Review: Chosen Thief

Author Scarlett Dawn
Format e-book
Print Length 197 pages
Publisher Escape Publishing
Published March 8, 2015

The second saga in the bestselling, groundbreaking Forever Evermore series begins with Chosen Thief, where the life of a skilled lawbreaker becomes much more than she ever wanted...

Caroline Jules knows death is imminent. She’s only 22, but as an inmate of Death Row in the most secure Mystical jail, what else could her future hold?

Caro has no idea. Her solitary, transient life is about to get flipped on its head when it is revealed that she is the new Prodigy Elemental, and she has responsibilities and ties that she can’t ever escape. Caro is attempting to run from a brutal past, but the Rulers have other plans for this thief’s future.

But the transition from a self-contained existence to life with the other Prodigies, the Kings and Queens, and even the Elders was never going to be easy, and Caro has secrets she’s loath to share. Suddenly she has friends, mentors, lovers — and they all want to know more about her than she is willing to reveal.

Will Caro ever escape the darkness of all she is, or will she fall deeper into the life that has been chosen for her?

My Opinion

This is the first book in the second saga of the Forever Evermore series. We know the story of the first four leaders: King Zeller, King Collins, Queen Cooper and Queen Ruckler. This is the story of their prodigies. Although they do pepper the pages quite often.

King Jack’s prodigy dies, in a car accident. When an unmated prodigy dies, the power goes to the next most powerful elemental in their age group. Unfortunately, that means Caro is about to become the Elemental prodigy. Where does he find her? In jail, on death row. Okay more like breaking out of death row, but still.

Caro is refreshing. Yes, she has had a hard life. Yes, she is a criminal (umm hard life). She is funny, wise, snarky and well entertaining. Her relationship with Sin is delightful. Although, I am very confused about how her love interest is. At first I thought it was Brann- one of my favorite scenes in the story involves him, King Collins and Queen Ruckler. Then Leric Damon, the One showed up. Caro and him have a past and maybe a future but I am unsure.

Speaking of Leric, I am unsure of his intentions with the current rulers. What is his end game? He is protective of Caro, yet. I don’t know something about him rubs me the wrong way. Although it could just be me wanting her to hook up with Brann.

I enjoyed Chosen Thief. It is an entertaining read. Hopefully the next book will let us know why they received their pets. Since they should be getting their crowns in the next tale.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

Review: Dying to Date

Published June 23, 2015

Vampire socialite Melissa Redgrave has the worst luck with men. Frustrated, she decides what she needs is a little help...from New York's biggest supernatural dating agency. Except that sometimes, a vampire doesn't always find her match.

Until she does. And he's delicious enough to bite.

Tarian Drake keeps his necromancy background quiet. After all, the ability to control the dead isn't exactly welcomed in the supernatural community. When he runs into the beautiful Melissa, she tempts him in a way that has never happened before. She’s his perfect match in every way.

But just as they are about to take their relationship to the next level, his family decides to make a stand—by kidnapping his new girlfriend. Now, if he ever hopes to date again, he’s going to have to get control of his family and free the girl. Oh, and stop a war.

My Opinion

We were introduced to Melissa in Love at Stake. She is a vampire in search of her mate. The only problem is no one matches up with her. That’s right! She is finally able to sign up for the dating service but no one is even coming close to matching her. A chance meeting of Tarian in the lobby though has her wanting a date with him. He is game for a date with her as well. Too bad no one knows what kinda supernatural he is.

Necromancers have been persecuted to the brink of extinction. Tarian is not about to announce on a dating service that he is on. Knowing who Melissa’s daddy is doesn’t deter him from asking her out. The attraction is instant. Yet, he refuses to give into attraction alone. He is truly after his mate.

There are some necromancers who believe that their persecution is not warranted. Some who would do anything to get back into the supernatural community. Exile is just not for them. They want the vampire council to listen so they still Melissa- after all her daddy is on the council. Tarian rescues her- and gives her up to avoid another supernatural war.

Melissa at times got on my nerves, she was more of a woow is me gal in this tale. Last book she rocked of awesomeness. While she still can take care of herself, I got annoyed with her inner dialog. When Tarian tries to do the good thing, the best for the whole world thing, she gets mad at him. When Lucian tries to protect her, she resents him.

