicked out of high school. Again. Now they’ve ended up in Carrow Mills, New York, the town where their parents—members of the terrorist witch organization known as Moonset—began their evil experiments with the dark arts one generation ago.

When the siblings are accused of unleashing black magic on the town, Justin fights to prove their innocence. But tracking down the true culprit leads him to a terrifying discovery about Moonset’s past . . . and its deadly future.

My Thoughts

The government takes care of five orphans known as the Moonset children- Justin, Jenna, Malcolm, Bailey and Cole. Providing for their every need and even cleaning up of their magical messes. Speaking of magical messes, Jenna- Justin’s sister- causes yet another one which makes “Congress” get involved. The “Congress” rules over the magical world that normal humans know nothing about. Although many members of “Congress” are actual government employees. Their main goal is to keep normal humans unaware, which was hard when the Moonset children were little because well, their parents coven went dark and caused a magical war. This is why the government covers up their messes and provides for all they need- they are afraid that the children will follow in their parents footsteps.

So when Jenna causes a riot at school, the Congress steps in and moves the Moonset children to another town. Ironically, they are sent to the town their parents coven started in, Carrow Mills. Strange things start to happen and soon Justin realizes that not all is being told to them. At the riot a wraith attacked them, had it not been for Quinn (a witcher, think Navy Seals of the magical world) they would have all been killed. With so many questions left unanswered, the Moonset children are going to have to trust only themselves if they want to survive.

The Moonset children, over the years developed a sort of quessa family- with Justin and Malcolm the parents. Malcolm as default, he is the oldest and Justin because he is the peacemaker. Jeanna is the trouble maker. Cole and Bailey bringing up the rear as they younger children.

Justin is the storyteller in this novel, which is surprisingly refreshing. I like how he notices things and is not afraid to question authority. I felt bad for him at times because his sister well, she kinda is a hard person to love. Keeping his coven together and protected also is a lot for him to deal with. So when a love interest pops up, Ash I was excited for him. Finally, he gets to be a teenager for a while. She is quirky and fun and well bubbly. I should have known better.

My favorite grown-up character is Quinn, cannot wait to see more of him in the next book. He totally should be hated by Moonset and me. You see his grandparents were the witchers involved in taking out Moonset’s parents. But to be honest, Quinn kinda bucks the system. He seems to understand the children more than anyone else and wants to help them. He gets anger on their behalf, which most grown-ups are too afraid of them to care about them.

My Rating 5 stars out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote “Adults lie. Adults held grudges, they held you back and treated you like garbage, and taught other people to treat you like garbage.”

Other Characters

Bailey- youngest Moonset, so sensitive and sweet
Cole- almost youngest Moonset- Perky and talkative

“Holy mother of a trash load.”

A bark of a laugh explodes from my gut.

“What?”

“Look at your arms!” She head nods towards them. “You’re not like on any sports teams and you’re totally muscular.”

I try not to look too cocky. Or too flushed either.

“Thanks, but I was talkin’ about the mother trash load.”

Her face twists in mock anger. “You’re just jealous of my lingo. Don’t make fun.”

Review: Fallen Crest High

Author: Tijan
Format: ebook
Print Length: 452
Publisher: self-published
Published: October 31, 2012

Mason and Logan Kade are two brothers who did their own thing. They were rich and expected to attend her school, Fallen Crest Academy. They chose public school and now Samantha has to live with them. The problem is that she doesn't care at all: about them, about her friends, about her cheating boyfriend, or even about her parent's divorce. But maybe that's a good thing. Maybe change is a good thing.

My Thoughts

Sammie is having a heck of a year. She walks in the week before her junior year to find her mom surrounded by boxes. They are moving out, leaving her daddy and going to leave with her momma’s boyfriend. Later that night she finds out her boyfriend of three years has been cheating on her with one of her besties while the other one knew, and covered for them. Sammie writes them all off- withdraws into herself and her running.

Oh yeah, the boyfriend- the one that her momma moved them into- has two sons Mason and Logan. At first Mason and Logan ignore her, and she does the same. She tells no one that she is living with them- because to be honest that would be inviting trouble. Girls wanted to get with them and boys wanted to either be friends with them or fight them. They weren’t worth it- too much trouble. All that mattered was running her pain away.

