My Opinion

A fabulous addition to a great series! Allure has it all: murder, mystery and well of course romance.

Picking up literally where Conjure left off, Emma and Miss Delia are looking for a way to break the Beaumont Curse. They have little time and the sense of urgency is real. What better way to screw up a good hunt then throwing in a mystery guest- in the form of Miss Delia’s wayward great granddaughter. Taneea is the opposite of Emma in every way. A beautiful yet mean girl who is extremely forward with Emma’s boyfriend, Cooper. There is something not right with this gal.

Cooper starts off the same loving, adorable guy that he was in Conjure but midway through the book something happens. He stops working to getting the curse broken. Emma and Jack cannot find him for long periods of time. Something or someone is way more important than certain doom.

Emma throughout this book keeps a level head and her eyes on the goal. She will save Cooper, even if she gets heartbroken along the way. You can tell that she truly does care for him, especially after how he treats her.  Will she find a cure in time?  Is Cooper's actions really a product of his heart?  Or is there something more sinister at work?  Will she stop referring to her spirit guide as spirit guide?  (This was my only complaint about the book.) I mean seriously, she could just give her spirit guide a name something like Sally.

In the previous book, Conjure, Jack was kinda mean.  He was under a curse and well his flesh was falling off.  So you had to give him some room for an attitude.  In Allure, it is like he is a new and improved brother.  It's refreshing to see him be so nice to his sister- especially when his bestie does what he does to her.

All will be revealed, but with a wicked twist of fate Nolan leaves the reader waiting for the next installment.

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Tristan Coleman has survived the change from Clann magic user to vampire, much to Savannah Colbert's joy—and despair. By changing the Clann's golden boy and newly elected leader, even to save him from death, she has unleashed a fury of hatred and fear that they cannot escape.

As the Clann and the vampire council go to war, Tristan and Sav face a new threat—a fracturing of the all-consuming bond they share. To fight for peace, they must forge a new trust and risk everything to take down their deadliest enemy, even as they must run for their lives. Soon they will learn that some bonds are stronger than love—and some battles cannot be won without sacrifice.

Review: Along Came A Spider

Author: Kate SeRine
Format: e-ARC
Print Length:
Publisher: Kensington Books
Published: August 1, 2013

Along came a spider…

When Trish Muffet is attacked at a grisly crime scene, the last person she expects to come to her rescue is Nicky “Little Boy” Blue. But since walking away from everything two years before, Nicky’s been doling out vigilante justice as “The Spider,” taking on the vicious predators of the night in hopes it’ll lead him to his ultimate target – Vlad Dracula. And he needs Trish’s help.

Although Nicky’s renegade style goes against everything Trish stands for, she’ll do what she must to bring Dracula down. With danger stalking her, Trish knows the only person she can count on is the one man who has the power to leave her breathless. There’s no way she’s letting this spider frighten her away…

My Opinion

They say that fairytales are for children. They say that once children grow up they have to put away childish things. They obviously have never read a Kate SeRine Transplanted Tale novel. She takes an ordinary fairytale and well ages it, so that the stories that we read a child would grow with us. She has created a charming world, in the Here and Now.

Speaking of the Here and Now, Trish and Nicky crossed over at the same time. In fact, they were the first tales that either of them met in the Here and Now. But when Red came to round up all of the Tales that crossed over, Nicky bailed. His blue eyes haunting Trish ever since. Decades would come to pass, both moving on with their lives. Then something horrible happened to Nicky’s wife two years ago. Nicky all but disappears again. He is set on revenge and will stop at nothing to kill his wife’s murderer. Trish because of her job is in the way, and in danger. Can Nicky save her?

Trish is one fabulous character, who is slightly damaged due to her extra spidery sense. I am not going to tell you what she can do. But I will tell you it is freaky as all get out and I could so totally not have that power. Nor could I live with the secrets that I would need to keep if I had it. How she stays sane is beyond me.

Speaking of being damaged- poor Nicky! Nicky is one hot vigilante. Nicky really is the epitome of hotness- strong, snarky, protective and good looking. I mean seriously, where can I find another like him? Having read The Better To See You, I totally understand why he does what he does. There were times when I thought Nicky needed to be smacked on the back of the head, he was being a little too umm well Nicky like for me. At the point though, that he does get to be a little too arrogant Gideon (my favorite ninja fairy) puts him in his place.

Trish and Nicky realize very early on that someone is out to get Trish. Nicky being the protective gangster that he is, will do anything to keep her safe. Part of Trish can’t help but wonder if the protectiveness is due to his ex-wife’s death. Or maybe just maybe he does have feelings for her.

Along Came A Spider is a bewitching tale that will mesmerize the reader from start to finish. I read this book in one day, so be prepared to have your socks knocked off. It truly is a fascinating read.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote “You can’t really deny I’m irresistible, doll. Charming, funny… devilishly handsome, too. Oh, and humble.”