Tarian is truly swoon worthy. He wants to protect Melissa, his sister and all necromancers. He knows what war does to the supernatural community and to the human community.

Dying to Date is a fun fast read. It will have you laughing one minute and shaking your head the next.

Review: Love At Stake

Author Victoria Davies
Format e-book
Print Length 225 pages
Publisher Entangled: Covet
Published January 27, 2014

Abbey is the lone human working for Fated Match, a company that pairs members of the supernatural community with their eternal mates.

To snag a young vampire socialite as their next client, Abbey journeys to the home of Lucian Redgrave, the oldest vampire on the East Coast. But he's not willing to allow his vampire daughter to use the agency... unless Abbey can first find his perfect match in a month.

As Abbey coaches Lucian through his dates, she can’t deny the chemistry between them. But humans are toys for vampires, and risking her heart isn't a part of the plan.

My Opinion

I read this series out of order. Having read book three first- it honestly doesn’t matter what order you read it in. Although, had I known about the other two books I would have read them first.

When Lucian a vampire elder, finds out his daughter wants to sign up with Fated Match he puts his foot down. No… daughter of mine… is going to find her mate through a dating service. Melissa calmly asks daddy, why? Lucian says that is not how we find mates. Melissa gives him the stink eye- all while Abbey looks on with amusement. Oh really? Lucian says he can prove it- Abbey has month to find his mate. If she does Melissa can sign up, if not well vampire socialite doesn’t get to sing up. Okay, that is not exactly how it goes down but pretty darn close.

Abbey works her tail of trying to find Lucian’s fated mate. Her boss is mad, he is refusing to go to a more experienced employ for his matches. This is understandable due to her having built the company from the ground up and expecting to expand. She warns Abbey that she is a novelty, for vampires as Abbey is human. With Lucian being an elder, you could expect some publicity and increased enrollment of others trying to find their match.

Abbey tries her hardest to find Lucian’s match. She knows she is not his mate as their percentage calculated in the computer is not above 75 (that is the idea range). She is realistic of how she compares to other people in this world that she fell in. Abbey for the most part is sensible about the chemistry between her and Lucian. She uses her brain and tries to do her job. She is a little bit perky mixed with a lot of spunk.

Lucian is an elder vampire, sexy as all get out and knows how to get what he wants. The problem is he can’t figure out why. Lucian has no clue why he is pursuing her. At one point you can even see him asking himself what is wrong with him. (This should have been his clue). I love his relationship with his daughter. You can see the love that is between them, as well as the honesty.

Love At Stake is a fast paced, easy read that will have you daydreaming of a dating service (that could match you with your favorite type of being- were, vamp, wizard or whatever you want) in no time at all. I recommend it for those time when you have nothing to read and a few hours on your hands.

Thankful Thanksgiving Day Post

Every year Thanksgiving comes around,  I can't help but think that this is the forgotten holiday.  For Halloween and Christmas there are hundreds of decorations in the store.  Thanksgiving barely ten. People would get up on the Friday after Thanksgiving at 3 am and go shopping.  Now, they almost don't even have time to spend the day with their family- before the holiday shopping frenzy begins. Yes, shopping is their choice.  Honestly, though it is hard for someone to pass up a $300 savings?

There are a lot of things I am thankful for- my family, our home, my job.  The doctors in our lives that keep us healthy and strong.  The love that surrounds me daily.  There are several authors that I am thankful for.

Jaymin Eve

I discovered her this summer.  I started with the  The Supernatural Prison series.  The first book being Dragon Marked.  Jessa and Braxton soon became my favorite non-couple couple.  The only question truly being when will they get together.

CC Hunter

I am so thankful she did a spin-off series with Della, one of Kylie's besties in The Shadow Falls series.  The spin-off series Shadow Falls After Dark finished up this year. Have no fear, rumor is she is writing Miranda's story next.

Kate SeRine

I am grateful that she started a romantic suspense series this year.  I loved her first series and her second series is looking to be just as enjoyable.  FBI agent Kyle Dawson was... umm yeah.. you are going to have to read the book to understand.  Let's just say he can protect me any day.

Jennifer Estep

I was kinda lost after the Mythos Academy series ended.  So when she same out with a new YA urban fantasy series Black Blade I gleefully found my way back into her grand world of imagination.