Without any friends Sammie becomes numb, until a girl at school starts talking to her. Becky quickly becomes Sammie friend but Sammie is reluctant to trust her. Becky’s next door neighbor, Adam admits to a crush on Sammie. She keeps telling him that nothing will happen- he doesn’t seem to understand.

Mason and Logan start to notice Sammie when her and her mother are fighting. Mason steps in and protects Sam. Once it gets out that Sammie is living with them and about to become their step-sister the vultures come out. Some who want to be her friend only to get close to the brothers. Others who want to destroy her because she is getting close to the brothers.

I like Samantha- she is going through a lot. Dealing with it, her head held high must have been difficult. Yeah, she will do a few stupid things but seriously she deserves to rebel a little. At first I thought she was a little well weak- her boyfriend had been cheating on her for two years but once it came to light- she showed how strong she really was.

The brothers: Mason and Logan. Mason is the fighter and Logan is the talker. They do not worry about hurting people’s feelings much. Although they are very protective of those that they love, their first loyalty is to each other. I like how open to Sammie they become- Logan as a sister and Mason as something more. Sam’s relationship with both of them felt natural, not forced. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next in their world. I did kinda hope that Logan would start dating Becky but atlas, that did not happen.

My Rating 4 stars out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote "People are snakes, you just have to figure out their different colors, but they're all the same.  Everybody wants something."

Other Characters

Jessica- Ex-bestfriend, currently with Sam’s ex boyfriend
Jeff- Sam’s cheating ex-boyfriend
Nate- The brothers' best friend
Becky- only gal at school that will talk to Sam, love that she is bubbly

He smiles a small smile. His lips twitch like he’s trying not to laugh. His eyes often as they study my own. “There’s very little I wouldn’t do for you.”

I take a deep breath and close my eyes, touching my fingers to his chest, imagining the bird soaring across his skin, and I ask him the one question that scares me the most.

Review: The Dead and Buried

Author: Kim Harrington
Format: Hardback
Print Length: 304 pages
Publisher: Scholastic Point
Published: Jan. 1, 2013

Jade loves the house she's just moved into with her family. She doesn't even mind being the new girl at the high school: It's a fresh start, and there's that one guy with the dreamy blue eyes. . . . But then things begin happening. Strange, otherworldly things. Jade's little brother claims to see a glimmering girl in his room. Jade's jewelry gets moved around, as if by an invisible hand. Kids at school whisper behind her back like they know something she doesn't.

Soon, Jade must face an impossible fact: that her perfect house is haunted. Haunted by a ghost who's seeking not just vengeance, but the truth. The ghost of a girl who ruled Jade's school — until her untimely death last year. It's up to Jade to put the pieces together before her own life is at stake. As Jade investigates the mystery, she discovers that her new friends in town have more than a few deep, dark secrets. But is one of them a murderer?

My Thoughts

Jade’s family (her dad, stepmom and half-brother Colby) just moved to a two vastly different from that in which she grew up. She grew up in a very rural environment. Her new school is vastly different. Her only friend is Alexa, aka Robot girl. When others find out where she lives their eyes get big and well the whispers start. What no one bothers to tell her is why.

Eventually she finds out that last year a girl from her high school died in the house that she lives in. She tries to tell her parents that the house is haunted but no one listens. Speaking of haunting- Jade is right, Kayla is haunting the house alright. If she doesn’t find out who the killer is Colby could die. This is a threat Jade cannot put to test. Her only solution- to find out who killed Kayla until it is too late.

Jade is an interesting character. I like how she takes charge and is protective of her little brother. Going from a class of 30 to a class of hundreds she adjusted surprisingly well. A little too well but that is to be expected. Her relationship with her step-mom is strained but she does not seem too upset about that. Two guys like her, but she repeatedly tells on that they are only friends.

Dovovan is the love interest in the book. I felt completely sorry for him. His last girlfriend dies the night they break up and everyone thinks he murdered her. By everyone, I mean everyone. He has no friends and keeps to himself. But he keeps trying to look out of Jade. He even helps her investigate his ex-girlfriends murder, which you know has to be hard.