Other Characters

Gideon- fairy of all trades, more like a ninja fairy
Tess- Little Red Riding Hood, she rocks of awesomeness
Nate- the Grim Reaper, Tess’ boyfriend

Waiting on Wednesday (25) Death and the Girl he Loves

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

From Darynda Jones, the New York Times bestselling author of Death and the Girl Next Door and Death, Doom & Detention, comes Death and the Girl He Loves, the exciting third book in her new young adult series Darklight

The fate of the world is not something a girl wants on her shoulders, and that is especially true for Lorelei McAlister. Unfortunately for her, that is exactly where the world’s fate has decided to take up residence. Lorelei has seen firsthand the horrors that lie beneath our everyday world. And those horrors are getting her friends killed. Because of this, she agrees to leave the sanctity of her hometown and is sent to a different world entirely. A boarding school. But even here she is being watched. Someone knows what she is. What she carries inside her soul. And on top of that she’s seeing visions. This is nothing new for Lorelei. But these visions are something more: death, destruction, and the end of the world. Lorelei must face the fact that there are people who want her dead, and no matter where she goes, no matter how far she runs, the lives of her friends and family are in mortal peril. Lucky for her, her friends and family include the handsome Angel of Death, a fiercely protective half-angel, and a ragtag group of loyal supporters who aren’t afraid to get a little dirty in the name of fighting pure evil.

Did you read the last one?  You know what Lorelei does.  How can you not be waiting for this book?

While most students at Burtonwood Academy get to kill demons and goblins, fifteen-year-old Emma gets to rid the world of little annoying fairies with glittery wings and a hipster fashion sense. She was destined to be a dragon slayer, but cute and charming Curtis stole her spot. Then she sees a giant killer fairyÑand it's invisible to everyone but her! If Emma has any chance of stopping this evil fairy, she's going to need help. Unfortunately, the only person who can help is Curtis. And now, not only has he stolen her dragon-slayer spot, but maybe her heart as well! Why does she think it's going to be a fairy bad day?

Character Interview: Steve from the Shadow Falls After Dark Series

When the Shadow Falls Series ended in April, I had mixed emotions.  I adored the series and was sad to see it go.  Plus, I had a lot of unanswered questions with the secondary characters.  In the beginning, CC Hunter wrote a short story on how Della was turned into a vampire, called Turned at Dark.  This caused me to literally fall deeply in adoration for Della.  She was dealt a hand that she did not ask for, yeah it made her jaded- but it also made her our Della.
Mainly Steve and Della- would those two ever get together?  This is totally CC Hunter's fault, she did write a novella with Steve and Della called Saved at Sunrise.  I pouted for weeks, wondering what would become of one of my favorite vampires and then the most amazing thing happened.

CC Hunter announced that she was doing a spin-off series, Shadow Falls After Dark.  Not only was this a spin-off series but the main character was Della.  This fan girl jumped up and down, my kids joining me not knowing why momma was happy just knowing that I was jumping.  My husband looked over and said "let me guess one of your favorite authors is starting a new series."  This is the point where I stick my tongue out at him and just smile.  He knows me so well.

The only bad thing about this deal is that we have to wait until April of 2014 to read this book.  Man, it feels like a long wait but honestly it's only seven months.  We can handle waiting for seven months right?  Especially if say one hot shapeshifter stops by to answer some questions?

Steve thanks so much for taking the time out of your schedule to sit with me. You must be thirsty from your flight, do you want something to drink? Sweet Ice Tea?

Steve: No, I’m good, thanks.

Let's go out onto the front porch and chat a while.

You must have been nervous when Burnett asked you to take on a mission with Della. What was going on in your head?

Steve: Well, my first thought was damn she’s hot. Sorry, but I am a guy after all. He gives me a quick smile. Then, I thought about the responsibility. I know Della comes off like she can do anything, but just because she’s a vampire, it doesn’t mean she can’t get hurt. And I knew if anything did happen to her, Burnett would have my butt in a sling. But even more than that, I’d never forgive myself if she got hurt. Then, look what happened. I’d never been so scared in my life when I saw her get stabbed.

Speaking of Della, you two got close on the mission and since then she has been pulling back. Are you going to keep chasing after her or will you move on to easier fish to catch?

Steve: It’s frustrating as hell. But my dad always used to tell me anything worth having is worth working for. And I think that says it all.

Honey you got style, after giving a pint of blood to spend time with her, she refused. You carried her out into the woods in front of everyone- where did you take her and what did y'all do?

Steve: He chuckles. You should know Della well enough to know nothing happened that she didn’t want to happen. And that’s all I’m saying.

Is there anything that the readers need to know about you to get behind the Steve/Della ship?

Steve: Hmm…not sure how much I can reveal, but I know I can tell you she makes me crazy, but crazy in a good way. Plus, I think I’d really be good for her. I know she’s been hurt, but she needs to learn to open up and trust someone, and I believe I’m that someone.

Now I need to go find Della. He rises and heads toward the door, then stops and turns back toward me. She’s got herself in trouble again and I’m determined to help her out, even if she tries to kill me. He gives me a quick wink and disappears through the door.

Oh my- sexy, smart and protective.  Lucky Della!