Ilona Andrews

I am thankful that I stumbled across this urban fantasy series this summer.  I read all of the released books in about three weeks.  I loved gettng lost in the disarray of Atlanta Ga.  Kate's love life was an added bonus.

Kasie West

I don't normally read young adult romance.  Yet, the blurb for The Fill In Boyfriend called to me saying "gal, you need to read this story."  I did and to be honest I couldn't remember why I leave this genre alone.  This one brought all the feels.

Chris Cannon

The Blackmail Boyfriend was a book I picked up because I love her dragon shifter series- Going Down in Flames.  This book had me giggling at least every other chapter.  Sometimes you just need to giggle.

Cecy Robson

She writes an urban fantasy series The Weird Girls. It is one of those series that captures your imagination, brings all the feels and of course breaks your heart just to mend it again.  Celia's story ended this year with A Curse Unbroken.  Have no fear though, we haven't heard the last from these sisters as Taran's tale is about to begin.

Jennifer L Armentrout

Y'all know I am a fan.  I pretty much read everything she publishes.  So yeah, she was a show-in for the thankful list.

There you have it.  The authors that I am most thankful for this year!  Did any of these make your list?  Who are your go-to authors?  Which stories are you most thankful for?

Waiting on Wednesday (46) Thief of Lies

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Gia Kearns would rather fight with boys than kiss them. That is, until Arik, a leather clad hottie in the Boston Athenaeum, suddenly disappears. While examining the book of world libraries he abandoned, Gia unwittingly speaks the key that sucks her and her
friends into a photograph and transports them into a Paris library, where Arik and his Sentinels—magical knights charged with protecting humans from the creatures traveling across the gateway books—rescue them from a demonic hound.

Jumping into some of the world's most beautiful libraries would be a dream come true for Gia, if she weren’t busy resisting her heart or dodging an exiled wizard seeking revenge on both the Mystik and human worlds. Add a French flirt obsessed with Arik and a fling with a young wizard, and Gia must choose between her heart and her head, between Arik's world and her own, before both are destroyed.

Why am I waiting?

Sometimes a book just looks good. This is one of those times. I need something new and this is right up my alley.

Review: The Alpha's Temporary Mate

Author Victoria Davies
Format e-book
Print Length ?
Publisher Entangled Publishing, LLC Covet
Published November 9, 2015

Fated Match has spent centuries pairing supernatural mates together. Witch and matchmaker, Chloe Donovan, takes pride in helping her clients find their happy endings. But when werewolf alpha and millionaire playboy Kieran Clearwater stalks into her office, she may have finally met the one man she can’t help.

Kieran has no intention of finding his mate. Love is a weakness he can't afford. But with his pack growing more concerned over his single status he, needs to assure them all is well. What better way to do so than to hire a fake girlfriend he can parade around at the annual pack retreat?

Chloe is coerced into becoming the wolf’s temporary mate, but she’s determined to keep their agreement professional. But her seductive partner in crime has other ideas, and his considerable charm makes it difficult for her to keep her eye on the prize. While these two burn hot when they’re together, behind-the-scenes politics work to rip them apart.

My Opinion

Adorable read that goes well with a cup of hot tea on a rainy autumn day!

Kieran is trying to avoid getting a mate to please the elders in his pack. Yes, he is the Alpha- they still want him to mate. A mate will calm him, thus calming the pack. Kieran is of the mentally once bitten twice shy- he was in a serious relationship for a long time. Let’s just say it did not work out. So to Fated Match he goes. Only he doesn’t want a match, he is looking for a stand in gal-friend. One who will act like his girlfriend, go to the pack retreat and then stage a break-up afterwards. Chloe says no- heck no. Kieran ignores her and goes straight to her boss. Who says no, sees the check and then pretty much forces Chloe into finding Kieran a fake mate. All of the matches that Kieran meets he rejects. Time is of the essence and so Chloe it is.

Chloe is cute. Being forced to play the part by her boss, she does what is asked of her. She has a bit of a backbone though. When Kieran gets a little too arrogant she sure does put him in his place. The chemistry between these two is off the charts. There are times that I wanted to pop Kieran on the head for being well a man. That was gleefully overlooked due to Chloe’s response to him being mean. I kinda felt bad for Kieran, his ex really did a number on him.  His pack is pressuring him- seriously what else was an Alpha suppose to do?  I like how the relationship between these two grew from attraction to an employee into something so much more. I hate that Kieran felt the need to trick his pack, yet it was understandable.