Overall, a fast read that went great with a rainy day. The ghost story aspect had a few spooky points. I did not figure out who the killer was so that is a plus.

My Rating 3 stars out of 5 stars

Other Characters

Alexa- Nicknamed Robot Girl, she is the nerdy friend
Kane- jock boy who likes Jade
Faye- mean girl that actually has a heart

Slowly, he began to trace a pattern of soft kisses along my jaw and down my neck until he reached the tender hollow at the base of my throat. Instinctively, I tilted my head back. Feeling his tongue against my skin, sensations I have never felt before began to rage in the pit of my stomach.

Review: Blood Prophecy

Author: Alyxandra Harvey
Format: ebook
Print Length: 496
Publisher: Walker Childrens
Published: Jan. 8, 2013

In the thrilling conclusion of the Drake Chronicles, love and loyalties will be tested ... and proven once and for all.

Solange Drake has been officially crowned Queen of the Vampires, fulfilling the centuries old prophecy that foretold the rise to power of a daughter born to an ancient vampire line. Except Solange's thoughts and actions are no longer her own—she's been slowly being possessed by the spirit of Viola, the first daughter born into the Drake line, since her bloodchange. And instead of uniting the vampire tribes under the rule of an ancient daughter as the prophecy predicted, Viola would rather destroy them all and enslave humans in a personal vendetta for the devastation both wrought to her life centuries ago. Can Solange break her hold in time to save everyone she loves from a vampire civil war, hunter attack, and each other? Not everyone will survive the prophecy . . . perhaps not even her.

My Thoughts

I am glad Solange’s behavior change was explained in the way that it was. I even kinda felt bad for Viola- that was until she tried to kill my beloved Drakes. Solange is possessed- no one can tell except her bestie, Lucy. A possessed teenager sucks in general but when you also happen to be a vampire princess who just took the crown from your momma being possessed is well a nightmare.

Lucy is well, still Lucy- fiercely loyal, completely has her besties’ back, determined to bring Solange and Nicholas back from the dark side. I love how she will do anything for Nicholas. Even as a human entering a den of vampires to prove he is still her Nicholas. Nicholas- hotness on a stick- Drake turns his back on everyone to stick by Solange’s side. His baby sister- because he has to protect her. Even if that means pushing the person he loves, Lucy away. But Lucy won’t have it. Ultimately all is explained.

I love how the book ends coming full circle. Yes, characters die but their deaths were necessary. Some may bring tears to your eyes other will just well make you think thank goodness she killed so and so off.

I cannot believe that it is over. Blood Prophecy is an excellent ending to an engaging series. Vampires, humans, princesses and evil- seriously what more do you need in a book?

My Rating 5 stars out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote “If she could resist his pretty face and his smart mouth, she could resist a nuclear bomb during exams and still pass with honors."

Other Characters

Laim- Father Drake- he is the calm one in the family, also the diplomat. Helena- Momma Drake- a total momma bear, who will hurt/stake anyone who threatens her family.
Viola- now that is one crazy spirit
All the other siblings and loved ones are back.

After the door closed behind Faye, I looked up at Alexa, who shook her head and said, “Don’t even ask me. The mating rituals of teens are as much a mystery to be as the additive number theory.”

The Dead and Buried by Kim Harrington page 58-59

“Did you have a nightmare?” I asked.

Finally, movement. His head tilted slightly to the side. One word. “No.”

But it didn’t sound like Colby’s voice. Not at all.

“Colby?” My voice trembled.

He smiled. Slow and wide, his bright white baby teeth glistening in the murky gloom.

“No. Not Colby.”

The Dead and Buried by Kim Harrington page 127

So the first one made me LOL and the second one well to be honest it sent chills down my back.  So, what is your teaser this week?

The next thing I knew, his lips were on mine, demanding, devouring. And I was kissing him back, my lips just as hungry as his. I didn’t know what the hell had come over me, but I was like an animal, moaning and writhing as his hands romanced my back, the curve of my hips, my ribs.

Better to See You by Kate SeRine Kindle Location 1455

Oh those hungry kisses- that you just cannot get enough of.  I adored Seth.  This book will leave you begging for more!