"I love you, you see- and I fear I have no way to say or show it that isn't terrible, except coming here. I would kill everyone in the world for you, if you wanted." He seemed to notice the look that passed over her face, before rushing on. "Or not, obviously. But I thought you might rather have me read aloud - he picked up an old issue of Rolling Stone from the stack, lifting it vaguely- "and sit with you. Waiting on Wednesday (23) The Wicked Within

Hey y'all, thanks so much for stopping by my WoW!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Ancient lore leads to present danger in the final book in the dark and sexy paranormal romance trilogy about a descendent of Medusa, set in a richly reimagined New Orleans.

Her fate is not set in stone.

Having temporarily defeated Athena, Ari races to break the gorgon curse that has plagued the women in her family for centuries. Her one lead sends her on a quest for the Hands of Zeus, an ancient relic last seen in the charge of New 2’s ruling elite, the Novem. But if there is one thing that Athena desires as much as revenge, it’s the Hands of Zeus—and Athena always gets what she wants.

Before either can locate the Hands, the statue goes missing, and a trail of blood follows those who once protected the relic’s secrets. Ari knows that her city, her friends, Sebastian—her life—depend upon her finding the statue before Athena. And with rumors an ancient power is on the rise, that may not be her only concern…

I really want to know what happens to Sebastian and Ari.  The last book was awesome and I cannot wait to see how it all ends.

A story about two girls, both destined for greatness- even evil can be great. I liked that they were separated into the houses that I would have put them in and not into the houses that others would have put them in. The one who outwardly appeared evil may not be so bad. All in all a fun read!

Review: Hover

Author: Melissa West
Format: eARC
Print Length: 352
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Published: August 13, 2013

On Earth, seventeen-year-old Ari Alexander was taught to never peek, but if she hopes to survive life on her new planet, Loge, her eyes must never shut. Because Zeus will do anything to save the Ancients from their dying planet, and he has a plan.

Thousands of humans crossed over to Loge after a poisonous neurotoxin released into Earth's atmosphere, nearly killing them. They sought refuge in hopes of finding a new life, but what they became were slaves, built to wage war against their home planet. That is, unless Ari and Jackson can stop them. But on Loge, nothing is as it seems...and no one can be trusted.

My Opinion

A must read sequel that leaves you wanting even more! Melissa West creates an intriguing world that will captivate the reader to the point of forgetting real world obligations.

At the end of Gravity, Jackson has to take Ari to Loge, in order to save her life. Hover starts off right after these events. Which means that Ari is understandably weary of all people from Loge, even Jackson. Yeah, he omitted the truth a little while on Earth. He is an alien though, so one could summarize that he did it in order to protect himself and those he loves. On Loge, Ari receives a mission from her president on Earth. Will she succeed in carrying out these orders? Will Jackson help her or hinder her from doing the right thing? And what exactly does Zeus want with all the human refugees that are on Loge?

Ari was a strong character in Gravity, both in personality and sheer strength. Her self-confidence and can do attitude is evident throughout the book. In Hover, she is the same even though she is on a new planet with a whole new set of rules/laws to follow. She adapts well and is able to pretend to assimilate into this new society. Her loyalty does remain with the people of Earth though. She was hurt by Jackson’s perceived betrayal and is not quick to forgive him. She does drag on the whole wounded emotions a bit farther than necessary. I love that Ari looks at the whole picture in a lot of cases (except with the whole Jackson situation). The fact that she is willing to sacrifice herself for the greater good of her civilization is pretty amazing.

Speaking of Jackson, holy hot alien knight –in-shining armor! He recognizes that his secret has driven a wedge between them and will do what needs to be done to fix that. He tries to give Ari her space, although he knows that he has to protect her from those of his kind that will do her harm. Knowing what her mission is, he is ubber-supportive of it. The pain that his grandfather inflicts on him is horrendous, how he turns out so decent and noble is astonishing.

Ari and Jackson learn a lot about being in or even on the outskirts of a relationship in this novel. They learn to trust each other and more importantly to trust their own emotions. This is a difficult task for both of them as they are both born leaders and people of action.

The cliffhanger left me traumatized! Did she really? What happen to Jackson? Oh my goodness why does he have a gun?

My Rating 4 out of 5 stars

From the book you’re currently reading, or one you just finished, tell us what made you SWOON. What got your heart pounding, your skin tingling, and your stomach fluttering.

Shout it out on Twitter with the hashtag #YABound, post it here in the comments, or grab the adorable button above and share it on your blog! I want to know & so do the gals at YABound!

"It's like he knows I have a thing for her, so he's going to force me to throw knives at her. For an instant- no longer than an instant- I think about throwing a knife at him instead."

"My thoughts skip back to the night before, how touching her sent warmth into my hand and through the rest of me, though I was frozen with fear. I press my hands to my head, press the memory away. I can't leave now. I like her too much. There, I said. But I won't say it again."

Okay, so it was only one chapter told from Four's point of view. OH MY GOODNESS! Seriously, he is one of the ultimate book boyfriends. The fact that he is willing to push his plans aside to protect her, without her knowing is the ultimate swoon-worthy moment.  Only 46 more days until we find out what happens. Only 46 more days until we get some more of Four and Tris. Not that I am counting or anything- there is a widget for that. :)