Overall, this is an enjoyable read. While a little on the predictable side, the pacing was good. I honestly have no complaints and would recommend it to anyone who has some free time on their hands.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Waiting on Wednesday (45) Of Flame and Promise

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Cursed by a spell meant to destroy them, Taran Wird and her sisters instead developed unique magical talents. With the power of fire and lightning literally at her fingertips, Taran doesn’t fear much. Demons, vamps, whatever—bring ’em on! Only one thing terrifies her: commitment.

Taran is crazy about her boyfriend, Gemini, a sexy were with the incredible ability to split into two
separate wolves. But after watching her sister go through heartbreak with the pack’s Alpha, Taran knows not to count on happily ever after—despite Gemini’s desire to claim her as his mate. Reluctantly, she agrees to meet his very traditional and conservative parents. Taran’s a badass with a mouth to match, and Gemini loves her for it. She’s just not positive these attributes will please Mom and Dad.

Unsurprisingly, every attempt by Taran to bond with Gemini’s folks proves disastrous. But in the end, Taran finds that winning them over means unleashing her powers . . . and proving that this foul-mouthed fire-starter is a force to be reckoned with.

Why am I waiting?

Umm... at the ending of the A Curse Unbroken Taran and Gemini were not in a good place. I so want to know what happens to them.

Review: Led Astray

Author Kelley Armstrong
Format e-ARC
Print Length 384 pages
Publisher Tachyon Publications
Published September 15, 2015

Two brand new tales anchor this wide-ranging collection from one of urban fantasy's most successful authors. Here is the first time that best-selling fantasy, YA, and crime author Kelley Armstrong has had her stories collected from Otherworld and beyond. With her signature twists and turns, Armstrong gives a fresh spin on city-dwelling vampires, werewolves, and zombies, while also traveling further afield, to a post-apocalyptic fortress, a superstitious village, a supernatural brothel, and even to feudal Japan.

With tales that range from humorous to heart-stopping, these are the stories that showcase Kelley Armstrong at her versatile best.

My Opinion

Normally, when I read a collection of shorts I do a review of each of the shorts. I am not going to do that here. This book is a collection of 23 novellas by Kelley Armstrong. Some belong to the Otherworld universe, some to Cainsville, others to the Darkest Powers as well as the Age of Legends series. All but two the fans/readers have seen or should have seen. It is because of this that I will be reviewing a few of them instead of all 23 of them.

Kat (Darkest Powers)

Kat and Marguerite are on the run- from vampire hunters. Or at least that is what Kat believes until she finds out it is the Edison Group. For the first five years of her life Kat’s parents took her once a month to the Edison Group, where they conducted test. Marguerite her school librarian, offered her a way out and Kat agreed. This story is a tale of what happens when you are on the run.

The Door (standalone)

This is about a family and the sacrifices that are made when you love your family. There was a door, a door you are not supposed to go through. This door, what lies behind it? Why mustn’t we touch it? I was intrigued. I had no clue what was going on-until the end. Then it all made sense.

Gabriel’s Gargoyles (Cainsville series, Gabriel)

This is a sweet story about a neglected boy who wants so badly to give his great aunt a nice Christmas gift.

Devil May Care (Cainsville series, Patrick)

Patrick is a permanent resident of Cainsville- as a fae he struck a deal. If he helped them he got permanent residency. So they are now stuck with him. Just because he is a permanent resident of Cainsville does not mean that he lives there all the time. Patrick gets a vision of an ole fae legend- he has no clue what it has to do with him, but he needs to find out, fast. Patrick’s response to what he finds is amusing.

The collection of short stories was a perfect way to go back into the world of several series. The stand alones allowed the reader to be emerged in a world that only a talented writer could create. Overall, a good compilation of stories.

Review: Gargoyle

Author Scarlett Dawn
Format e-book
Print Length 125 pages
Publisher Self
Published November 15, 2015

A shifter made of stone. And wings.
A human bent on free love. And drunk.
Any joke could be made with those two lines.

But the town of Woodland Creek, it's no laughing matter. Hostile and magical residents guard their secrets. It's too easy to be found out.