Release Day: The Better To See You

Once upon a time, a spell went awry and Make Believe characters were cast into the ordinary world. And the results aren’t always happily ever after…

Everyone thinks fairy godmothers can do no wrong. But if not for a certain spell mis-cast by Lavender Seelie, Cinderella’s former fairy godmother, the Tales would not be stuck in the Here and Now. Fortunately for Lavender, she’s about to get a second chance at a happy ending…

The Refuge, a sanctuary for wayward Tales, seems like the perfect place for Lavender to start a new life—especially when she discovers an unexpected ally in Seth, the brooding werewolf who’s been typecast as a villain ever since his run in with Little Red Riding Hood. But when humans from nearby towns start turning up dead, their bodies mutilated with archaic Tale symbols, Lavender wonders if Seth’s deep sensuality has blinded her to the truth. And that distraction could put innocent lives in danger. Including her own…

I love this book!  My review will be a part of the book blog tour so check back later for it.  You will absolutely love Seth and Lavender.  Not to mention a few old and new characters that show up!

Review: Flat-Out Love

When I decided to do the Cupid Hop- I did not realize how hard it would be to find a book with either heart, love or sweet in the title.  Or at least find one that I had not already reviewed.  So I searched far and wide.  After a few hours I came across a self-published book with Love it.  I downloaded it for $0.99 and seat down to read it.  I was not expecting to have so many emotions- there is a scene were I cried and cried, upset about the injustices of the world.  Then I was furious at Julie for a good three chapters but ultimately it will all work out.

Flat-Out Love is a warm and witty novel of family love and dysfunction, deep heartache and raw vulnerability, with a bit of mystery and one whopping, knock-you-to-your-knees romance.

Something is seriously off in the Watkins home. And Julie Seagle, college freshman, small-town Ohio transplant, and the newest resident of this Boston house, is determined to get to the bottom of it.

When Julie's off-campus housing falls through, her mother's old college roommate, Erin Watkins, invites her to move in. The parents, Erin and Roger, are welcoming, but emotionally distant and academically driven to eccentric extremes. The middle child, Matt, is an MIT tech geek with a sweet side ... and the social skills of a spool of USB cable. The youngest, Celeste, is a frighteningly bright but freakishly fastidious 13-year-old who hauls around a life-sized cardboard cutout of her oldest brother almost everywhere she goes.

And there's that oldest brother, Finn: funny, gorgeous, smart, sensitive, almost emotionally available. Geographically? Definitely unavailable. That's because Finn is traveling the world and surfacing only for random Facebook chats, e-mails, and status updates. Before long, through late-night exchanges of disembodied text, he begins to stir something tender and silly and maybe even a little bit sexy in Julie's suddenly lonesome soul.

To Julie, the emotionally scrambled members of the Watkins family add up to something that ... well ... doesn't quite add up. Not until she forces a buried secret to the surface, eliciting a dramatic confrontation that threatens to tear the fragile Watkins family apart, does she get her answer.

Flat-Out Love comes complete with emails, Facebook status updates, and instant messages.

My Thoughts

A love story filled with heart-break. When reading Flat-Out Love, you will probably laugh a little, cry a lot but the ending will leave you in a happy place.

Julie is the typical college-bound freshmen in a strange city. Her momma’s college roomie comes to her rescue- via her son Matt. Julie lives with them for her freshman year. During this time, she notices some strange things but still she comes to love this family. She develops very strong feelings for Finn, the son she never actually met- they talk via the internet. Then she discovers the family secret, and realizes how fragile her love for them is.

There were not plot twist for me- I figured out what was happening in chapter three. This usually makes me put down the book but for some reason I kept going. I felt horrible for Matt, the entire book. I thought that Julie was being silly for having feelings for Finn, when hello a hottie from MIT was sleeping in the same house. I mean with their internet interaction I can understand it but I was still cheering Matt/Julie on the whole book. Hopefully, silently begging for them to get together. Their banter and easy relationship reminded me of all the great relationships out there. I just knew they would be perfect for each other. Matt had so much responsibility though, that I am not sure that he could have handled Julie falling for him instead of Finn.

My Rating 3 stars out of 5 stars