When Isaac Stone first meets Kennedy Kirk, he's tempted to shove her off the clock tower. After all, she is gripping his private parts to lean over and see his town. One little push is all it would take...

Isaac never anticipated he'd be the one to fall.

My Opinion

This is an adult novel, there is no doubt about it. The blurb does tell you have the two main characters met. She is drunk, he is stoned- a gargoyle not drugs. She holds to his boy parts to keep from falling off of the tower. Then about a month later, a magical wave hits the town- no one is saved from the wave (it creates undeniable lust). The only way to stop the wave from affecting you is by tranquilizing yourself. Neither were expecting the magical wave to hit- and so they are caught within it’s spell. When she came home, you can believe her boyfriend knew what she was up to. Even though he knew it was caused by a spell, he still left and took the dog- Lucy with him.

Only few weeks later Kennedy and Isaac meet again. It does not seem like it is a chance meeting as wizards are involved. They have been since we have met Kennedy. Are they on the side of good, evil or neutral? Apparently Issac and Kennedy’s ex, Jonathan, have a history.

I like Kennedy- she has regret, she has remorse and she has a spine. This makes her stand-up to Isaac, the mayor of the town. Not only standing up to him, but to every other more powerful being she encounters. She doesn’t understand this supernatural world that she has stepped into- she is after all a human. The shifters and the wizards they do scare her, yet she isn’t paralyzed with fear.

Isaac grew on me. At first, I didn’t understand where he stood. I just knew that while I was suppose to hope for Jonathan to forgive Kennedy- I couldn't.  Isaac was always there.  When everything was revealed- his actions and words made more sense.

Something wicked this way comes.  Hopefully, they can protect the town.  If they fail all will be lost.  This was a very short paranormal romance, it is a novella. I can’t help but hope that Ms. Dawn will write more stories for this world.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

Book Trailer Saturday (34) : The School for Good and Evil

Some people believe you can fall in love at first sight. When it comes to books I believe those people. Book trailers are an excellent way to fall in love at first sight. I hope to feature a book trailer here every Saturday to help you fall in love at first sight...

The first kidnappings happened two hundred years before. Some years it was two boys taken, some years two girls, sometimes one of each. But if at first the choices seemed random, soon the pattern became clear. One was always beautiful and good, the child every parent wanted as their own. The other was homely and odd, an outcast from birth. An opposing pair, plucked from youth and spirited away.

This year, best friends Sophie and Agatha are about to discover where all the lost children go: the fabled School for Good & Evil, where ordinary boys and girls are trained to be fairy tale heroes and villains. As the most beautiful girl in Gavaldon, Sophie has dreamed of being kidnapped into an enchanted world her whole life. With her pink dresses, glass slippers, and devotion to good deeds, she knows she’ll earn top marks at the School for Good and graduate a storybook princess. Meanwhile Agatha, with her shapeless black frocks, wicked pet cat, and dislike of nearly everyone, seems a natural fit for the School for Evil.

But when the two girls are swept into the Endless Woods, they find their fortunes reversed—Sophie’s dumped in the School for Evil to take Uglification, Death Curses, and Henchmen Training, while Agatha finds herself in the School For Good, thrust amongst handsome princes and fair maidens for classes in Princess Etiquette and Animal Communication.. But what if the mistake is actually the first clue to discovering who Sophie and Agatha really are…?

The School for Good & Evil is an epic journey into a dazzling new world, where the only way out of a fairy tale is to live through one.

Review: Forever with You

Author Jennifer L. Armentrout
Format e-book
Print Length Sept. 29, 2015
Publisher Avon
Published September 29, 2015

In the irresistibly sexy series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout, two free spirits find their lives changed by a one-night stand…

Some things you just believe in, even if you've never experienced them. For Stephanie, that list includes love. It's out there. Somewhere. Eventually. Meanwhile she's got her job at the mixed martial arts training center and hot flings with gorgeous, temporary guys like Nick. Then a secret brings them closer, opening Steph's eyes to a future she never knew she wanted—until tragedy rips it away.

Nick's self-assured surface shields a past no one needs to know about. His mind-blowing connection with Steph changes all that. As fast as he's knocking down the walls that have kept him commitment-free, she's building them up again, determined to keep the hurt—and Nick—out. But he can't walk away. Not when she's the only one who's ever made him wish for forever . . .

My Opinion

If you want to feel all the feels read this book. It will make you laugh out loud, want to yell stop being stupid and of course ugly cry. It tackles some issues that most books do not. It goes where most authors are afraid to go. It takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster of highs and lows. In the end, you will completely satisfied.

Nick is one of my favorite guy characters in the Wait for Me series. Regardless of who the girl belongs to in the end, he is always protective of them. Calla especially, we actually find out why in this book. It makes total sense. Nick is a player, though. A different woman every month if not week. All of them with the understanding that they do not visit him at work. He doesn’t have to tell them this rule, it is what it is. Imagine his surprise with Stephanie walks into the bar. Nick is not a character that grows for me. He is what he is- pretty amazing. He does pretty much what I expected him to do based on his actions in previous books. My heart breaks for him and it is Stephanie’s fault. Yet, Katie did warn him. When will they take her predictions seriously?

Stephanie went to school with Cam and Jase. She was part of their group but on the outside- pretty much no galfriends because well, she is gorgeous. She also is not afraid to take what she needs, no strings attached and gals tend to be judgmental about this. Stephanie starts out self-assured and pretty confident. Then emotions get involved- emo
tions jacked up like they were on steroids and this erodes some of her confidence.

A tragic event occurs. How these two handle it are pretty spot on with how others have handled it. One cannot help but wonder if Mrs. Armentrout is writing about the real life adventures of her friends. She is that good at bring out the human emotions in the story. My heart breaks for Nick and Stephanie. Yet, at the end there is hope. Which is seriously, all we can wish for.

Read this series! Read it in series order or you may be confused. Read it for the emotions that it brings out in the reader. Read it for personal growth. Read it for curiosity- just read it.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Waiting on Wednesday (44) Earth: The Final Battle

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

With Brace back by her side and the melding bond again secure, Abigail should be happier than ever. Right? Well, there’s still that little rodent problem of hers. The Seventine.

Six of the evil energy sucking entities are free and with the convergence fast approaching, there is no
doubt that the final battle will be fought soon. All that stands between the Seventine and the end of the First World star-system is Abigail, the other half-Walker females and a gathering of races from across First World.

Abigail has never had so much to lose, but when everything is on the line, you fight with everything you have. She will never give up. But in the end, will she be able to save everyone?

Why am I waiting?

Have you read this series? If not run don’t walk to your computer and one click. You will not regret it. And you will not have a long time to wait for the final book. That is my only regret… the waiting for this book has been torture.

Review: Her Stand-In Boyfriend

Author Kelly Jamieson
Format E-book
Print Length 130 pages
Publisher Entangled Publishing, LLC
Published July 28, 2015

This boyfriend business is about to get a whole lot more personal…

Event planner Lexi Mannis has a busy life in Chicago—too busy to have a boyfriend. For special occasions, she has her Stand-In Boyfriend, Mac Northrop. Mac offers (almost) all the perks of a real boyfriend—furniture assembly, a date to big events, and someone to cook for. But they've never been “with benefits”…until one wickedly hot night crosses the line.

Mac's been in love with Lexi for ages. He knows he should probably end it, but dammit, he just can't. When things get deliciously down and dirty, Mac is certain that he's made the leap out of the friend zone…until Lexi decides she wants to remain friends. With benefits.

What Lexi doesn't know is that she's running out of time. And if she won't promote Mac to Real Boyfriend, she might just lose her Stand-In Boyfriend to someone else…

My Opinion

Lexi and Mac have been friends since their days in college. Mac was a poor geek back then, now he is a rich hunk. In the corporate world, there are events you have to go to- you plus one. Mac has Lexi go to these events with him, she is entertaining, fun and well he would rather be at these events with her than without her. Lexi is starting a party planning business, she has to network- she brings Mac to these things. He understands her, doesn’t expect anything and is dependable. Regardless of the situation both are always there for each other. They have only ever been friends, until that night. A glamorous bling bling dress, some adult beverages, a morning after. Mac’s excited to move their relationship forward- Lexi is scared stiff that she will lose her best friends. So she suggests friends with benefits. Mac walks away. Will Lexi realize her feelings too late?

This book is told in two people’s point of view Mac’s and Lexi’s. I love Mac’s voice. There is something about him that just- I promise you will want to crawl through your book and become his galfriend. Lexi on the other hand you will want to shake. How can someone be so blind?

This is an adult romance novel (ie… adult scenes). The chemistry between these two, when they do get together is off the charts. The best part is that the chemistry is still there even if when they are friends zoned.

Her Stand-In Boyfriend is a fast and easy read. There are moments when you want to swoon and there are moments when you want to shake some sense into Lexi. Mac you will love regardless. This would be the perfect beach or fall day read.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars.

Review: Lion’s Share

Author Rachel Vincent
Format e-book
Print Length 270 pages
Publisher Self
Published Feb. 23, 2015

Abby Wade has a dangerous secret.

Two months ago, she disobeyed an order, but instead of kicking her out of the Pride, Jace offered her a job. Since then, she’s been battling a completely inappropriate crush on the young, hot Alpha. But when accepting his job offer seems like the only way to keep her skeletons safely in their closet, Abby doesn’t hesitate.

Jace Hammond has a big problem.

A rogue is slaughtering humans in his territory, and he must eliminate the threat before the entire shifter species is exposed. There could not be a worse time for Abby to accept a job he only offered as a boost to her confidence. Abby is smart, beautiful, and resilient—more than enough to distract any man from the mission. Unfortunately, she may just be the worst enforcer ever to hold the title.

As they hunt the killer, Abby’s secret becomes a threat to Jace’s authority and to her own life. But the real danger is the grip she has on his twice-shy heart.

My Opinion

While reading the Shifters series by Rachel Vincent I was seriously on Team Marc’s side. I was having none of team Jace- although I did feel bad for him in the end. So I was hoping that Wildcats would give him his HEA. I was surprised to find that his maybe HEA was going to be Abby- the teen that was kidnapped in the Shifter series.

Due to the university that she is attending being in Jace’s territory, she has been transferred to his pack. The older Alpha’s are not too thrilled with the fact that Jace has two unmarried females in his territory. This pretty much makes everything he does come under constant scrutiny. It doesn’t help matters that there is a rogue (stray) in the neighborhood attacking and killing humans. One of the people attacked is Abby’s roomie and bestie, Robyn. This makes Abby supper protective of Robyn- so much so that she had decided to spend the holiday break on campus with her. The stray attacking people brings those plans to a halt and Jace comes to get Abby. As her current Alpha, she cannot disobey her. Jace does sweeten the pot by making her an enforcer, much like her fiancé-Brian. Although like the description above says, Abby stinks at the job. A little too much, which had me thinking something was up. (I was right.)

You may be wondering since Abby has a fiancé is there a love triangle. My vote is no, there is not. Abby is majorly attracted to Jace- Jace knows she is off limits so he tries to do the right thing. Brian is well- a little too-sweet, understanding, nice. Let’s be honest, the nice guys never when the gal.

Abby is a little too self-observed? Converned only with her own problems? Selfish? You can probably tell now that I compared her a lot to Faythe and found her wanting. It was hard not to compare her to Faythe since that was the last gal we know that Jace was with. Jace was himself- his hot over the top self. He challenges, he protects, he fights for Abby. The real question is does she deserve him? My answer is no, but hey- what do I know?

Lion’s Share is a good spin-off to a great series, Shifters. Are there questions to still be answered? Yes, but since this is supposed to be a new series I am sure that we will get answers. Do previous characters show up? Yes, and they rock the pages when they do. Minx, Faythe, Marc oh my! Their presence alone is enough to make you want to read this.

My Rating 3 out of 5 stars

Review: Unspoken Shadow Falls: After Dark #3

Author CC Hunter
Format ARC
Print Length 416 pages
Publisher St. Martin’s Press
Published Oct. 27, 2015

Despite her superhuman strength and enhanced senses, Della Tsang's life as a vampire certainly hasn't been easy. Especially since she was reborn and bound to the mysterious, infuriating, and gorgeous Chase Tallman.

But if there's one thing that's always kept Della going, it's her dream of being an elite paranormal investigator. Her newest case is the opportunity she's been waiting for, but as Della tries to solve the twenty year old murder and clear her father's name. She uncovers secrets about the vampire council. And about Chase.

Feeling betrayed by all the secrets he's kept hidden from her, Della is determined to keep him as far away from her heart as she can. But she'll need his help to solve the case that will lead them into the darkest and ugliest vampire gangs in town and into the scariest reaches of her heart.

My Opinion

There really are no words to describe how good Unspoken is. C.C. Hunter has done it again, what a fantastic way to end a series.

Unspoken picks up where Eternal left off. Della’s daddy is accused of murdering his sister. Her aunt’s ghost is stalking her looking for answers. She still hasn’t decided between Chase (yuck) or Steve (yeah). Team Steve all the way! Which is in part why both guys are not with her at the beginning of the story. This doesn’t last for long though. Chase decides he needs to win Della back so he resigns from the council and applies to the FRU. Talk about changing his tune. Steve’s training is over and he returns from Paris. Both want to be there for Della, only time will tell which way she chooses.

Through the course of the series, Della has grown immensely. While she has always had a backbone, she was rarely a risk-taker. While she was always a loyal friend, she knows that her friends will stand by her now too. She realizes that she is not alone, regardless of what she thought. She was always fiery, now though she knows how to use it to her advantage. It is rare that you see this much character development in a series. It is also one of the reasons I love reading CC Hunter books.

The storyline is well developed in this book, my only complaint is that we rarely say the terrific trio together. Della was so focused on finding the real murderer and her boy troubles that it was hard to make times for her friends. Kylie and Lucas’ relationship is touched upon, only briefly. Miranda has choices to make of her own- there is no resolution to this. (Hopefully, fingers crossed, Miranda will get her own three book spin-off series.) When the girls are together their love and concern for each other shine brightly, as does their honesty.  There is also a moment in the book where you get to see Holiday's devotion to Della- talk about hardcore.

As there are two teams out there I will not discuss the love triangle as an angle, instead I will mention each guy individually apart from Della. Chase has good intentions, except the saying goes the road to ….. Steve is as sweet as ever, maybe a little too sweet as the saying goes too much of a good thing… I do like that both guys have Della’s best interest at heart. Both guys care for Della, the question really is which one does her heart want? Only Della knows the answer to that- even if she tries to avoid it as much as possible.

The chase to find the true killer and to clear Della’s daddy’s name is thrilling. The excitement that this storyline brings to the table is different from the rest of the series. The question that weighed heavily on my mind though was “does her daddy deserve to be saved?” He treats Della horribly for the majority of both series. There will be resolution to this, however I am not sure I can forgive someone who makes their daughter believe they are a monster.

Unspoken is the final book in the Shadow Falls After Dark series. The series ends how all series end, with resolution. It also leaves an opening for a spin-off of Miranda’s story if that is where CC Hunter wants to take it.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Waiting on Wednesday (43) Oblivion JLArmentrout

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Experience the epic love story of OBSIDIAN as told by its hero, Daemon Black…

I knew the moment Katy Swartz moved in next door, there was going to be trouble. Lots of it.

And trouble’s the last thing I need, since I’m not exactly from around here. My people arrived on Earth from Lux, a planet thirteen billion light years away. Plus, if there’s one thing I know, it’s that humans can’t be trusted. We scare them. We can do things they only dream about, and honestly, we make them look weak as hell. ‘Cuz they are.

But Kat is getting to me in ways no one else has, and I can't stop myself from wanting her—or wanting to use my powers to protect her. She makes me weak, and I’m the strongest of our kind, tasked with protecting us all. So this one simple girl…she can mean the end for us.
Because the Luxen have an even bigger enemy—the Arum, and I need to stay on my game.

Falling for Katy—a human—won't just place her in danger. It could get us all killed, and that’s one thing I’ll never let happen...

Why am I waiting?

Daemon Black…Daemon Black….Seriously I have to include something else besides his name. Daemon Black’s point of view? Is that good enough for you? Cause it is good enough for me. Daemon Black is gonna rock my world!

"I don't need you to take care of me," she said.

"We all need someone, Della. That doesn't mean you aren't strong."

She started to stand up, but he knelt down. His green gaze locked on her face. "You're beautiful, smart, and funny. You care more about people than is required. You're the furthest thing from a monster that I know."

Unspoken by CC Hunter page 109

While I will never be a Team Chase gal, you got to hand it to him.  He does have a way with words.
